JPEGFASCIA.
a completely disgraceful attempt to co-opt modern fascist aesthetics (faux-evangelicalism on the interlude tracks in the second half, nostalgia for "better times", war imagery glamourization, and the mimicry of sympathy for tragedies to make people feel bad) to keep his ever-dwindling audience coming back no matter how awful and spiteful he gets. this is his ICEMAN, and he's trying to turn his audience towards the same cultish fanaticism as Drake's current ... read more

//waking up and adjusting your eyes to a new dawn//
The intro swirls with disembodied voices; people you used to know, do know or will know surrounding the soundscape. Nothing can be made out, and maybe that's on purpose. RiTchie's voice breaks through, adding context to the voices, adding a melody to what were vague suggestions at one. It feels like he's slowly building up the strength to continue, despite everything that's happened to him throughout the past ... read more
This gave me literally no impact whatsoever.
Every previous album gave me some sort of emotion, whether it be anger (Raditude), joy (Red, White, Blue, EWBAITE), boredom (Green, Make Believe, Pacific Daydream), but this literally just washed over me.
The songs are played well enough, but there's no changes to any of the songs (not even lyrics, as evident on "No Scrubs") and it just leaves me with nothing.
The Africa cover was good enough, but did we REALLY need a full album of ... read more
While I prefer the 2018 version with its more explosive parts and (some of the) slight alterations from this version, I can understand why people would fall in love with this version just as well. It's truly a testament to the emotions displayed on the record that both records can connect with its listeners even with so many changes between them.
The sound of singing a happy song to yourself to get over the fact that a family member is in the hospital.
The sound of clinging onto the last vestiges of your childhood innocence, watching it slowly drain through your fingers like water in a shower.
The sound of putting on a fake smile, trying to crack jokes and laugh at the diagnoses.
The sound of finding yourself more irritated by the ones you once loved.
The sound of your soul yearning to be free, only keeping itself inside from the fear ... read more
The cowboy walks into a convenience store. His face is covered in dust, head covered by a 10-gallon hat, and the watch on his wrist doesn't seem to be working. He makes his way to the front of the shop, turning eyes towards his figure as he passes the lonely aisles. The cashier looks up.
"You got any smokes?"
She blinks, nods, then moves to the wall to search for a pack of cigarettes. Her eyes linger over the several different brands before landing on a pack of vintage cigarettes. ... read more
This song hit number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Not the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, mind you.¹ I mean on the actual Billboard Hot 100. The same one that, at the time of this review, has Morgan Wallen's Last Night at number 1. The same one that, for 19 consecutive weeks, held Lil Nas X's Old Town Road at number 1.

This. Fucking. Song.
To explain my thoughts on this song would to give a disservice to you all, as frankly the only way to properly experience it is ... read more
An incredibly personal album from Peggy, and it shows. Sampling his friend's Wendy's order on the title track, the "I think I've coughed on every fuckin' song" adlib on Papi I Missed You (or 🥺 as it's known on Bandcamp), and the constant intervals of studio chatter that give breaks in-between repeating sections or breaks in the music. At every point, this album shows that Peggy knows what the fuck he's doing. If he considers this a "disappointment," it's the best ... read more
NOBODY THOUGHT NEIL WAS GONNA MAKE ANOTHER MASHUP ALBUM.
BUT HE DID.
AND IT'S THE BEST ALBUM OF 2020.
BEST TRACKS:
YAHOO, SPONGEROCK, AAMMOORREE, WHERE IS MY MOM, CANNIBALS, JOHNNY, CLOSERFLIES, PEE WEE INC., AIN'T
WORST TRACKS:
N/A (IF I WAS PUT AT GUNPOINT, LIMP WICKET.)
On Sight - A very good opener. Sets the egoism of the record on full display.
Black Skinhead - I KEEP IT 300 LIKE THE ROMANS (does not make this song bad. It's one of the better ones.)
I Am A God - Meh. Not that good of a track. The Jamaican guy on this track just doesn't fit the track.
New Slaves - Another meh track. Verse 2 is NOT the best verse.
Hold My Liquor - UGH. Boring.
I'm In It - Yet another boring track.
Blood on the Leaves - Good instrumental, but the autotune is SHIT. Ruins the ... read more
The Impossible Kid is most likely Aesop Rock's magnum opus.
Is it perfect? No. There are spots where I feel the album slips a bit. But as a whole, everything works together in perfect harmony, like a well-oiled machine.
The tracks (mostly) deal with Aes' self-isolation after moving away from New York. Tracks like Rabies and Lazy Eye document this excellently, with impeccable imagery. Other tracks also mention his dead friend, Camu Tao, with a notable track being Get Out Of The Car, which is a ... read more
James Blake's debut manages to be intimate yet cold and mechanical. Extremely stripped back, he talks in the simplest terms about love and the deterioration of relationships. While his bombast would increase over the years of his career, his debut still manages to be just as important as the rest of his catalogue, even with it being one of his most quiet records.
Lindisfarne should have been a single track.
Lorde's Pure Heroine - Nostalgia
Lorde's Pure Heroine is possibly the most nostalgic album I know.
This album takes me back to when I was a child living with my mother, back when I used VHS's and YouTube to watch everything. Back when I wasn't an existential cunt with social anxiety. Back when I wasn't scared about being able to experience the future. This album makes me feel like everything's going to be okay.
One of the first things I remembered about this album is my mother telling me that ... read more
