Aara - Eiger

The concept... the atmospheric parts juxtaposed by the guitar going insane... There is so much room to breathe given in the songs that mirror the mountain climbing theme. Not a black metal head myself but this album does so well in so many ways.

Favorites: Die das wilde Wetter fängt, Todesbiwak, Der Wahnsinn dort im Abgrund, Alptraum

Anderson .Paak - Ventura

So much to love here with only a few hiccups.

Seamus... that's the dog.

Tkay Maidza - Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2
94

Silky smooth songs from Tkay Maidza's second (?) EP. Not a single song misses here. Just banger after banger after banger. The only thing that's personally keeping the rating from being higher is the replay value of some of the songs here. Some songs' replay value have just waned a bit over the years (cause of how much I've listened to them), however this doesn't take away from the sheer greatness of these tracks.

Amazing album, very few flaws.

Casiopea - Mint Jams

The internet famous live album from Japanese jazz fusion band CASIOPEA will honestly never get old. The opening track tells you all you need to know about how the rest of the album goes and from that point onward, the album rarely lets up. Time Limit is the only real weak point of the album, yet even it is a great track in its own way. The bass lines, the drums, the keyboard, the guitar on top of the many solos that adorn the tracks... The wonderful production will make you forget that this is ... read more

Beck - Odelay

Beck displays a wonderful variety of sounds, even if the album is rooted in alt rock. Whether it be the grungier sounding tracks like Minus, or the country cuts on the record such as Hotwax and Lord Only Knows, Beck approaches them from a studied place and these tracks end up being executed beautifully. The only track I didn't end up really messing with was High 5 (Rock The Catskills), but its nothing that takes away from the album as a whole.

Aara - Triade II: Hemera

Awesome guitar riffs with no structure and bad mixing does not a good black metal album make. I want to hear this guitar more, why is the guitar buried under the drums which go so fast that it essentially misses the tempo of the entire song?

The album has a couple of interesting ideas but it never ends up fully exploring them, the guitar riffs are really cool but the positives really start and end there.

Songs from different albums (such as Aargesang - Aare II) don't have these issues so why ... read more

Wonderful prog rock album.

Kendrick Lamar - Section.80

Kendrick's debut album is incredibly promising, showcasing lyrical talent and successful execution of many different themes. There are very few songs on the album that don't speak to me, namely A.D.H.D, Tammy's Song and the interlude Chapters. Though even these songs have merits of their own. The other fault of the album that it has songs, which although great, don't really fit the albums themes all that much. Yet apart from these faults, this album is filled with so many ... read more

Kanonenfieber - Menschenmühle

This album really makes you FEEL like a German soldier skeleton is shovelling you into the back of a cannon.

The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation

Alternative Title: Music to be Jilted By

Jokes aside this album was honestly really great!
It definitely deserves a re-listen sometime down the road. The main gripes I have with the album is that this music is very new to me and I don't generally listen to this genre of music. My brain is too broken by DnB and Breakcore so, when it comes to rave music, I prefer songs that go way faster and are way more aggressive. The album rarely has low points and another criticism may be that the songs on ... read more

Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist - Voir Dire
80

Love this album though it does falter at some points. While I personally love Earl's delivery and his writing, I recognize that the former is an acquired taste and may initially put off new listeners. Alchemist's production on the record is also a major highlight and he brings a whole variety of instrumentals here. SRS still is my favorite album of Earl's so, for now, this album will have to take the number two spot.
