Mannheim Steamroller - Christmas
NR

if you like synths and christmas carols you will love this one. staple of the holidays in my family.

Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Christmas
NR

do I need to put this on my top albums list? it is an all timer. one of my favorite things is in "hark the herald angels sing" you can hear one kid is singing kind of off key. I feel like it's intentional. also I feel like it's Pig Pen

Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
NR

Embryonic Journey is the most underrated song on this album, all of you are too Boomer to appreciate american primitve style guitar and just want the hits

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
NR

Jazz like this is the equivalent of transcendental meditation for me. Exquisite and just plain cool.

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
NR

Stunning. Jazz that will make you believe in god.

Geese - Getting Killed
NR

Looks like indie rock is back on the menu boys! They have me with the blusey/jazzy horns in the first track (a track which was overall giving me the same melodic chaos I usually turn to Death Grips for). And the journey ended with a track that was giving Neutral Milk Hotel? New music hell yeah!

Brian Wilson - SMiLE
NR

My man is a symphonic genius who just wasn't made for these times, and this more than Pet Sounds gives us unprecedented access to his auditory cortex. The definition of the bridge between rock's authenticity and pop's mass appeal. ART

Stevie Wonder - Talking Book
NR

Soulful love songs and funky jams. Superstition rules. Stevie Wonder has such a soaring, beautiful voice on his own but it's also paired with fun, original soundscapes.

Nas - Illmatic
NR

Chill but also hard, bops and bangers with thought behind them, heavy and jazzy and so confident. So many classics on one album, but I particularly love The World is Yours

The Band - The Band
NR

like the name suggests, it's pure, simple musicianship, and sometimes nothing too fancy or outrageous is the most refreshing and original thing you can do. also so chill and so tender compared to their class rock contemporaries. it's about the music, not the personalities. it's about the band!

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - So Far
NR

Love these guys. Yes it's a compilation but it's a compilation of beauty and harmonious magic. Truly some of the the greatest vocal harmonizers of all time.

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Exodus
NR

I'm here to apologize for the fact that when I was in 8th grade it seemed like everyone in my peer group suddenly discovered Bob Marley and I was annoyed and a contrarian and said "Bob Marley sucks". Bob Marley rules actually. I suck. I suck so bad.

Dr. Dre - The Chronic
NR

Generation defining sound. Culture defining sound. Dre beginning to cement his legacy as the first true hip hop artist turned mogul, bringing the role of the producer front and center (notably, this is basically a fucking Snoop Dogg album with Dre's name on it lol that says a lot)

NR

Extremely cool, love when a song can rock so hard when it's just vocals and fairly minimalist guitar. Easy to see why Gen X lesbians were obsessed with her.

Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis
NR

Nice, tender pop-soul-blues ballads. Best when it's at its grooviest. Cool to use orchestral sounds for a soul album. She's got a lovely voice.

Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
NR

Public Enemy is awesome because they're doing both the conscious hip hop thing and they're doing party bangers. I love how they mixed in some stuff so you feel like you're at a live show. For me, there's only one skippable track (Rebel Without a Pause is just like... shrill) but everything else rules.
