Jethro Tull - Aqualung

Maybe not prog-rock, but it really is as well. I know the band hates to term, they prefer not to be labelled and want to be considered good musicians, but it is hard to avoid the fact that there is prog here. I also heard that this album was recorded in the same studio as Led Zeppelin's IV at the same time, it is interesting to hear the influences. What I love about Tull is Ian Anderson and the flute work through out the album (I first heard him playing on the Opeth album, which lead me ... read more

I have been meaning to check out this album for so long and it did not disappoint. There are so many amazing layers here and I think I need to listen to this a few more times as it is so intricate and thinking it must have been a real challenge to record something like this in 1969. I love progressive rock and metal because of the talent that has to go into this music to it. There is something about an amazing prog rock album, it has really got me hyped to listen to it again but also check out ... read more

STRUGGLER really grow on me and now Genesis Owusu is back with a new album (still haven't heard his first album). I love Australian music, so I knew I had to get to this one ASAP. I like that this was more political and so full of anger. There is so many interesting elements, I feel like there is so much Genesis has to say about the world at the moment. It almost comes across as a little punkish in his approach. I loved this album and there is so much here, I need to go back to it already. ... read more

#61 of working through the 1001 Albums list

This might be too avant-garde for my taste, it is just noise..I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not to my taste, this is very much a piece of art and I'll probably never listen to it again. I do like the sampling of keys and computer sounds but the conversations are a little unsettling at times. I think there is something unique here but it's not what I'm looking for when I listen to music, this is a once listen but ... read more

#60 of working through the 1001 Albums list

I discovered The Beta Band because of the song featured in the movie High Fidelity when he tried to sell copies of The Three EP's. The song was Dry The Rain and it is a great album, but I never went on to listen to their albums in full. Listening to this album was such a great time, I had good headphones and listened on a good device (M21). I just was enjoying all the little elements in the music, as there is a hint of electronic in this indie ... read more
