The only answer to the question “this version or the album version?” should be that both are a perfect 10/10 in their contexts
What a beautiful soundscape, the production is the main star of the show here. I had only listened to the track with Mac Miller before this (song of the year contender for me) so I knew this would be at least a solid album. It is indeed really solid. There are a few weaker spots where I’m not feeling it as much though (especially the closing track).
I can’t really add anything that hasn’t already been said, just a perfect experience.
While not as spectacular as ASTROWORLD or RODEO, UTOPIA is still a great album from Travis. So many underrated gems like MODERN JAM and TELEKINESIS, so many incredible features (including the two aforementioned tracks), but also a couple of moments I feel could have been left behind. Still a great overall experience tho.
The production and lyrical power on this is insane. TEMPTATION gets stuck in my head regularly, and I love it. That track is truly a masterpiece, but so are most of them. Especially the insanely strong start and finish.
Coming back to this was so fun, though the weather where I live does not currently fit :(
not bad, not bad, a couple of stinkers I couldn't find myself vibing with, but also some classics like Barbed Wire. spoiler alert: it only goes up from here
It seems that the general consensus is that this is a step up from their last few albums and for good reason. They shape recent life experiences into a very creative and artful album. Though it does drag for me in some areas, it's an overall joyous experience that made me think about how precious and multicultural life truly is.
Nice, short project from Brent. Though there wasn’t much change throughout, every track was solid.
Drake’s first mixtape with Young Money is certainly an important one in music history, but nothing musically all too special. It’s also very much a mixed bag of nuts with tracks like the deserving first big hit of “Best I Ever Had” or the quaint sleeper of Little Bit.” And on the other side, the sleep-inducing “Brand New” or questionable “Unstoppable,” for examples.
As someone who (like all of you) grew up with this soundtrack, I can say with certainty that Volume Alpha will forever be one of my favorite pieces of media in history. This is an hour-long nostalgia trip that gets my memories flowing through every re-listen. Minecraft was the first game I ever remember raging at. My childish self could not defend my dirt "house" from creepers for the life of me. But this soundtrack was always there. And it continues to be there for me. After all ... read more
A few years after teaming up with Anderson .Paak to deliver one of the greatest albums so far this decade, Bruno Mars delivers a solo project that is no where near as good. There’s not much to talk about since the songs mostly sound indifferent from each other. I still like Bruno’s delivery, and there were tracks I enjoyed more than others, but nothing standout unlike his past projects.
