i've been meaning to listen to this album in full one day, so i decided to do so now. i like to think of it as a late birthday gift to myself, though admittedly it is about 2 weeks late to be a proper one.
what really inspired me to listen to this right now was hearing a clip of frou-frou foxes in midsummer fires a couple days ago. that song is one of the most beautiful and emotional pieces of work i've ever had the pleasure to hear and i am so glad i got to listen to it in any ... read more
This album is quite beautiful in all aspects of it. Newsom has such a unique and gorgeous voice that suits folk music incredibly well and the lyricism is like that of acclaimed poetry, really. i do prefer wallsocket's sound in comparison to this album. however, i will say the sound of this is still very nice and it's great to see april making music she does enjoy creating. while not exactly the most tuned in onto this project yet, i hope to like it a lot more sooner because it is still a good listen, just doesn't connect to me as much as wallsocket did.
i've only listened to koi no yokan and some of their newest album before this and i will say, white pony is absolutely better than either of those projects. a lot of what this album did was way more in my taste and unlike the other albums i heard, this is less same-y than them and that's something i really appreciate
this album was good, but i wouldn't say great. a lot of what it is can be very repetitive or empty to me. however, if a song does stand out, it stands out very nicely against the others. it's okay, but the middle of the album is very samey.
