I’ve never liked Death Grips. The first time I heard them was back when I first check out On GP because of its astronomically high rating, and though I was expecting to love it, as it went on, I just really hated it. And a lot of the reason I hated that song, pours into here. The most prominent reason by a MILE is just how ass these vocals are. For a long time I said Kanye was the worst rapper of all time, he has no flow, and he sounds like shit. But honestly, MC Ride might take the cake. ... read more
Woodbine’s February Challenge! Day 2:
It’s Groundhog Day, today you have a choice in which prompt you follow:
•If you want Spring to come, pick an album with a cover that reminds you of the Spring season!
Of course I’m going to pick spring. It’s gets REALLY cold in Connecticut, so I’m hoping to get out of winter here as soon as possible. I’ve also been meaning to check out the Beatles, so why not? And yeah, I’m now definitely more likely to ... read more
Woodbine’s February Challenge! Day 1:
It’s the first day of Black History Month! Recognize the importance of the month by listening to an album that celebrates the uniqueness of Black culture throughout the ages!
This album is a real breath of fresh air. A good amount of the soul genre is too. And the two most acclaimed souls artists of this site would definitely go to Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye. And somehow, I never got to “What’s Going On”. And thankfully I ... read more
WOAH. So I took another trip to my local record store. This time though, I didn’t have a specific record in mind. I was gonna go, look around, and who knows if I would even buy anything. And for a while I wasn’t, purely because I had already bought most of the essentials previously. But than I remembered back to black on both sides, and thought I might pick up one I’ve never heard. I looked around, and eventually led myself to the HUGE Jimi Hendrix section towards the back. ... read more
This is incredible. For a band called fucking “Ween”, this is album has some very sad points. Songs like “Happy Colored Marbles”, with the title indirectly referring to anti depressants, or “I Don’t Want It”, and “If You Could Save Yourself (You’d Save Us All)”, both being about breakups, it was unexpected to say the least. But when this album does get sad, it also gets well written, which does a lot for it. It has the perfect mix of ... read more
Well. As I’m sure plenty of people know, this is my favorite album of all time. I’ve heard things like “98.12.28 男達の別”, which is heavily considered one of the best albums of all time, “To Pimp A Butterfly” which is heavily considered THE best album of all time, and many other things, but has a single one come close to this? Absolutely not. Since the day I heard it (June 2nd of 2024, to be exact), it became one of my favorite albums of all time. And ... read more
This is actually super freakin good. The vocals took some time to grow on me but I came around to them by the end. Every song in this series is about way different things, but that actually helps in its favor. When a whole album is gonna be one series of songs you would want it to have some variety, which this luckily has. The production here is absolutely immaculate, and while the rapping could be better, it still fits quite well. This is a lot more replayable than I initially thought it would ... read more
WELL, WELL, WELL!
Look what we have here. Semi-hit dream pop artist “Ethel Cain” seems to think she’s sneaky. But here’s the deal. I SEE RIGHT THROUGH HER. Now believe me, I know a coincidence when I see one, but this? THIS?! It’s been the plan from the start! As you all obviously know, I am the best music artist of all time. SOOOOO, I released my now deleted EP back in September, and of course, it was the wonderful genre of DARK AMBIENT. HEAR THAT?!?! REMEMBER ... read more
This was honestly great. It’s not exactly a music album, but more of a documentary over some very good ambient and techno instrumentals. The documentary itself is actually really good, and was super interesting. We all know what I came here for tho. “Say Hello To Allah” is one of the best Aphex Twin songs ever. It brings a level of intensity I’ve never heard in music before. Every second just has adrenaline rushing through your veins. This and “Nails In The ... read more
How have I not checked this out yet!? There are a few songs in here that are on par with Black On Both Sides (one of my favorite rap albums), so I’m just questioning what took so long, because this is amazing! Talib Kweli is an artist I’m somewhat familiar with from his wide array of features, but I’ve never heard any song directly made by him. (and Mos Def, but you get the point.) Honestly, he’s pretty damn good. He sounds kind of familiar to Q-Tip, but with a way ... read more
I’m actually quite familiar with this album. Everyone and their mother has heard things like “Stressed Out” and “Ride” but plenty of other lesser known songs on here I’m familiar with too. It was nice coming back to them, but does it hold up? Ehhh, I mean, it did pass my expectations, which is great. And honestly, I might revisit some songs here, but for the most part, it’s just alright. I will hopefully be able to do some production on ... read more
HE CAN’T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!
Edward Skeletrix is a fent addicted moron who thinks he can make music. Maybe before making music, he should make some food and add some bulk to those skinny ass legs! These aren’t beats, these are punches because they hurt to listen to! The only drugs he should be taking are steroids! Keep him away from the studio, and close to the hospital!
I’ll admit, this was pretty damn solid. The rapping was great, and the beats were pretty great. My only problem is that literally every track got repetitive. This album could definitely use some beat switches. The production itself is decent, it could just use some variety. The lyrics weren’t anything to write home about, but they were still good, especially “it was actually sad, almost like watching a fat guy do half a pushup”. In all seriousness tho, this is great. ... read more
Thanks to the goat @Winston for suggesting this!
This was surprisingly great. I normally don’t like this type of music, and from what I’ve heard from AFUT I wasn’t expecting to like this, but this pleasantly surprised me. The jazz aspects were something I wasn’t expecting at all, and they enhanced the experience HEAVILY. Though the vocals weren’t my favorite in some parts, they were still pretty solid. I like the lyrics here a good bit as well, they remind me a ... read more
One of the best rap albums I’ve discovered in a while. Every track here has so much unique things to say about it, which is something that when done right, is a recipe for a REALLY good album. Fortunately, that’s the case for this album. The production here is absolutely incredible, but surprisingly, the performances from K.R.I.T. and every feature (except for Lloyd) is probably my favorite thing about the album. Everyone truly brings their best to this album. I love the seamless ... read more
200TH REVIEW/RATING
This is absolutely insane. Swans’ live albums are easily their best pieces of work, almost always outshining their studio albums, and that’s seriously impressive. Playing 30+ minute songs live has to be a quite daunting task, yet this band has such an astronomical amount of talent, that they sound better this way. I’m very glad the band has recognized this, because they have utilized live albums since the start of their band. But god damnit, this might ... read more
What a fun album. Lupe Fiasco brings an incredible energy to every song he makes, and that fact has been true since his debut. Maintaining this level of quality in a debut is something only achieved by truly incredible artists, and it’s no surprise that Lupe is among those artists. Though he’s had his misses, his highs showcase some of the best talent in modern hip hop. A lot of his highs are on this album, with absolutely incredible tracks such as “Daydreamin’”, ... read more
It’s kinda crazy how I haven’t checked out a single one of my favorite rapper of all time’s solo projects. So why keep waiting? And what makes it even better is that my favorite rapper surpassed my expectations. I haven’t really checked out a lot of 2000’s pop rap, and I think this serves as a great introduction to the genre. Even with all the changes made within the genre, to me Q-Tip represents true hip hop. And this album is a reminder of that fact. Every song ... read more
