Well this was interesting. I don’t really listen to a lot of industrial hip hop, but seeing the great reviews from this I thought I might give it a try. It was definitely the right choice to do so, because this is some really great stuff. I wasn’t a huge fan of the vocals throughout this, but the lyrics are great, and the production more than makes up for it. The 12 minute track was very interesting, and definitely not as bad as people say it is. All of the highs on this album are ... read more
It’s such a good feeling when a rap legend makes their first good album in decades.
Snoop and Dre have teamed up in a much needed collab album, and despite their age, they come through with some heat. It’s a long overdue reminder that these guys have far from lost their ability to rap. I think snoop especially sounded absolutely phenomenal here, he’s been smoking weed for decades but his voice is still just as pristine as it was in the 90’s. Not only that, but ... read more
This is very different from MMESYF and TA13OO, but I think just like those 2 albums, it achieves exactly what it’s trying to. I’ve considered Denzel a top 5 rapper oat in terms of sheer skill for a while now, and I think with this album he still holds that place. It has Denzel’s infectious energy that can make any song fun, along with some banger trap beats and really great features. “ULTRA SHXT” was probably my favorite track here, because it feels like it has key ... read more
Might be the jazziest jazz rap I have ever heard. Like at this point it makes more sense to just call it rap jazz. Jazz and hip hop are my two favorite genres, so this appealed to me heavily. And even with that in mind, this exceeded my expectations. And my expectations were pretty high, because looking at the track ratings and genres I already knew this would be perfect for me, and it definitely is. If you couldn’t tell I really enjoyed this. “Years Gone By” is among some of ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #9: Finale?
This honestly blew me away. After the quite mediocre album that was tkol, Radiohead makes a comeback, with one of the best albums of their discography. “Daydreaming” is top 10 Radiohead songs ever. The fucking instrumental is godlike. It’s just otherworldly. The vocals are great too. Some other great tracks on here are “Burn the Witch” and “True Love Waits”, both of them also having amazing instrumentals. If this ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #8: The King of Disappointment
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍴
A thanksgiving for me is basically a normal day until around 5 PM when the dinner is ready, so I thought I’d use some time to continue with my Radiohead deep dive. So here are my thoughts on this album:
I can’t really blame them. In Rainbows was one of the best albums of all time, and the band has a history of being burnt out, so it makes sense. This album is pretty much nothing. There’s a ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #7: In Rainbows
This is unreal, plain and simple. There are so many reasons for that as well, because this is the last thing anyone could expect this band to make, after a few years of admittedly dipping in quality. This was actually the first Radiohead album I ever heard, I reviewed it a few months ago, but I didn’t really see why people thought I was as good as it is. In fact, I didn’t even give it a 100 on first listen. But it’s pretty obvious to ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #6: An Interesting, But Very Mixed Bag
This is not bad by any means. It actually has some fairly high highs, but the rest is average/ below average for this band’s standards. I can see why a band like this would eventually get harder to come up with ideas for, so just like Amnesiac, it is great for what it is. The instrumentation here was pretty interesting, the first and last tracks were amazing, but I just don’t see myself revisiting a whole lot of the ... read more
Never been a better day for a show to be postponed
Kendrick dropped. I was starting to think I wouldn’t be able to say that this year, which would’ve been a very interesting move from Kendrick considering the popularity he has gained from the Drake beef. Turns out we just needed to let him cook. It’s interesting that we didn’t get a single from “The Heart” series like we do for most Kendrick albums, but we still got the heart part 6 (not the awful fucking ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #5: An Understandable Change of Pace
This isn’t bad by any means, but it does not compare to the previous 3 albums at all. Now that sounds bad, but then you remember that there are albums that are considered classics that also don’t compare to the previous 3 either. After one of the best songs ever made, How to Disappear Completely from Kid A, LITERALLY being about feeling burnt out, this actually does really good for what it is. Especially after releasing ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #4: Kid A
I think I actually might be giving out way too many 100/100s. But it’s not like I give 100s to albums that don’t deserve it, and this album certainly deserves it. Do I even know where to begin with the amount of stuff in this album? This is only 47 minutes long but it feels like an hour and a half, in a really, really good way. For some reason they decided to shift a bit more towards electronic music, which sounds like an awful idea, but turned ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #3: OK Computer
Woah. Did I know this would be peak? Of course. Did I know it would be this peak? Barely. It’s no secret that this is highly regarded as one of the best albums of all time, but after hearing a good bit of it, I really didn’t think it would be the best album of all time or anything. To me it’s obviously not the best album of all time, but I now know why so many people think it is. It’s simply flawless.
“Subterranean ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #2: What is that mannequin doing 😳
What a drastic improvement from their debut. In just 2 years they made one of the hugest improvements from one album to another I have seen, and Pablo Honey was pretty close to being good anyways. It also the first few perfect Radiohead songs, with the pretty obvious ones being “Fake Plastic Trees” and “Street Spirit (Fade Out)”. Each track offers a hugely improved vocal performance from Thom Yorke compared ... read more
RADIOHEAD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #1: Rocky Start
This album is ok. It surprised me how drastically different it is from the stuff I have heard from these guys, being a less dreamy and magical and more of a stereotypical early 90’s rock album. So with that being the case, I knew this wasn’t going to be the greatest debut. It’s alright for what it is tho, but from what I’ve seen most of the time a debut is almost always one of the artists BEST works, so it’s surprising but ... read more
Post rock without the rock
I can’t be this bored, right? I finished my Pink Floyd deep dive, reviewed two 2024 releases, and immediately didn’t know what to listen to. I also didn’t have a lot to do this weekend, and that’s pretty evident considering I saw the insane 7 HOUR AND 20 MINUTE RUNTIME that this album has, and didn’t immediately put it off. It’s the only album I’ve listened to so far that has taken me more than a day to complete. That being ... read more
I’ve literally never even heard anything microphones and mount eerie related, so this is my introduction to Phil Elverum. My only question is has this man ever left the wilderness? This is just such a natural album. It’s certainly got that wilderness like atmosphere, and it uses it to its advantage quite often. If the rest of Phil’s stuff sounds like this, or at least similar, I have got to check more of him out.
Happy Halloween 🎃
This was likely my most anticipated album of the year. St. Chroma was an amazing teaser, so much so that I even preordered the vinyl, and I was even looking into tickets for one of his shows, all before this even came out. Now I listened to it literally less than a minute after it came out, but I haven’t reviewed it until now because I wanted to finish my Pink Floyd deep dive first. But I thought getting this out on Halloween would be pretty great anyways, so here ... read more
PINK FLOYD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #13: The End
This album was a bad idea. After the legendary band had ended with the masterpiece of a song that was “High Hopes”, 20 years later, David Gilmour decided to pull a Roger Waters and make a solo “Pink Floyd” album. With Richard Wright passing away in 2008, and Roger Waters have completely left the band after “The Final Cut”, this was likely going to be less of a Pink Floyd album than The Final Cut was. And that turned ... read more
PINK FLOYD ALBUM DEEP DIVE #12: A Pleasant Surprise
Not only did I enjoy this, but I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. “The Division Bell” is easily the best of the post-the wall albums so far, which unlike the last two albums, has no misses. A lot of the tracks on here are actually super underrated, such as “Wearing the Inside Out” and “Coming Back to Life”. But the obvious stand out here is “High Hopes”. This is what would serve as ... read more
