I guess I'm alone here, but for the life of me I can't understand the low rating of this album. I thoroughly enjoy every listen of this album.
In my spare time I like to get off roller coasters saying, "I can't Breathe!"
Not as bad as people are making it out to be, but not great either. A few listens was enjoyable enough, and then it got old.
Despite all the surrounding drama, I still think this is a solid album.
It can be quite painful to rate an album so low, especially with a band you otherwise enjoy and admire. But man, this just ain't it.
A worthy companion to Fear of a Blank Planet. You could put these two together to form one of the greatest prog albums of the century.
This is a solid progressive masterpiece, with the only thing holding it back being the final track.
How is this album not rated higher? The interplay between the off timing breakdowns, harsh vocals, and angelic melodies make this, in my mind, one of the greatest metalcore releases of the 2010's.
This is perhaps the most cohesive and consistent Deftones album. However, none of the individual tracks absolutely blow me away. Still worth listening to several times a year.
Tracks like Prince, Risk, and Beauty School always suck me back into this album. While mostly solid, there are weak moments here, particularly the last few tracks.
This album has both some strong and weak moments. Cherry Waves is injected with so much power and emotion, while Pink Cellphone sounds like an awkward middle school prank phone call. U,U,D,D,L,R,L,R,A,B,Select,Start is one of my favorite Deftones tracks of all time and draws me back to listening to this album.
It has enough standout tracks to hold the album together and make it worth coming back to, but there are some skippable tracks as well. Standout Tracks: Needles and Pins, When Girls Telephone Boys, Lucky You. Skippable Tracks: Hexagram, Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event, Moana.
Digital Bath stands out as one of the most mesmerizing tracks in their catalog. Not really an outright weak track on the album, but some of them drag at times such as Pink Maggit and Street Carp.
A solid album with no skippable tracks, except the large gap of silence on MX.
Bored, Lifter, and 7 Words are 3 redeeming tracks that make this album worth visiting every few years, but some the tracks, like Nosebleed, Fireal, and Fist are boring and easily skippable.
