True Blue | 1986 | β β β β β
Madonna's best 80s album, and some of her best singles ever are on this album. To me this, is Madonna's most iconic album. Papa Don't Preach is the perfect 80s pop song and has a great message too. Open Your Heart is a great follow up, and White Heat should have been a single too. Live to Tell, along with Frozen from Ray of Light, is Madonna's best song. Period. That song gets me in the feels every time I listen to, and its message can be ... read more

This is a very good album which showcases Madonna's range and earlier experimentation. The title track is iconic and is the best version of the song--I particularly enjoy the second half of the song. Express Yourself is also really good, but I do prefer later remixes of the song. The rest of the album is slight downgrade in quality, with Love Song being the weakest, but there still some highlights, such as Cherish, Oh Father (a good ballad) and ... read more

This is elevator music with a PLUS, and with some added flare, but does not stand out enough, especially compared to the rest of Madonna's discography--for better or for worse. This is Madonna's safest album sonically and lyrically (with the exception of Bedtime Story which was mostly written by ... read more

I am a little less biased on this album than I am with Confessions on a Dance Floor. But I am still biased and that should be taken into account. I am biased because I have loved this album since I started my second round of college when I was 18. I am very used to it, it has had time to fully grow and for me to appreciate it.
Whilst Confessions on a Dance Floor is my personal favourite Madonna album, Ray of Light is Madonna's best body of work in ... read more
