Nah bruh 2 decent songs cannot save you from this mid ass project. dear life is pretty good, a fav of my gf and dreams is decent, I never realized it was by Beck. However everything else here is really uninteresting and so far from Becks good albums. some of the shit on this album is real bad, like wow. that song is not worth listening to. man I was hoping for better from Becky here bit nope it's kind garb
A really strong indie rock album from the 2000s that I can tell was very influential going into the 2010s. IO saw this band live when I was a kid but they've always been a band I enjoyed a few songs from but was never a fan favorite. I like this album a lot! I think it has some of the best rock songs of the era, like checkered floors and ESPECIALLY lazy eye, wow that song is electric. It's also a really consistent listen, and doesn't really get old along it's almost hour ... read more
This was the 1000th album I've listened too, which is a crazy accomplishment for me. I've been keeping track for years now so hitting 1000 feels surreal lol. Anyways lamp is like the band to listen to with your partner, and me and my lovely gf and I enjoyed this together which was so nice. What a beautifully orchestrated and written record. The use of so many different influences come together perfectly, the vocals are so sweet and cute, and the atmosphere is just gorgeous and ... read more
I wanna give this an 85 but it just feels wrong tbh. I think the first half (abattoir blues) is the stronger half, featuring the cool mix of punk and blues this album likes sitting in. There she goes my beautiful world is my fav nick cave song ever, because it genuinely goes so fucking hard it's insane. a gospel punk banger! But the first Half has other good songs too, especially the first 2. The lyres of orpheus section is a lot slower and more acoustic, and features the intimate ... read more
sleeper great album from this random artist I had never heard of. Apparently this artist is related to Pescado Rabioso, an artist I'm sorta familiar with, but this is some really interesting Argentinean psychedelic music. The instrumentals are swirling and some of the guitar solos feel Hendrix-like in the way they just take you away with you lovely and psychedelic. I think the lead singer's voice is really nice, tho I can't understand what he's saying. The drums are also ... read more
An insanely energetic and groovy record that is both heavy and aggressive and beautiful in some moments. The interesting vocals throughout this project wail so hard, and basically every chorus hits like a mother. That isn't even talking about the absouleuty insane instrumentation and performances on this record. One of the strongest punk or punk adjacent projects I've heard. one armed scissor is like 11/10 and a genuine masterpiece, but rolodex propganda, arcasenal an invalid letter ... read more
Final foals album and yeah it's not really anything. Generally not terrible but still prolly their weakest project and I'm sure they won't be dropping a random banger album anytime soon. For a band with such an interesting sound this whole project feels completely disconnected in the same way What Went Down did, but man these songs are just so unmemorable
As I said in my review of part 1, part 2 is just plain boring. They try to add a heavier, rockier feeling to some of these songs, even leaning sort of proggy and artsy at times, but mostly it like falls flat on it's face into the "ford truck month car commercial" rock music. Imagine Muse in like 2015. they aren't terrible yet, but theri far from their prime. pretty disappointing album to be your only must hear project
A step up from the last project, but that isn't saying much honestly. This project brings back the dance -punk vibes of their early projects, but mixed it with the synthy pop rock they'd been experimenting with on What Went Down. The product is this two part album, where part 1 feels like it doesn't do much other than be baseline enjoyable, and part 2 is just boring. Some cool ideas and song sounds from this project, like the differing instrumentals, but foals songwriting ... read more
Tsubi Club's trinket fits right in with the hyperpop/indietronica fusion we've been seeing in the 2020s, but it does not stick out all too much. The songs are catchy and poppy, the production is glitchy and energetic, and the folktronica elements make the slower songs feel very natural in such a digital soundscape. It's not as immediately engaging as some other projects in this style, but still worth a listen and I look forward to seeing more Tsubi Club in the future.
Another one I'm gonna definitely relisten too but there are some absolutely nuts performances on basically any instrument you could want a crazy performance on. Biirdland was always my favorite track, but some of the others rip like nothing else
Defintily Needs a second listen but Stevie can't do much wrong. Bangers on bangers and while I don't think the tracklist is as legendary as songs in the key of life, this is still a beautifully arranged and well done soul album. Also, the vinyl cover has braille on it that's pretty cool
This is a pretty solid step up from their last record, but this group is pretty easily in the "put the fries in the bag" part of their career. I think the bluesier side of their sound is better than the poppier side and this kinda leans into that a bit more. Prolly why it's a but better but still pretty underwhelming.
One of the best rides in music, and one of the best tropical/summer albums ever. The rpduction is mind altering, and the fact this shit is made entirely using samples, AND it came out in 2000 is fucking insanity. it's so ahead of it's time it's crazy. So many songs have these crazy grooves or atmospheres that seem impossible to achieve only using samples, like Since I left You and Two hearts in 3/4. But I also really love the weirder songs that kinda leans into the plunder ... read more
if this was released as an album it would be my aoty prolly, but know it's still one of the best collections of psychedelic pop songs curated in recent history. My absolute favorite is the absolute prog opus of second sleep, but I think they synths on human happiness are great, and there's some greater slower cuts too. Star Eyes and this is the world are so nice and beautiful. I could listen to Magdalena bay forever the music is just so lush and nice
Idk if this is just me but I was really not a fan of the sound of this project. it's way synthier and more washed out and grand, which sure has its moments but it just made me miss the math punk of their early days. Specifically the song London thunder made me really go "wow I'm not loving this" then after it was done I threw on some tracks from the debut and man those still hit. I hope the next albums lean more into the easier stuff but this is still a low for me
Pretty solid fun pop album. I like the synths a lot, they're super glittery and produced super cleanly and fit well with her energy and vocals. I also noticed some hella Magdalena Bay influence in a lot of this, although I can't remember what song specifically was like that. I think this is a fun album, with some spunk and energy and I like that, we will see what else Robyn does in her ever evolving career. also the title track was really bad like very not good bad
Failure returns with another awesome project of spacey atmospheric alt rock. I really enjoy their style of songwriting and use of old space rock mixed with grunge, and it's a sound that continues to be interesting well into their career. It just feels like a great sequel to fantastic planet, one of my favorite grunge albums ever. The guitar tones are thick and full, and theirs some amazing songwriting. The rising skyline with Hayley Williams is so pretty, and solid state is my other ... read more
Meh prolly not coming back to this one all that much. It's a cool project of remixes and different versions based on the Coachella set, and it serves more as a good live set than a good album. I prefer when NIN is more storytelling/songwriting based and this album is more faced on instrumentals and beats
Some great standout tracks like Inhaler and My Number, but the album as a whole isn't anything special for Foals or any other band really. They continue to stick to their sound, which is a nice sound with cool ideas, but it still does not have the full album cohesiveness and stuff that they have the potential for
