Talk Talk - Laughing Stock

/mu/ challenge #21

The band's last studio album, "Laughing Stock" is a great post-rock album. It's atmospheric and melancholic, with the lyrics talking about christianity and death. From what I know, they were trying to make this LP sound honest, like the band was in the same room with you. The cohesive, minimalistic 6-song long album is overall an great experience, mixing jazz rock with etheral sounds of the main genre.

"Nervous, Sad, Poor..."

The first field recording in the song's intro tells us about a corrupt government, heavy drug usage, and slowly dying, suffocating in the post-apocalyptic world.

"We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
And the machine is bleeding to death"

The second part of this song starts with a train and goes into a Shepard tone, which is an auditory illusion of a tone that seems to be descending or ascending. It makes ... read more

Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun

/mu/ challenge #19

A great etheral and atmospheric record from the post-rock band Sigur Rós, Ágætis byrjun is a very melancholic and soothing experience. The ambient sound of this LP is executed very well, calming the listener and leading them into some sort of trance. When listening, I had the image of desolated iceland fjords that were covered in fog, due to the album's lush, yet gloomy sound. Defintely an album that's experienced the best when listened from ... read more

A very industrial, nihilistic album from the post-punk band Have A Nice Life, Deathconsciousness is an extraordinary record. The whole sound of this album is how it feels to be a human. The gulit, sorrow, pain, it's all here. The gritty lo-fi production works with gloomy vocals and hard-hitting lyrics to paint the feeling of slowly falling into a downward spiral and suffocating in your own depression is executed very well, showing what it's like to suffer from ... read more

Radiohead magnum opus, amazing in every way, "OK Computer" is an amazing concept album. I was already acknowledged to this album, but I've never heard it from start to finish as a whole. And it blown me even more than before. Every track on there is amazing and fits perfectly with eachother. The step-up in quality from The Bends is realy visible, every track managed to upgrade from it's predecessor. The cold, melancholic sound and the lyrics about ... read more

The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground & Nico

/mu/ challenge #15

An amazing experimental and avant-garde album from The Velvet Underground. The instrumentals of tracks on ths LP perfectly paint the emotions of the tracks and the vocals are also amazing. The noisy sound of songs such as Heroin is mixed with chill vibes such as Femme Fatale, although no matter what instrumental they're going with, it doesn't lose it's originality and the unsettling feeling. Definitely a standout in 60's rock.

This album is my first experience with baroque pop, so I went in with completly no expectations. This LP made me feel really melancholic and nostalgic, which I quite enjoyed since I always enjoyed some nostalgia in music I hear. Although the albums overall sound is definetly a departure from my usual taste, I can't say I didn't enjoy it. In fact, this album was great and for me it's a good start into the baroque pop genre they were going for.

The Velvet Sundown - Floating on Echoes

I'm going to do a rant, because this LP is the most disgusting thing I've passed by in a while

Why do we keep giving things that we enjoy doing, like music and generally art, into the cold hands of generative AI for it to make a soulless song that further destroys the music industry?

It's horrible. This band is nothing but greed. Their AI slop is produced solely for money making. And it seems like the 600.000 pepole listening to this purely don't give a fuck about giving ... read more

Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind

A very unique, atmospheric record. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the noisy, experimental rock here. Helpless Child's instrumental after Gira's vocals is god-like, everything blends together into making this melodic, beatiful track that blowed my mind when I first heard it. Everything on this LP is great, truly a fanastic 2 and a half hours experience.

Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica

This LP is the most bizzare sounding music I had ever heard in my life. It fuses blues, jazz, rock, free improvisation and avant-garde into creating this sound. I'm going to say it - I didn't like it. Most of the times, I felt like the band had no idea what they're doing, seemingly adding random instruments at random moments and calling it a day. I'm aware that many pepole will disagree with me, since I saw many pepole praising this work, but I just ... read more

American Football - American Football

A melancholic and comfortingly sad self-titled release from the Math Rock band "American Football". The songs are mainly about love, heartbreak and regrets, packed into a cohesive 40-minute 9 song LP. Great from start to finish, the guitar work on this album is really great and the overall feeling of nostalgic melancholy is executed very well. I love the album cover, it perfectly represents the tracks it contains.

This album grew on me a lot.

When I listened to "Lost Boys" I doubted I'd ever get into this kind of music. And now, I'm vibing with the most chaotic, noisy hip-hop I know about.

This album isn't created to please the listener. It's bleak, aggresive, noisy, off-grid, with vocals shouted straight into your face with even more aggresive and dark lyrics. It's unpredictable nature draws me closer with each listen, it's amazing in the ... read more

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

A good album from rapper and producer Kanye West, although there are some great pop rap tracks such as "Power" or "Devil in a New Dress", I felt like the quality of the songs decrease on the second half, for example the weird long skit on the end of "Blame Game" which left me weirded out. This albums has it's lows, but when it hits it really hits with some undeniable BANGERS. I'm more of a fan of his previous work, but this album is ... read more

/mu/ challenge #8

An climatic and devastatingly beatiful album, "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" is one of the best post-rock I had ever heard. It's compositions are strikingly emotional but also comforting. The field recording usage is excellent, especially on "Sleep". Although there is no singer, it still manages to be interesting and has the ability to lure the listener into a land of epic, atmospheric sound. For me, the second half is better than ... read more

A record you have to experience

This album is this type of music that once you hear it you crave for more sound like this, ultimately completly changing your music taste. And this had happened to me.

Before listening to this I surely listened to progresive rock - I liked Pink Floyd, had an DSOTM cd copy. But when I heard this LP, a whole phase for this genre started for me. It's safe to say this is one of the best in it's own respectable genre. And it's ... read more

Very interesting math rock record, with typical for this genre antics such as weird time signatures. This album was a full ride, ranging from quiet guitars and spoken word to loud instrumentals and really emotional screaming (End of the track "Good Morning, Captain"). I enjoyed it from start to finish and I can safely say that this record is great and I would recommend it if you're getting into this type of music

Talking Heads - Remain in Light

/mu/ challenge #5

The weirdest album of the 80's, "Remain In Light" is funky, groovy and energetic with it's signature quirkiness that makes the album even more enchanting. This record is fun from start to finish, with it's almost bizzare sounding songs such as "Houses in Motion". The album shows this fascinating desire to just lash out artistically and freely explore. I'm already acknowledged to this LP, since I'm a Talking Heads fan and I own a CD ... read more

This album is one of the weirdest and most captivating thing I had heard in a while. There is some excellent experimentation and I can't lie that some songs were much better than I could ever imagine. The psychedelic - art direction they were going for is definetly executed very well. Although, some songs didn't stick to me this well, I wouldn't call any song on this LP a bad track or a flop - all of them are interersting in their own way, sounding like nothing ... read more

Quintessential shoegaze album, a must-listen for any fan of loud, fuzzy sound. It's great, every song feature a new, fresh sound that makes the album going without repeating itself over and over with the same dreamy sound. It's great and it's influence cannot be overstated. With what I said, I don't think this album is a 100, but its really close to the score. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future after a re-listen, but right now I'll stick ... read more

The best left-turn in music history.

After Radiohead's magnum opus and also their creative breakthrough, Ok Computer, that gave us some of the most innovative and amazing tracks that ranged from chill, melancholic songs (No Surprises) to lenghty, heavy and world-judgmental Paranoid Android, which is in my opinion their best song and will continue to be my soat

That being said, after their peak, someone could've say their next album would be great, but it ... read more

"@hogeqmain Thank you! The thought that this album is essentially a celebration of life actually occurred to me recently while listening to "Reckoner," specifically the bridge, which inspired me and made me realize that this album has been with me my entire life, so I wrote about my experience in my review. It's nice to see someone agrees with me :)"

"I'm so glad I could motivate you with my review :) I could sense that you're still figuring out things on the vocal delivery and flow - after all, it's your second song. Honestly, keep going! You certainly have the potential to publish even more high-quality works, especially since you listen to criticism with an open mind and really take it to heart."
On yonn's review of Myslovitz - Korova Milky Bar
"It’s so nice to see how much love this album gets outside Poland :) The comments are depressing since the lyrical content is quite heavy, so you are right about the language barrier. Also, the album was on streaming for a short amount of time this year, but it got taken down for unknown reasons. The band already announced a reissue, calling the one on streaming a “butchered” version in terms of tracklist and audio quality. They were pretty much right, since some of the songs, such as “Chciałbym umrzeć z miłości”, weren’t available back then. Right now, there’s no news from them, though."
On SHITNOISE - Charades
"No problem ;) I'll definetly check out your earlier stuff in the future! Also, don't dismiss your work as some teenage maximalistc project as you put it, since it's clear you guys created this work because you are passionate about it. Every artist has rough stages early into their career, but it shows that you're constantly learning and evolving into something unique! :)"

"Well, it will be definitely a interesting album! I really like witch house, so I'll give your vision on it a try once the albums comes out. I would also say the field recording detail is fine, it's just too loud and in your face, but I've seen on the other review you already know about it haha"
