Tame Impala - End Of Summer
50

It's... alright. I was never crazy over Tame Impala, but I enjoyed a few of his bigger hits, though I never dived deeper into his discography. From what I know, he always liked to experiment with his style. He incorporated things like fuzz on Lonerism or went more into the psychedelic side of his production with Currents and The Slow Rush. I know that he is capable of making great long songs, Let It Happen is an obvious example - the instrumentals are interesting, smoothly changing from ... read more

Giles Corey - Giles Corey

/mu/ challenge #51

At first, I thought this album wasn't for me – the first song was good, but I was still sceptical about whether the album would stick with me. However, with the start of the second song, all my doubts were gone. On this album, Dan Barrett, under the pseudonym "Giles Corey", who is better known from the post-punk band Have A Nice Life, presents a very atmospheric, folk sound that stands out from the band's work. Instead of going into their typical ... read more

Thanks for the recommendation @Dashy!

I went into this album with no expectations whatsoever. I didn't think this album would be weak, I simply don't have any deeper knowledge in the genre. The only experimental hip-hop albums I know about are the most popular ones on this website - JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, you get the point. But, returning to this album, it certainly delivered. The instrumentals were amazing - they were cinematic, but not to the point where they felt over-the-top. I ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS

Woah, that was quick. It felt like yesterday when Chromakopia was on everyone's topic - It was basically unavoidable. Releasing another album not even a year after an critically acclaimed album is very hard, considering the quality must be as good or even better as the previous one. So, is it as good as his previous releases? No. But did I had fun listening to this? Hell yeah.

Tyler instead of going into more personal topics just makes an album to have fun to. To be honest, the beats ... read more

Duster - Stratosphere

/mu/ challenge #49

A very melancholic album that sounds very soft and calm despite its gritty, lo-fi production. The repeated, minimalistic instrumentals are amazing and I always loved soundscapes that would do this - its like the melody is barely sticking out through all that noise, yet it's still hearable. To be honest, my expectations were really high, since I already knew the song Earth Moon Transit (I love it btw) and their next album Contemporary Movement is one of my favourite ... read more

100 gecs - 10,000 gecs
100

Gec back once again. On 10,000 gecs they incorporate aspects of many diffrent genres. Although the whole thing is still rooted firmly to hyperpop, the approach to it is much different. For example, Hollywood Baby is an amazing rock anthem, that still incorporates the main genre auto-tuned vocals in the chorus. Billy Knows Jamie goes into a rap metal direction, which is clearly made as a parody of this genre's antics. Doritos & Fritos is a dance punk banger that I could play constantly ... read more

Uhm, so how do I start. The whole album sound is crazy. It's quirky and chaotic, yet it somehow works. It's crystal clear the band isn't trying to be taken seriously - it's a release that's experienced the best when you don't overanalyze it, just let it's mayhem hit you. It fuses some of the most surreal and weird instruments I had ever heard. Money Machine literally sounds like saturation in photoshop. The music they're creating is a overwhelming wave of ... read more

This album sound is like those 80's sunset backgrounds, or at least that's what I think it sounds like - waves of chill, ambient synths. Although I thought I'd like this a lot more. My main complain about this LP were the vocals used in some songs, off-putting and weird. Some songs had a potential to be great, but were ended way too quickly, for example 待機 which cuts at 1:10 minuts long. The thing I liked the most about these songs was how calm and ... read more

Low - I Could Live in Hope

/mu/ challenge #47

A collection of dreamy, yet sad songs from Low, I Could Live in Hope has the feeling of bittersweet melancholy captured the best among the slowcore bands I had listened to. The slow-paced and minimalistic instrumentals work in favour of this album. They're haunting and depressive, complementing the vocals very well. "Lullaby" is the best song from the genre, it contains everything that makes the genre great and adds its own twist to it that's just ... read more

Nine Inch Nails - As Alive As You Need Me To Be
90

Amazing single for an upcoming soundtrack, As Alive As You Need Me To Be fuses their signature industrial sound with a cyberpunk touch. Although it isn't as harsh as their critically aclaimed work in the industrial genre, it still rocks pretty hard and can be a pretty interesting comeback from the dark ambient albums they've been creating for a while. I'm pretty hyped up, both for the release of this soundtrack and for the movie.

Codeine - Frigid Stars LP
90

/mu/ challenge #45

A debut from the slowcore band Codeine, Frigid Stars LP portray a soul-crushing experience through the slow instrumentals and Stephen's low and distant vocals. The whole thing is very monotonous but it works perfectly with the emotions the album portrays - sadness and emotional agony. Although they can't be compared to other slowcore bands - the sound they're creating is very depressing, the use of overdrive and disortion create a layer of noise that ... read more

Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill

/mu/ challenge #44

A great collecton of singer-songwriter slowcore songs with an element of folk rock. I really enjoyed the minimalistic instrumentation and the slower tempos, it was a giant contrast to what I had listened earlier. The soundscapes it created was very melancholic and atmospheric, especially the vocals. Although the songs are quite long, I enjoyed every single one of them from start to finish. It's sad, but also very comforting and intimate, especially with Mark's ... read more

Cardiacs - Sing to God

/mu/ challenge #43

This album was one of the most bizarre, yet captivating albums from the progressive rock niche I've ever heard. While I was listening, I felt like the main character in a Tim Burton movie - the soundscapes it creates would perfectly fit into one of his movies. The whole album is over-the-top and theatrical - from riffs to keyboards, everything here feels cinematic and grand, which adds up to the whole atmosphere of this LP. The album cover perfectly shows how this album ... read more

Fugazi - Repeater
90

/mu/ challenge #42

A record that's basically fuming with anger and rebellious spirit, Fugazi perfected the post-hardcore ear candy on Repeater. While listening to this, I swear I could've just bang my head for it's entire running time. This album is very anti-capitalistic, the lyrics talk about greed, violence and drug abuse. They are really far from the simple raw three-chord punk, but they managed to keep the soul of the genre perfectly.

The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs
71

/mu/ challenge #41

The longest album I had ever heard, 69 Love Songs is hard to pinpoint into one specific genre - the album explores a big variety of them, such as chamber pop, folk, synthpop and country, but what connected them together was the chill sound it created, no matter what genre The Magnetic Fields got along with. Although some songs felt like they were trying to hit the 69 mark too hard, for example Punk Love, I still found some songs that I loved. Overall, it's a good pack ... read more

Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One

/mu/ challenge #40

I guess /mu/ has the skill of finding amazing indie albums perfected - I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is an wonderful album, combining dream pop and neo-psychedelia with indie roots. The basslines here were perfect. This record manages to flow very smoothly with every song, despite being very diverse in its soundscapes. What can I say - my indie rock itch had been scratched very well

Les Rallizes Dénudés - '77 Live

/mu/ challenge #39

The hardest listen I've had in a while. I've always been a fan of abrasive music - the more noisy, chaotic and unpredictable the soundscape is the better. But this album was too much for me. It isn't terrible by any means - the sound it creates is very unique, especially considering the time it was recorded, but I didn't enjoy listening to it. The songs were also long, which didn't help and made this a very exhausting experience. While I respect what ... read more

Built to Spill - Perfect from Now On

/mu/ challenge #38

That album was amazing. As I said in my Modest Mouse review, I always loved some Indie Rock, but Perfect From Now On combines it with some of my other favourite genres - post-rock, art and psychdelic rock. The songs are lenghty, but they make a very rewarding experience - I enjoyed every second of this album. The instrumentals are the best thing from this LP - unconventional, lush and amazing. I feel like this record is going to stay with me for a long time - it's ... read more

Deftones - my mind is a mountain
80

First single to their upcoming album, my mind is a mountain is a very solid and great song that fuses the Around The Fur rage with the dreamy side of Koi No Yokan. Although I would like it more if it was longer, it's still a pretty good release and I'm waiting for what the other singles/the album has to offer.

"@hogeqmain Thank you! The thought that this album is essentially a celebration of life actually occurred to me recently while listening to "Reckoner," specifically the bridge, which inspired me and made me realize that this album has been with me my entire life, so I wrote about my experience in my review. It's nice to see someone agrees with me :)"

"I'm so glad I could motivate you with my review :) I could sense that you're still figuring out things on the vocal delivery and flow - after all, it's your second song. Honestly, keep going! You certainly have the potential to publish even more high-quality works, especially since you listen to criticism with an open mind and really take it to heart."
On yonn's review of Myslovitz - Korova Milky Bar
"It’s so nice to see how much love this album gets outside Poland :) The comments are depressing since the lyrical content is quite heavy, so you are right about the language barrier. Also, the album was on streaming for a short amount of time this year, but it got taken down for unknown reasons. The band already announced a reissue, calling the one on streaming a “butchered” version in terms of tracklist and audio quality. They were pretty much right, since some of the songs, such as “Chciałbym umrzeć z miłości”, weren’t available back then. Right now, there’s no news from them, though."
On SHITNOISE - Charades
"No problem ;) I'll definetly check out your earlier stuff in the future! Also, don't dismiss your work as some teenage maximalistc project as you put it, since it's clear you guys created this work because you are passionate about it. Every artist has rough stages early into their career, but it shows that you're constantly learning and evolving into something unique! :)"

"Well, it will be definitely a interesting album! I really like witch house, so I'll give your vision on it a try once the albums comes out. I would also say the field recording detail is fine, it's just too loud and in your face, but I've seen on the other review you already know about it haha"
