I worship this album -- have listened to the extended interviews and behind the scenes clips on YouTube n everything. Almost every song is perfect and even the ones that don't grab you with hooks serve a purpose. God I wish I wasn't two years old when it came out. I'm sure hearing it in the context of the times was incredible.
As apathetic I am about the whole genre of punk indie this n that that the Pixies spawned, I actually liked this a lot. I don't understand the critique that it's chaotic and all over the place. That's the whole point? Hmmm
My brother recommended this to me a while back. Decided to listen today as a tribute to Albini. Haunting string sounds.
I listen to every new Melvins album and more or less enjoy it, but this is truly all killer no filler. One of the most underrated bands on the dang planet.
+10 points over the first album just because the Prophecy is a gorgeous song. I wish she would ditch Antonoff and work with Dessner + other collaborators that actually challenge her.
Feels like they rushed to put something out quickly to squeeze as much clout out of the current T Swift phenomenon as possible. Production is garbage. Way too many words. Very few memorable music moments. Song with Florence definitely saves it from being even more forgettable. The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived is solid.
Eh...not for me. Feels like background music for some boutique that has candles and crystals for sale.
Everything she does on this one feels so fresh. She truly is the best of her generation.
EDIT: Knocked this down a little bit since I haven't been inspired to relisten even once since the initial.
She's doing some incredibly original and interesting stuff. Like Dolly, Kate Bush, and Stevie Nicks all combined forces to create the ultimate glam roots daughter.
I liked the ones with the choir. Everything else was good as background music.
I'm Not Crying, You're Crying is sick. Some other decent ones too.
