Although 4 minutes, it feels very short. On a technical level; the mixing, vocal producing, production in general, this song is perfect. It just feels like the past 3 singles but less original. Diet Pepsi is very sexy and airy, Aquamarine is more tropical and she uses her voice more, and High Fashion has very different production and vocal production. But this feels like Diet Pepsi x High Fashion. I still enjoyed it though, but I hope the record is a little more diverse.
An incredible victory lap for an extremely well-deserved grammy win from newly popular female rapper Doechii. Over the past couple of months, I've grown to really appreciate Doechii's debut mixtape "Alligator Bites Never Heal", as well as Doechii's performance skills and overall dedication to her craft. At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Doechii won "Best Rap Album", becoming the third ever female to win in this category since 1989, alongside Lauryn Hill & ... read more
The beginning and end of the track, aka the 'drums of death' are extremely infectious and creative mixed with the sexually liberating, cunty, whispered lyrics from FKA Twigs makes this my favorite single from the upcoming record and actually makes me really excited for what's to come.
Sabrina's third studio album and the first out of her "Singular" project, "Singular Act I" is a pop/r&b fusion record that doesn't do a great job of showcasing Sabrina's talents and personality. On Sabrina's latest record "Short n' Sweet", many people praise her for her vocal range & ability and her playful yet vulgar wordplay. This really has none of that. It has some super catchy tracks, but only a couple that really stick out in ... read more
After 2 years and an additional 15-hour delay due to mixing issues, the deluxe edition of SZA’s spectacular sophomore record SOS is finally here! Titled LANA after the nickname developed from her first name SOLANA after an experience where she only had $40 to get a tattoo of her name, $10 a letter. LANA is a pretty worthy expansion of SOS, similar enough to SOS to feel like a deluxe edition but different enough to stand out amongst all SOS standard tracks. The production is much more ... read more
BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ’s debut record is here and it’s… something. Channelling popular western, pop artists like Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, ROSÉ gives a look into her love life, most of the record presumably being about the same ex-partner. This record is very conflicting to me. The first half is very promising, not quite anything insanely special but I can get down with it. But the second half is incredibly bland and honestly just boring. Her vocals make ... read more
Doechii’s debut mixtape follows Doechii’s many experiences throughout the years and in the end, coming to terms with her complex emotions and learning how to deal with them. Throughout the mixtape, you can really hear so much personality, emotion, and passion packed into every track. I can tell this mixtape was made with so much love, and you can see that in the way Doechii talks about and performs it. It’s so refreshing to see someone, especially a rapper, that is so real and ... read more
Thank God these tracks are short, this EP tries to expand on the campy, overly horny "Slut Pop" but fails miserably. It's uncreative and awkward and most times. It seems like they thought of all the titles, then wrote a mediocre- at best- hook around it. This lacks any kind of charm or humor that made the first EP listenable. The production gets extremely repetitive making every time sound almost the exact same. Although extremely short in length at just 23 minutes, this EP drags ... read more
Slut Pop is overall a massive downgrade from her previous Halloween mixtape "TURN OFF THE LIGHT". It's campy, overly horny and somewhat fun, but lacks any kind of artistry that made Kim interesting to me in the first place. Most of the enjoyment I got from this record was just from the shock of how over-the-top the lyrics & sound effects were. From Kim's past works, I can tell that she has a really great voice and I feel like this type of music doesn't do her ... read more
C, XOXO is a messy, confusing exploration of love and being in your twenties. It’s rough around the edges, sometimes cringy, but always true to herself. I tried writing a track-by-track review for this album but realized that the lyrics really aren’t that great and that that format won’t work for every record. All of the interludes kind of fall flat for me, one literally just being a guy talking about how Camila’s music saved him for 48 seconds overtop a sad piano beat. ... read more
Although some redeeming qualities, every track on 143 feels lacking in vocals, production or lyrics, sometimes all at once. This album is basically the same song 11 times with different, terrible lyrics. Katy’s vocals feel robotic and lifeless in most tracks, and when she doesn’t something else is lacking. The lyrics constantly sound AI generated and so on-the-nose that it makes it hard to listen to. A lot of the time, I actually enjoy the production, but Katy does not deliver on ... read more
With all of the other projects released this year, “eternal sunshine” might seem mild in comparison, but as a long time Ariana fan, this was what got me through this year. It’s my favorite release this year by far and possibly my favorite album of all time(?) I’m gonna tell the story of eternal sunshine track by track and just review everything and it’s gonna be a fun time!! I’m gonna separate the songs by chapters because I think it’s fun, but ... read more
Christmas & Chill gives us a taste of what would later be the classic Ariana Grande formula that we see a lot on ‘positions’, some beautiful instrumentations and vocals with some insanely horny lyrics. Jokes aside, this is kind of a perfect pop Christmas project, one thing that most artists cannot pull off. The reason why this works is because Ari stays true to herself, she writes fun, true-to-herself Christmas songs and not just basic, on-the-nose lyrics that come across as ... read more
OKAY THIS MIGHT SEEM LIKE A HIGH SCORE BUT JUST HEAR ME OUT. I feel like people are only hating on this as badly as they are because of the fact that it is Jojo Siwa and the horror that was Karma and the corresponding dance & music video. I might be crazy but I see some potential here. If she drops the cringy lyrics and persona, maybe gets a new producer that can make less boring beats, she could be somewhat okay. But right here is nothing good. But it's also nothing terrible. ... read more
This is a masterclass in songwriting. On CHROMAKOPIA, we follow Tyler through many complicated situations that he's gotten himself into as well as exploring the themes of wearing a mask to cover who you truly are. This record is honestly some of the best-written tracks that I have ever heard and have really inspired me to listen to more of Tyler’s music. I feel like he definitely needs to be in the conversation for top three songwriters in recent years.
I don’t often review ... read more
BRAT is a cultural reset, it’s what we all needed. A cunty, sleaze, party record to really cleanse our palettes and culture all of us. Bringing hyperpop to mainstream, Charli xcx really dives deep into all of her emotions and feelings on fame, becoming older, and her relationships in such a vulnerable yet conversational and fun way. The production is a perfect blend between the rough hyperpop sounds of Pop 2 and how i’m feeling now and the mainstream pop influences of Crash mixed ... read more
This album hasn't fully grasped me like Submarine did, but I'm excited to listen to it more. But I'm gonna wait a little bit until I write a full review.
favs: Calling U Back, Heavy, Talk to Her
skips: none that i remember!
I LOVE THIS REMIX!! They're vocals all mix so well and it's literally just such an eargasm.
