Lana Del Rey - Born to Die

Lana Deep Dive 1/idek
Born to Die

This sound still feels new, Lana really was so ahead of her time. I really don’t understand any hate on this album. It’s Lana… but also at her most interesting. Her voice changes so much throughout the record. For example, she doesn’t even sound like herself in parts of ‘Off to the Races’, and it’s really cool. Her vocal delivery in general just fits the music perfectly and is kind of mysterious and somewhat ... read more

Ariana Grande - Positions
82

This album is a mixed bag for me. It starts out kind of rough, but the latter half of the album is really good in my opinion. It's really fun and fresh and fits this era perfectly. I honestly don't understand the hate for this album, because there are some really great songs on here. 'nasty', 'positions', 'pov', 'my hair', and so many more. She has some really great vocals on this album, compared to tun and sweetener where she uses her vocals in ... read more

Ariana Grande - Sweetener
90

This album is truly an EXPERIENCE. It's such a change from her older albums and she's honestly never made anything like it. Her vocals are really sweet and relaxed and she's not really doing any crazy riffs or whistle tones, which is really nice to hear. The writing isn't always the best, but it's much truer to Ariana than any of her previous work, which was really just trying to make hits most of the time. This is really her bread and butter, what she does best, and I ... read more

Ariana Grande - thank u, next
86

thank u, next is a near-perfect, near-skipless record, and a surprisingly experimental turn for Ariana Grande. To me, this and 'sweetener' are sister albums. They share the trap elements, using her voice in different ways than her prior records, similar themes and situations, just different outlooks. This has some of her most introspective tracks like 'thank u, next', 'needy' into 'NASA', and 'make up'. She really digs into every part of herself ... read more

Wicked Movie Cast - Wicked: The Soundtrack
90

I FINALLY SAW THE MOVIE!! After listening to this soundtrack on repeat since it came out a week ago, I FINALLY saw the movie, and although this won't be a movie review I thought it was amazing. I gave it 4.5 stars, although I think it definitely deserves 5, I think I need to see it again because my theater experience wasn't great. The only time I cried, weirdly, was during The Wizard and I. Probably because it's my favorite song but ANYWAYS. This is a perfect soundtrack for a ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
88

This is a really fun project that I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did. It starts out with kind of a classic Kendrick track, 'wacced out murals' is dark and wordy asserting his dominance in the rap world as one of the best of all time. It really picks up in the second half and is one of my favorites. The next track 'squabble up' is fun and unserious down to the vocal delivery, which is my favorite thing about this song. Kendrick sounds kinda sassy in the chorus and ... read more

Gracie Abrams - Good Riddance (Deluxe)
73

Whenever a Gracie Abrams deluxe drops, I always just feel like they are direct copies from tracks on the standard album that didn't make the cut because they were too similar. I may just need more time with these, but they don't hold a candle to the rest of the album.

Gracie Abrams - Good Riddance
85

This is a really solid debut album from Gracie, an artist that has become one of my favorite comfort artists over the past year. It takes everything great about "This Is What It Feels Like" but creates a whole new sonic landscape that is perfectly reflected in the album artwork. Her lyrics are much more full of imagery in this record, which is why I think makes a whole world in my head and why I enjoy it so much. It's not anything spectacular, and my score might seem very high, ... read more

Gracie Abrams - This Is What It Feels Like
83

'This Is What It Feels Like' is Gracie Abrams second EP although it feels like the perfect debut album. Gracie's writing style is very defined, but she doesn't branch out much. For this EP, it works. But for other projects it may not. The vocal delivery is not for everyone but she has an ability to show incredible emotion with her vocals and I don't think she gets enough credit for that. This is the project that got me into Gracie (yes i AM an og) and I'm sad to ... read more

Mitski Deep Dive 3/7

On the first listen of this record, I was stumped. I had a couple critiques toward the beginning of the record, but by the end, all of those critiques kind of proved to only be in the first couple of tracks. Then, during my second listen, I was fully proven wrong. My main concern was actually the songwriting. For some reason, on my first listen, I guess I just didn’t grasp the concepts of the songs but I described some of the tracks as ‘not fleshed out’ ... read more

Sabrina Carpenter - fruitcake
90

Honestly, one of Sabrina's most cohesive and concise projects to date! Before 'Short n' Sweet' I might've said this was my favorite project from her, just because of how hard it is to make really great Christmas music that also sounds fresh. This is some of her most creative and clever lyricism yet, and it's a Christmas EP ! The production includes all the Christmas staples and the faint sound of sleigh bells carries throughout the entire EP. There's also a ... read more

Mitski Deep Dive 2/7

If you haven’t read my first review for this series I really recommend just so you can see my full evolution with Mitski! Okay, now let’s get into it:

This record proves that Mitski was born to be a star! The lyrical ability that she had from such a young age is incredible. Like I said in my past review, she has such a way with showing basic emotions in a beautiful poetic way, while also perfectly explaining super complex feelings. I was a little worried going ... read more

Poppy - EAT (NXT Original Soundtrack)
83

My experience with Poppy has been an odd one. The first time I ever saw her was in 2020 when I saw a video titled “How To Apply Your Mask”… posted nearly 7 years prior to the pandemic. It was only about a minute long so I clicked on it. There was Poppy, in a completely white room, teaching the viewer how to put on a mask. Her mannerisms and voice were like a robot, with creepy music in the background, it made for a very intriguing atmosphere. I immediately wanted to know ... read more

Broadway Cast - Wicked (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
83

I'm listening to this in preparation for the new Wicked movie, and I'm already in love with it (at least Act I, I haven't listened to Act II at the time I'm writing this), and I thought I'd just review it on here :) Through limited knowledge about the musical, Genius, and the music itself, I can pretty much see the entire story from just the songs, which is kinda rare. But I really enjoy it and I actually have been listening to it a lot, which I usually don't do ... read more

Poppy - Negative Spaces
85

wowowowow I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. At first I wasn't even going to listen to it, but the high scores and album cover brought me in. Metal isn't usually my genre but I've always been extremely fascinated by Poppy and I've never checked out her music, but I'm so glad I listened to this. I like every side of this record, the extreme screaming and metal elements, and the more synth pop tracks like 'crystalized', it's all great. A lot ... read more

Mistki Deep Dive 1/7

I’m starting my deep dive into Mitski, FINALLY! I’ve always been intrigued by Mitski and everything about her. Her voice, her lyrics, and her as a person. Of course I’ve heard the TikTok hits, but the first time I fell in love with Mitski was when I heard ‘Drunk Walk Home’. I listened to it at least 20 times the first week since I found it and I was obsessed. But after that, I kind of just forgot about her and focused on other artists. But ... read more

Dev Lemons - Why Did I Laugh Anyway
85

I love Dev as a YouTuber and I knew she made music, but I really didn't expect it to be this good. But, if I'm being completely honest, I feel like the production kind of carries. Her voice is very unique and I'd love to hear more, but with these lyrics and melodies I'm not sure if this is the best fit for her voice. This definitely surprised me though and I'm excited to see her more serious work in the future!

Lizzy McAlpine - Older
78

I feel like this is an album that needs and deserves to be sat with over a long period of time. While the vibes are great, I don't really see anything in Lizzy that's so different from the other singer/songwriter girls out right now. I hope to grow to enjoy this album as much as everyone else does, but for now it's a little above average for me.
