Janis Joplin is a terrible singer. She’s like a Jimi Hendrix right after Jimi Hendrix, Axl Rose before Axl Rose, sounding exactly like Axl but a worse singer than him.
In terms of singing, she’s just as bad as Jimi. However, the difference between them lies in that Jimi sings less in his 6-minute song than Janis sings in her 3-minute song. And she’s done all that despite having, I would say, quite a decent accompanying band.
If “Blue” is Joni’s most beautiful album, “Court and Spark” the most exciting, then “Hejira” is gotta be the most open, warm sounding record that she’s ever put out.

Btw, 1976 was such an insane year for music, we’ve got Joni’s “Hejira”, Stevie’s “Songs in the Key of Life”, Bowie’s “Station to ... read more
This is quite a guitar album, not the most relistenable one, but certainly a nice one.
Acoustic Herbie band may actually be da GOAT man. And motherfxxking Freddie Hubbard man, he may actually be the best trumpet “player” of all time as well. Fucking hell. Absolutely killing it. Ok, pretty much everyone is killing it here lmao.
I absolutely adore it. It’s full of class, excitement, and truly is smooth like criminal.
There are two more songs “E的幽靈 & 深夜明亮”, on the Japanese release, in which were not featured in the original Taiwanese release, but they are just as great as the four tracks featured in the original.
Fav Track: 透明雜誌FOREVER, 深夜明亮

It’s certainly an album with a very distinct sound, open and lazy. It sounds like waking up or walking with sunshine splashed onto your face.
I think the track list is missing some tracks. Anyway, I love how it’s constantly jumping between incomprehensible ideas, killer grooves, and heavy guitar with some iconic 80s drum and synth sounds poped up every now and then yet that’s only for the first half.
The second half becomes more decorated with the more jazzy funk tracks and some theme-like tracks, which diminishes the fun I gained in the first half quite a bit. Nonetheless, you still cannot ignore the stellar ... read more
Although I had only listened to two records from Joni, but ion know man, I think she might have already perfected the singer-songwriter folkish genre. This album is utterly beautiful!!!!!!
There’s no essence in this or whatsoever. May not be completely, but very much so. Quite disappointing.
It often sounds cool, and then guitar soloes make it sound shit. John McLaughlin’s playing are just awful, DUHHHHH
The coolest Mile Davis album I’ve heard. Or is it Gil Evan’s album? Ion know.
