Another favorite by a favorite. I do go tend to go back and forth arguing with myself if I like this or Toxicity more.
Love how unhinged this whole album is. From the start, who album grips you with its chaotic nature. Suite-Pee feels like witnessing someone on the verge of a mental breakdown, but they keep it contained enough to still be clarity behind the emotions.
Even the slower songs have this feeling. Spiders is such a wonderful slow burn, starting of very mellow and then building and ... read more
Might as well check this out before I make my end of the year list.
Honestly expected to hate this more, but I do find there to be some enjoyment in here. I think reputation and THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT are worse as those albums were really hard to get through from the get-go. I find Life of a Showgirl to actually have some bangers in the first 1/3 of the album (I actually like Opalite quite a bit).
However, the album did get quite annoying and bland as it went further on. I'm not a ... read more
As someone who's gotten into 40K within the last year, finding out there was an 80's death metal band that themed their music on the universe is fucking WILD. Especially considering the art style of the universe has changed pretty drastically since then.
Still, even with this album being as old as it is, it still kicks a lot of ass. Love how sludgy the guitar tone is, and it's backed up by some wonderful riffs that really get in the mood to slay some xenos scum.
I hear these ... read more
You know I be blasting the fuck out of My War any time it comes on Channel X while playing GTA V.
My War is an iconic and important album I wish I loved more. I just prefer the sound of 2000's and 2010 scene compared to the old days.
Still, this is a really fun and aggressive album that gets me in the mood to eat some drywall. The title track is especially great.
I will say that for some reason the mix on streaming services is super quiet and I had to crank up my headphones super loud ... read more
Asuka: Hey Nergal? Do you know Candace?'
Nergal: YOUR MOTHER HUNG HERSELF.
Just a really enjoyable album from these guys. Really love how chunky and heavy the riffs are in this one. The Seed Ov I is very much Gojira coded, but it's in the best way possible.
Yeah, it's not the most groundbreaking thing I've heard from the band, but it is performed and written very well, and that's all I can ask for.
Saw these two live last year and it was one of the best live performances I've seen. They released a new album this year, and I wanted to share my thoughts on it, but neither of them have an AOTY page, so I had to make one from scratch.
Kuf Knotz & Christine Elise is a duo. Knotz is a rapper and makes the beats, Elise is a singer and plays the harp. It's quite an unusual duo, but one that works really, really well.
They complement each other so well. One moment you have some ... read more
Phenomenal.
I liked Viribus Unitis, but this album is on another fucking plane. The instrumentation is tighter and more dynamic, creating an overwhelmingly gruesome and depressing atmosphere.
The folk elements are also handled much better on here than on Viribus Unitis. They feel much more impactful and deliberate that not only gives the lister a moment of rest from the onslaught of black metal instrumentation, but a wonderful tie into the lyrics, which continue to be haunting and harrowing ... read more
Needed a palate cleanser. Been listening to much good music recently.
So, on PRESIDENT's AOTY page, if you scroll to the bottom and look at the recommended artists that sound similar, the first artist isn't even a metal band. It's Olivia Rodrigo. That's a pretty big insult to Olivia IMO.
Processed doesn't even describe how filled with effects this thing is. The autotune is wack, the drums are sterile and the guitars, actually the guitars sound fine and I liked a few ... read more
Going through Knocked Loose's discography backwards showed me a few things, the biggest being that they have gotten better and better with each release. Now finishing their debut, a new thing I've learned is that they have been pretty solid from the get-go.
This thing is such a quick listen, and I think that is a benefit. This thing is pretty rough around the edges and isn't quite the masterpiece like A Tear in the Fabric of Life or You Won't Go Before You're Supposed ... read more
FromSoftware's sound team never misses.
Really fucking bummed no one directed me towards this album when I started getting into black metal. Besides Deafheaven, this is probably one of the most approachable albums in the genre.
Even better is that it doesn't sacrifice any of the edge the genre is known for. There is still plenty of moments where the tremolo guitars and blast beats go insane, but there are also plenty of moments where everything slows down and you get some really pretty folksy sections.
I also have to shout ... read more
Thanks to @Lady6ov6Fire for the recommendation. I've had my eye on this one since I listened to Annihilation of the Wicked back in October.
This albums has a Call of Duty Zombies sample in Yezd Desert Ghul Ritual in the Abandoned Towers of Silence. I don't need to say any more, this is peak.
I do find more enjoyment in Annihilation of the Wicked, which seems to be pretty common take, but this is still great. Just nonstop intensity that had me doing backflips on the pharos's ... read more
Fuck it. It's a perfect album to me and the best tech-death album I've listened to.
It's weird calling a band called Dying Fetus tasteful, but the way this album is structured and performed, with plenty of face melting riffs, brutally heavy slams and beautiful solos, it is all so fucking good.
The production on here is also S tier. I initially harped on the way the snare sounds, but at this point it's a nonissue, especially with how well the guitars, bass and vocals are ... read more
I'm really not a fan of the crusty, lo-fi nature of 90's black metal, but I found a lot of enjoyment out of this one. Really love how dynamic this one was. Riffs are great, drumming is neat, and the synths work surprisingly well, creating a fuller wall of sound.
I think the vocals are a bit goofy, but compared to other bands at this time, I greatly prefer this.
I only have one listen under my belt, but I'm sure another listen while I'm driving home in the cold will really ... read more
Thanks to @Lady6ov6Fire for the recommendation. I've been on this site for more than a year, and I had no idea there was a recommend tab on here. Really shows how good my perception skills are.
I get pretty worried when I listen to early 90's death metal, as I find a lot of it to be a bit too rough and crunchy (derogatory). Thankfully, this is one of the good ones from this era.
This is pretty crunchy, but I find it to be a lot more endearing on here. Alongside that, you can clearly ... read more
My opinion on this album really hasn't changed in the year since I first heard it. That opinion being that this album is fucking phenomenal and is one of my favorite albums of the 2010s.
Gorillaz's ability to bring a bunch of different artists together is best utilized on this album compared to the last two. Each feature is perfect and brings out the best of said artist and Gorillaz as well.
The way this album sounds is also just amazing. It's so lush and dynamic, you never ... read more
Quite good actually. The two bands actually mix together pretty well, especially since Converge experiments with their sound a bit on this one, making a nice contrast from the grindcore first half.
It's not anything crazy nor as engaging as the two previous Converge albums, but this is still quite entertaining and goes pretty hard.
I was that kid who played Feel Good Inc. a lot at the function. I have no regrets.
Although I like Plastic Beach more, this album is still fantastic. I mean, what else can I say about this thing? It's fun, witty and charming. All the features rule and it's a real smooth listen front-to back.
It's a gosh darn classic if I've ever seen one.
Never sat with this one in full before. Feels like a good time to do so with the new album coming out.
While there are some incredible highs on here, I also found quite a few songs to be flat-out annoying. I think it's enough to keep me from calling the album great, but there is still plenty to enjoy here, including some iconic songs in Gorillaz's discography.
