That's a pretty fucked up ouroboros on the cover, but to be fair, this album fucked me up.
Love the combination of the gloomy aesthetic with the walls of reverb. Makes the atmosphere nice and thick. The whole album is pretty good, but for me, Fire on the Roof was when things started becoming GREAT.
The most 2000's sounding album released this year (affectionate).
I feel as if the first half is significantly more interesting than the second. Both songs do an excellent job at building suspense and knowing when to let it go. Both are great and are reason enough to give this album a whole lot of praise.
2nd half is fine but really shows that this album would have been better if it was trimmed up a bit more. I already appreciate that this one is under an hour, as music like this tends to be on the 90 minute or even 2-hour side of things, but I think there ... read more
If you don't listen to this one with headphones, you are playing yourself.
CASPER might end up being my song of the year. Unbelievably good song there.
JAKE LEG 🗣🔥🔥🔥
It takes everything enjoyable about Red Album and enhances it. The riffs are better, the transitions are smoother, the fat is trimmed. It's the same thing, but BLUE!
My gaming buddies from Salt Lake saw these guys live last year and told me to check them out. It's been a while since I've listened to this one, and since I was on my sludge binge a while ago, I feel it was a good time to revisit them.
It meanders quite a bit, but I enjoyed a lot of what this album did. Going from super pretty acoustic sections to crushing, sludgy riffs all in the same song was a real treat to hear.
It's all very consistently good throughout, and for a debut ... read more
This is like my third time writing a review for this god-forsaken album, but I never really got to my emotional truth when talking about it. Well, now I feel like it’s time to come clean:
I kinda like it.
It’s still a spectacular failure and arguably one of the worst metal albums ever made, don’t get me wrong. This is still a terrible album, but there is a genuine nature to it and it does see the band try something new. On top of that, it’s a perfect reflection of the ... read more
The funny skull guy is gone for this one. I’m getting serious here as I have no jokes to tell.
This is going to sound insane but stick with me here: this is significantly worse than St. Anger.
I completely get the idea that St. Anger is one of the worst metal albums ever made. The album is a spectacular failure at almost everything it tries to do.
But see here’s the thing, it tries to do something interesting. Metallica as a band was a mess and the album reflected that. In a ... read more
A pretty entertaining deathcore album that doesn't take itself too seriously. Can't say I found this to be on par with some other deathcore heavy hitters that released this year, but it doesn't need to be. It's stupid fun and that's all I can ask for.
For being the band's shortest album to date, I ironically found it to be the hardest to get through.
I'm not really the biggest Chat Pile fan, but they do have a lot of skin-tearing bangers under their belt. I knew going into this one it was going to be different, and different can be good, but it can also be bad.
This is a mix of both, but I find this album to have a lot more going against it than for it. The main reason for that it is 80% of the album is buildup with very little ... read more
