Such a lush and charismatic album. The production is peak, the beats go unbelievably hard, the bars are SOLID TUNGSTON, and the features are wonderful.
My complaints are nit-picks that really don't matter that much, like not like some of the choruses all that much with some of the songs in the second half of the album, but it's such a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.
This is culturally inappropriate. 💯💯
This the arsenal of goons waiting outside my house when I'm trying to sleep and the "You may not rest, there are monsters nearby" text appears.
Wanted to cap off the spooky season with the SlipKnot goons. I originally wanted to do Iowa, as that is my personal favorite, but I'm going to save it for next year as it will be the 25th anniversary of that one next year. So the next best option was the debut.
I've always liked SlipKnot and I don't know why that is such ... read more
Very consistently good with a lot of great highlights. Brutal breakdowns, wonderful features, Bryans vocals, oh my!
Going through the band's discography backwards has been a very interesting experience, as it shows that they have embraced the disgusting, heavy sound as they got more popular. It's just neat to see :)
Had to check out at least one Ghost album during the spooky season.
I've tried to get into the band a few times with their latest two released, but I really didn't love the sound all that much as it felt a bit to sterile a safe. So, I decided to check out their most critically acclaimed album to see if my opinion would change, and, oh boy, it sure did.
Meliora rocks. A lot of what this album does is very simple compared to the modern metal scene, but in its simplicity comes a lot of ... read more

A pretty fun classic thrash album. I wouldn't put this in the upper echelon of other 80's thrash, but it sounds good and it gives you everything you would want from a record from this time period.
This thing is fucking WEIRD man. Even as someone who's really into progressive metal, I was still taken aback by how bonkers and downright weird things got in this album, primarily with the vocals, which is my major complaint. I do not like the robotic vocals at all and are very distracting. The growls are pretty solid though, so it's not all bad.
I'm hammering on the robot vocals a lot because everything else is pretty great. The instrumentation and writing are great and very ... read more
This album is the same vibe as you coming over to your friend's house, but your friend forgets to do the dishes beforehand and their mom whoops them while you stand there helpless.

Decided to come back to this one as I felt my original review didn't really reflect how I properly felt about this one.
I still don't like Near or Night People all that much as I fell their inclusion hurts the flow of the album. I don't hate them, but I always skip them when I relisten to this album.
The other 5 songs? Peak Deafheaven.
The way the band is able to infuse much more melodic sections into the music while still keeping the visceral edge to it is ... read more
Pretty sure the drummer is using a barrel of radioactive waste as the snare holy shit that thing is ringing.
Holy moly this is great. Really love how groovy and hefty this is, especially since it is the majority of what goes on in here. The noodily sections aren't overbearing and only really appear to transaction into another groovy section.
Mixing is great, performances are amazing, really one of the best death metal albums I've heard in the 2020's so far.
Brutal death metal that gives you radiation poisoning.
Really like how this thing is mixed. Guitars are chunky and the bass is nice and loud, giving this album a lot of weight behind each riff. Vocals are also really neat, reminds me a bit of Travis Ryan from Cattle Decapitation.
It's very solid, tried and true brutal death metal.
I had fun with this. It's not 50 minutes' worth of fun and a lot of songs sound the same, but I felt like the album matched my expectations for what I expected from a bbno$ debut: it's dumb fun not really meant to be taken seriously.
No, that doesn't absolve it from any criticism, but I don't think this is that bad.
You know that meme of the werewolf ripping his shirt off? That's how I feel when the chorus of The Diary of Jane hits.
I never really was a Breaking Benjamin fan, but I am a 2000's kid, and I do have a soft spot for this era of overly dramatic butt rock. It also helps that I think this album is genuinely well written and has really good performances compared to other radio rock at the time.
Yeah, Diary of Jane is the standout song of the album, but I had a pretty fun time with the ... read more
