I like to imagine this is what the Beatles sounded like to the silent generation.
Absolute parody of a bdm album right here, and it is really funny for about 10 minutes. Then it keeps going for another 39, and it gets old real quick.
Anything good I could say about gets drowned out by how long and repetitive this is.
I felt like a genius every time I recognized a sample.
Putting this in the, "cool for you guys, but not for me" category. I'm new to this genre, and even though I liked Dariacore quite a bit, an hour of a more extreme version of it is a bit too much for me.
It can really fun, but I just can't sit through it all the way in one sitting quite yet. There is a LOT going on and my initial listen left me overwhelmed in a bad way.
Again, I'm not really faulting the music ... read more
I can get that Dream Theater is not for everyone. James LaBrie isn't the best vocalist, the band devolves into a lot of wankery and they are pretty cheesy.
That said, yeah this is a 100 for me. I keep going back and forth on it, but I feel like I need to give it the score at the this point.
It's not perfect, but I wouldn't change a thing about it. Everything comes together so well and really creates this larger-than-life, theatrical (hehe) vibe you really don't see a lot ... read more
This was actually the first grindcore album I ever listened to. Can't believe I haven't rated this yet.
Quite the mashing of musicians and artists on here. It has the potential to really not work all that well due to the sheer volume of people working on this thing, but it actually came out really great.
A big aspect of it is due to how fucking angry the whole thing is. These fellas are MAD, and they let you know it.
The music is incredibly uncompromising due to that fact, as all ... read more
Really enjoyed Struggler, and I like this one a lot as well.
I think I like the highs of Struggler more though, and there are some really awesome bangers on there that get me MOVING, and that is kind of what I hope from music like this.
Still, this is really good with some wonderful, vibey moment with hard-hitting lyrics.
Currently in the lead for my favorite debut of the year. Such a raw, yet tasteful serving of metalcore, punk and other flavors of genre blending.
The vocals are killer. Everything from the spoken word sections, screams and cleans are all amazing. You also got some excellent mixing on the guitars, drums and bass. Everything is clear and crisp, but still wonderfully dirty and unhinged.
It's a wonderful helping of classic, unhinged core music, but adds in splashes of new ideas to keep ... read more
The band really needs to get their heads out of their asses and start writing more cohesive music. Each song blends into one another and not in a good way, they all just sound like wailing wankery.
Still, I like this much, MUCH more than their last two projects. There are some really awesome grooves as well as some neat genre blending stuff on here that works really well.
These fellas clearly know how to perform and write engaging stuff, they just actively choose not to.
Also, if your ... read more
I feel like such a fat fucking chud who hasn't showered in a week when I listen to slam. It's just so offensive, nasty and gross.
I mean this in an affectionate way of course.
Periphery is a band I really need to listen to more of. They've released some really interesting proggy stuff, and that really sounds like it would be up my alley.
As for this release, it's aight. The guitar work is definitely the highlight, and really the aspect the band really seems to lean into the most.
There are some really awesome grooves in here. I've heard that the band really likes writing Meshuggah-esk riffs, and I can definitely hear that on here, but it also ... read more
Another great output from Sabbath. Never really realized how much of a roll these guys were on until now.
Really love the doomier cuts on here, as the band really knows how to create a moody atmosphere. Wheels of Confusion and Under the Sun are some of the best songs I've heard by the band so far.
What else is there to say? It's Sabbath!
This is not the complete failure I expected it to be. There are actual moments of real solid, classic death metal on here. I would even go as far as to say that the vocals do have SOME moments where they work well.
It's still not very good, but hey, progress!
Really great unhinged energy. Really did how much weight is added to production, though I expect nothing less from Kurt Ballou.
I wish the album had more moments like the title track, as I found that to be the real standout moment. The rest of it is still really good though.
The title is a reference to how low my parents set the thermostat.
I mean, it isn't the most original thing, but it is really fun. Love the focus on groove on here, as them riffs be NASTY. I especially like the sprinkled beatdown elements on here, really making them stand out a bit more.
The feature list is also quite stacked. Gerard Way from MCR on a death metal album? Sure! Why Not?
One of my most anticipated releases of the year.
Panopticon is one of my favorite black metal bands. The mix of the harsh noise of black metal and the ethereal beauty of bluegrass is something really unique to this artist and it's always done really well, especially since it's one lad from Kentucky doing this (REPRESENT!!)
Yeah, it's another slam dunk. In fact, I'd say it's one of his best. For having some long ass songs, it feels really locked in and much more ... read more
