I feel like such a douche when I talk about 80's thrash that isn't Metallica, Megadeth or Slayer, because I always have a lukewarm reaction to it even if it is objectively good. Maybe one day the curse will be broken.
It's a good album, and I like how fast and to the point it is. Really is focused on smashing the listener's head in with nasty riffs and lyrics that hate the government. The production is also surprisingly great, as it tows the line nicely between sounding raw ... read more
Thanks to @HomeSession3 for the recommendation!
Pretty damn good debut from a group as small as this. It pretty much has everything I want from this genre: hard-hitting moments and production that doesn't pull punches, pretty solid melodies that break up the face-smashing breakdowns, and some real solid vocal delivery with some mix ups here and there.
The runtime is also the right length, as anything longer would have begun to overstay its welcome. There are 4 songs on here that do feel ... read more
Went to my local record store and they had this on vinyl for 250 fucking dollars. That alone made me check this one out, because that is absolutely insane.
It's really solid, and has some real hypnotic moments to it. That final song should not work as well as it does. There are some real incredible highlights on here that really hit you hard with some monolithic riffs.
I will say it doesn't quite have the same level of polish as there future albums have. This does meander quite a ... read more
A very challenging listen, but one that has a major reward behind it.
This one took me a few tries before I was able to sit through it all the way, and I think it's because you really need to be in the right mood for it. This album is long-winded and focused on creating a thick, moody atmosphere and then smashing you in the face with monolithic riffs.
On paper, it really shouldn't work as well as it does, but it's very hypnotizing, and on closer listens, these long-ass song ... read more

This one doesn't do a whole lot for me, as I love As Daylight Dies more, but this is really fun and has a lot of great moments on it. I tend to be pretty harsh on melodic metalcore, but I do have a soft spot for the pioneer bands of this sound.
Stank face city.
While I tend to find more enjoyment in the band's more recent works, where they include much more variety into their music, this is still fun as hell. This album focuses on pulverizing the listener with violent riffs, vocals and drums.
The album doesn't provide much more than that, but it really doesn't need to, as this album does violence VERY well.
This album makes me want to snort coke in a gas station bathroom.
Banger, after banger, after banger. This album's high energy personality is so infectious, creating an experience that fucking rules.
You also have some slower sections that work really well, as they break up the face pumping energy. However, they are far from being interludes, they also stand on their own as strong pieces to the whole.
Killer record. One of the best pop albums I've heard in a fat minute.
It's more of what I love about this artist. Real excited for the album coming out in May.
You guys don't drink beer because you're trying to stay sober. I don't drink because it tastes yucky. We are not the same.
(I really want to get blasted listening to this)
Extremely groovy. Them riffs are so, so good!
This is my first album by the band. I know they have a few classics under their belt, and they have a new vocalist here following Kelly's boot. Still, I wanted to start here especially since it's getting a lot of buzz.
First off, those riffs, God DAMN. I'm 50 pounds fatter than I was an hour ago, because they be HEAVY. However, there are plenty of gentler atmospheric moments as well, really giving this a lot of dynamic moments.
It also makes the long song lengths worth their ... read more

Info Dump is a real head-scratcher of a final song and really doesn't do the album any favors.

I certainly enjoyed my initial listen to this album, but I think this is one of those pieces where you really need to let it sit for it to really click with you, because this is wonderfully serene and atmospheric.
Like a lot of great albums in this genre, it's gorgeous while still having that vicious edge that makes it dynamic and interesting. I feel this is best shown in the title track, as it wonderfully combines these two sounds into a wonderfully moody piece of work.
I think what ... read more
I remember listening to this when it came out and really loving it. Coming back to it a few years later, and yeah, I still dig it.
The album has the right level of whimsey while still taking itself seriously. There is a wonderful line underscores walks that keeps it lighthearted and fun, but also emotionally vulnerable.
Really great album that deserves the buzz it gets.
Really dig this one. Reminds me a LOT of Blood Incantation.
Really big, larger than life vibe on here. Even with the more 'grounded' sounds this has, this has a lot of moments where things slow down, speed up and then melt your fucking face off.
That is probably the best thing about it. It focuses a lot more on dynamics and exploration rather than being really quick and blunt.
By the way, there is nothing wrong with quick and blunt, I surely have my fair share of albums that I love ... read more
This album makes me feel like the guy on the cover.
It's a very emotionally dense record, filled with a lot of raw and beautiful moments that really draws the listener into its heavy atmosphere. When it comes to the way this album sounds, from its harsh and soft elements, it' really nails the atmosphere.
The songs are quite long, to the point where I do think it meanders a bit too much in some sections, especially in the middle. However, if you're able to sit through it, there ... read more
