TALKING HEADS DEEP DIVE #1: 77
(I normally round my scores to the 5s but this was gonna be a 75 so I had to do the funny thing)
By some miracle, I have never really listened to Talking Heads in any meaningful way before this. Just a HUGE blind spot that I've had. I love bands who are influenced by them so I'm not sure how I've managed to avoid them for so long. I'm going to look back at the band's discography in chronological order! Yippee!
This record was great! ... read more
god I truly just do not care about this band anymore
I've seen so many people saying that this is Foo Fighters' loudest and punkiest album yet, but... is it? To me, this is just the most standard-fare Fighters album since Concrete and Gold. In fact, this album reminds me a lot of that one because of how apathetic I was to the overall sound. Foo Fighters truly are the default 'rock' band, and I thought over the last couple records they were actually doing some interesting ... read more
this record just hit me over the head. I hadn't checked out any Lizzy extensively yet, but I absolutely love this project. she is such a creative songwriter, and the highest moments of this album are just so enthralling. I just want to keep listening and unpacking it.
the melodies and lyrics are fantastic, and the production is next level. I absolutely love the difference in energy between 'doomsday' and 'an ego thing'. the guitars of 'orange show speedway' ... read more
this is fucking mind blowing. EP of the year so far, easy. unbelievable sound, incredibly creative songwriting. all of these tracks feel so fresh even after repeated listens. I love you florence road
this shit underrated as hell. muse gets weird but it is strangely mostly successful and quite good. let go, let yourself realize that this album is kind of awesome, and be free. you will be better for it.
The Beths are always such a fun band to listen to for me- I love how comfortable they are in their own sound. It makes the songs come across so much better because you can just tell how much they love making them.
Not every song here is made equal, but there are some serious highlights. Mother, Pray For Me is absolutely gorgeous and not at all what I expected, especially from a single. It is a shining example of this record's use of dynamic contrast, especially coming after the pop ... read more
Looking back on this album is fun because you can totally see what parts of these sessions that she brought to This Is Why. I love how daring and risky Hayley got here- you can tell she got to have a lot of fun with these compositions and it makes the record super fun to listen to, even with the experiments that don't totally work for me. I love this album and I can't wait to hear Ego in one way or another <3
Pretty good but had some weird moments, and some songs that just got old quick. June Guitar and Afterlife are fantastic though omg
I essentially took the first half of this year off of listening to new music, and now is when I go back and try to catch up on a lot of the big things I missed. This album is first. And holy hell, what a way to start.
My experience with CSH is pretty limited, and I know a lot of the band's fans are kinda disappointed with this record. From what I know about the band's earlier sound, I can definitely understand that, but I kinda just think this album was perfectly curated for me to ... read more
[edit: 70-95]: okay yes the enlightenment happened this is one of the best records of the decade idk what I was on. natural causes through casper is one of the best final acts of an album I have ever heard.

ok I can explain
Since its release, I have revisited this record several times, each time hoping so bad that it will click with me in the same way that it has for so many people. I have been in a pretty big new album slump this year (as you can see by the fact that ... read more
yeah this is like shockingly bad I am genuinely blown away what happened here
I can't think of an album that makes club life sound less cool. The instrumentals range from half-baked to genuinely awful, the lyrics are pretty much always outright terrible Franz Ferdinand or Arctic Monkeys core, and the vocal presence sells absolutely none of it. Not a fan, sorry gamers
Sabrina fucking killing the mid allegations
Sabrina Carpenter has had an amazing year with two of her biggest hits ever. So, as you can imagine, the expectations for this project were huge, but it hugely delivered for me. It's catchy, the production is hypnotically lush and warm, the lyrics are witty and fun, and the vocal performances are (for most songs) perfect for what they're going for. Some inconsistencies in track quality aside, this is a wonderful project.

I'M BACK! AND THIS ALBUM IS AWESOME!!
I took a big break from listening to and reviewing music this month because of a lot of things, mainly, MOVING! Now that I'm fully settled into my new place and my school semester has started up, it's time to get back to this. And what a record to return with! I knew that this had to be the album that brought me back into the music world- I have loved King Gizz for so many years, and I've been looking forward to this release like crazy ... read more
this album is really great and tbh I'm tired of pretending it's not
