just some songs that lose out on the fact that they share so much of their nature, which can cause a lack of depth. a lot of brilliant songs on here and I've listened to a handful of them for a long time now. im gonna listen to some Messiaen now
i value silence, here it permeates much of the work. some peaks, just a good abstraction of music that aligns with abstract expressionism in an interesting way, sometimes.
have listened to this 5/6 times this past fortnight. The ballades practically a perfect example of romantic solo piano (these are what im ranking). Pollini does a great job at catching you and holding you.
The first is nice and warm at times, building steadily towards a rewarding climax.
