thank you Shawn Cee for introducing me to this legend
yes most of these songs sound very similar. but it's only 20 minutes long so it doesn't get exhausting at all. all of the beats go stupid and funeral matches them perfectly. the three track run of fuckthelaw, itsovertoolate, and witdemkillas is absolutely legendary. admittedly I'm sad that none of his other projects have stuck with me the same way this has. that being said, quintessential hyperpop/underground rap album
lemme just get this one over with
might add to this eventually, but what can I say that hasn't already been said?
are the lyrics on this album cringe? sometimes yes. does it ever ruin the songs for me? not really, because the production is so creative and engaging and brakence has a wonderful, one of a kind voice that can kinda sell these lyrics. I do hope he changes up his writing style a bit as he grows as an artist. only one skip (track 7), and the 12th of 13 shit is very corny. but most of his best songs are on this album, and seeing him perform this album live only made it grow on me more
also I find ... read more
might make this review a lot longer in the future, but for now I'll just say this. this is one of my favorite rock albums of the decade so far, and to think this is the same artist that made Frailty is honestly astounding. her vocals have improved so much in such a short span of time, and her use of electronics and glitch are so engaging and satisfying to me, just like they were on Frailty. Jane really is one of the most talented musicians working today and I feel like these first two albums ... read more
I keep debating whether this is a 10 or not, but I think it is. at the very least it's a modern rap classic. but fuck I might even like this a little more than Piñata. this was my introduction to The Alchemist and instantly made me a huge fan of his. Freddie has never sounded better as a rapper and all the features are incredible and complement their respective songs perfectly. zero skips, all heat
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE WHERE WOULD YOU GO
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE WHERE WOULD YOU GO
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE WOULD YOU WANNA STAY HERE
this is crack music. this would also make for one of the greatest live sets of all time. no hate whatsoever to all of the other dariacore artists, but no one does this sound as well as Jane. everything is so detailed, jittery, and full of humor and intention. my favorite of the dariacore trilogy, and one of the most fun albums of all time. will be a future underground electronic classic if I have anything to say about it
I guess I need a negative review somewhere in my profile. let's start with this piece of horse shit. I'm genuinely shocked how Kanye manages to ruin so many of these songs. BACK TO ME would be solid if Kanye weren't on it, but he makes it unlistenable. HOODRAT is one of the worst songs I've ever fucking heard. I feel like I'm being generous with my score
inject this shit directly into my veins, I could live off of this album. one of the most beautiful voices in modern music put to some really interesting and engaging instrumentals. it is impossible to listen to this album without feeling great by the end of it. please never stop making music Sampha
I could listen to this woman sing forever. one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard, never want it to end
listened to these ICYMI deluxe vinyl songs to death on youtube. RIP to the owners of that vinyl who thought they were going to be exclusive, but I'm personally really glad they were officially released. they're not my absolute favorite songs he's ever released, but they're like one level below top tier EDEN. two amazing songs
okay hear me out
this album has crazy amounts of Bon Iver worship, so sometimes it can come off like "we have Bon Iver at home". and sometimes after listening to it I just play Bon Iver afterwards and am reminded of the difference in quality and detail and originality. also Same Day, Same Face is the most Justin Vernon worship I've ever heard in a song.
however, I still think he pulls off this sound really well and has a great voice for it. his falsetto is beautiful and calming and ... read more
only reason it's not a 10 is because the vocal distortion at the end of Shoot to kill, kill your darlings is too loud. other than that it's basically flawless. so cohesive and varied and FUN, fuck this album is so god damn fun. underscores is a generational talent and I can't wait to see what she makes next
the end of the bridge to the final chorus has made me tear up multiple times now. I haven't heard all of her recent album, but this clears everything else I've heard from her
why the fuck is this in the red? lemme change that, this EP is fire. I've been a fan of Lontalius since 2016 and this collection of demos helps illustrate why that is. his songs are sweet, emotional, and beautiful. his lyrics are personal, his melodies are catchy, and he does a lot with a little. I mean many of these are demos but still sound great. obviously Sleep Thru Ur Alarms is a soundcloud classic, but Pulling On is one of his best songs period. it was literally my top song on spotify two ... read more
found lontalius when he opened for EDEN in 2016. since then, he's been one of my favorite artists, even when his albums aren't the most impactful as total projects. they do feel more like collections of songs. that being said, I love the fuck out of this album. it's so sweet and gay and genuine and lovely and gay. also Selfless is the song that got me back into playing piano after years of not playing. still one of my favorite songs of all time with some of the most beautiful chords I've ever ... read more
first listen was like an 80. at this point I've heard it like 30 times and I cannot get enough of it. porter laced this shit with something, it is genuinely addicting to listen to
I cannot stop listening to this, whether it's individual songs or the whole thing front to back. it SOUNDS amazing, it's so visceral and beautiful at the same time. love the use of glitchy and ethereal electronics on this, like fuck it's so good. as of april, it's my favorite thing that's come out this year
