last boards of canada first listen before inferno dropped ! as expected, this was also very good ! definitely my least favorite of their mainline albums, but their floor of quality is so high that even my least favorite is still really good. I will listen to this again at some point soon, but for now, this just didn't have much that I'm really itching to come back to. just like with the campfire headphase, I expect this will grow on me with repeated listens. but for now, this does ... read more
fiinally listened to all of boards of canada's albums before inferno dropped ! this is just off of a first listen, and I can totally see this growing on me with repeated listens, but yeah this was very very good. it didn't have nearly as many super memorable moments as their first two albums, but there are no bad songs. I really don't have any big complaints with this, I just wish that more of it stuck with me. but I mean "music has the right to children" grew on me on ... read more
finally getting around to reviewing this ! underscores has been one of my favorite artists for the last 4 or so years. I started listening to her after I heard the hype for fishmonger. really great album, but she didn't truly steal my heart until wallsocket dropped. that might be a top 10 album of all time for me.
I remember sometime last year, before any of the singles released for U, that someone asked her what the next album was gonna sound like, and she replied with a picture of a ... read more
imagine being a fan of an artist who, over the course of several years, has only released two original songs. then he finally announces a debut album on FUCKING APRIL FOOLS DAY. of course I'm gonna assume it's a joke. turns out it's not a joke, he releases it on your birthday of all days, and it's excellent.
god bless tsubi club. I was kinda late to his stuff, meaning I learned about him right before he released 'laced up'. that song, and its accompanying video, ... read more
this is almost certainly my most listened to album of the year so far. it's quickly become one of my comfort albums, as I'm such a sucker for this indie folk sound. incredibly consistent, beautiful vocals. 'kill what you eat' is so far my most listened to song of the year, I just can't stop.
even though I love this album and I think it's wonderful, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't derivative of people like phoebe bridgers, especially in the vocals. I ... read more
ngl I kinda put this one off because the songs on glaive's two most recent albums featuring kurtains have been my least favorite songs on those projects. like I really don't like 'live and direct' at ALL. other than the glaive/kurtains collab songs, I'm not really familiar with kurtains' stuff, but I'll have to check out more of his stuff.
so yeah this was good ! 'y'all' is still his best album for me, and I figured this wasn't gonna live ... read more
the most I've enjoyed a funeral album in a minute. I will always love 'eviscerated', but nothing he's released since has come even close to that for me. and I haven't listened to every project he's released since eviscerated, but this is might be my favorite that I've heard since then. if not, it's still definitely the most interesting. I feel like he noticeably switched up his sound on this, like I've never heard him dive into electroclash like ... read more
somehow worse than honestly nevermind. when it’s not boring, it’s shockingly terrible
have you no shame, aubrey?
now this is even better than their first album !
I love how you can clearly tell it's the same band, but they made a pretty significant addition to their sound by adding strings and woodwinds and PEDAL STEEL. it all helps fill out their sound, and turn it into something that I happen to like even more than their previous album.
I need to talk about 'push you forever' because this song has consumed me. I fell in love with it on the first listen and I can't stop listening to ... read more
friend recommended me this slowcore band, and I really liked this ! can't pretend like most of these songs don't sound REALLY similar to each other. but if anything stands out, apart from the dual vocals, there's something about the chords they chose for many of these songs that I really liked a lot. nothing groundbreaking, but it doesn't have to be. just some solid, pretty slowcore !
WHY AM I JUST LISTENING TO THIS NOW, THIS SHIT IS AMAZING
just listened to music has the right to children for the second time, then listened to this for the very first time. this one immediately clicked for me, and I'm honestly not sure why.
what I can say is that all of the longer/non-interlude songs are pretty incredible, and they all hit hard. I also think that the interludes stuck with me more than their previous album. off the top of my head, 'dandelion' might be my ... read more
second time listening to this album, first listen was at least a couple years ago. figured I'd go through BoC's entire discography before their new album drops.
yeah this rocks. shoutout to the wonky angle for providing a great metaphor and visualization for this album, where he essentially said it sounds like you're getting lost on a field trip, for better and worse. it sounds like you're experiencing parts of your world that you didn't know existed beforehand. ... read more
STEREOLAB WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE
I've been forgetting to listen to this album, and stereolab in general, for so long now. I'm so mad at myself for taking this long to finally listen to them.
this shit is unbelievable man, I don't even know where to start. the mix of genres here is so incredibly my thing. the melodies are so sticky, everything sounds IMMACULATE. I love Lætitia Sadier's understated but super pretty voice. the horns, the strings, the layers of ... read more
am i going insane?
I was convinced to listen to this album because it was under the midwest emo tag and I love midwest emo. this sounds like someone trying to make fun of midwest emo.
it has every single stereotype of a midwest emo album. the stupid song titles are one thing. and it would be another thing if one song had a sad intro clip taken from a tv show, but EVERY SONG HAS ONE. EVERY SINGLE ONE. and obviously the singing sucks, but that's not the problem at all, that comes with the ... read more
going through all the albums I listened to in 2025 but didn't review !
I'm shocked I didn't review this when it initially came out. I was hyped for this album for like 4 years, ever since I found him in 2021. after years of anticipation, I can't say it disappointed at all. even though some of the songs aren't quite as great as others, this is just about everything I could've asked for from a debut album from kmoe. it still has that signature kmoe sound, but ... read more
just now noticing that this review will have VERY similar sentiments to my racing mount pleasant review.
I feel like I should like this album more than I do. on its face, this is one of the most beautiful albums of 2025, with a vocalist with a LOT of talent. but am I the only one that feels like most of these songs don't go as far as they should? not that need to be bangers or anything, but most of them hover in this mid-tempo, middling energy, when they should feel a bit more explosive ... read more
going through every album I heard in 2025 but didn't review !
I think every artist should take this statement as a compliment: "this album transports me to a different world". I've said this about plenty of albums that are so immersive that they take you out of your environment and put you somewhere else entirely. usually when I say that, I can at least describe the world said album puts me in. maybe it's a snowy forest or the depths of space. in the case of this ... read more
going through all the albums (or in this case an EP) that I listened to in 2025 but didn't review !
resident jane glazer back like I never left ! I'm so happy we got more of what was supposed to be the jane pop album. I had lost all hope, but man when that single announcement dropped, I died.
oh yeah I'm reviewing music. yeah it's fucking great. the new songs, "so what?" and "music baby" are both wonderful additions, with "music baby" being my ... read more
