Angel Du$t - BRAND NEW SOUL
65

Many have compared this band to Turnstile, but besides some of there more hardcore songs that have the same cloudy riffs and aggressiveness, the rest fails to have a concrete theme and sounds all over the place. Songs like Love Slam (that finds the perfect balance of being surfer rock hard core) and Very Aggressive (which is classic hardcore) have that LA abrasive sound and can be fun as hell to listen to but most of the album wants to base the album of the the first part and kinda sinks the ... read more

DDG - Maybe It's Me...

I’m here to spread hate, and say yeah this album right here is definitely the epitome of what it is to be a YouTube rapper, definitely an assterpiece. Someone somewhere said yeah let me put on the Im geekin pack and rizz in the car. Get this shit off my timeline.

Valee & Harry Fraud - Virtuoso
56

Definitely one of Valee’s weaker projects, Harry Fraud’s beats are really good here and his very wavy sound pairs well with Valee’s vocals but the lack of lyrical depth this time around makes him get outshined by his contemporaries. Once signed to Good Music, Valee always excelled at having an almost renaissance like flow over minimalistic trap beats that at the time is what made him one of my most anticipated rappers. Now after his first album he has not been able to fully ... read more

Lil Peep & ILoveMakonnen - DIAMONDS
34

One of the worst projects I’ve heard this year. You can definitely tell this was made in 2016 with songs like November sounding like a horrible version of any party song from the 2010s to Hocus Pocus having some of the worst vocals I’ve ever heard from Makonnen. I get that this was a project that was close to his heart before Peep passed away but it’s definitely something that was half baked and would’ve been better off not seeing the light of day.

Westside Gunn - And Then You Pray For Me
41

Stated to be his last album Gunn decided to give a go at making trap songs. Feature list was immaculate, sequel to one of the best albums out of the Griselda camp, and was pretty much responsible for Tyler the Creator to pick up rapping again. This could’ve been the making of something great but when you have songs like LL Bool Gunn and JD Wrist it makes you question is this really the same person who made Pray for Paris. MVP Stove God Cooks was able to channel the best out of Gunn in a ... read more

Hardrock - 1of1
73

This is more than just an Opium clone, Hardrock’s debut isn’t too different from a lot of his contemporary’s in what he offers lyrical but his sound gives a creative feel to the rage rap incorporated sound he’s going for. WA\VE sounds immaculate with 808’s set to max input over acoustic backing sounds really unique, and other tracks like Range/Era and 1of1 have beats that are very pretty with his vocals skating over the beat effortlessly.

Overall not too bad of a ... read more

Short Fictions - Oblivion Will Own Me and Death Alone Will Love Me (Void Filler)

Catchy, lyrics filled with emotionally raw emotion, instrumental surprises laid out throughout whole album. Songs like Reno Nevada, January 2020 and Wasting are perfect examples of infectious indie rock anthems brought to you by the looming threat that the world is done for but is gonna be one hella of a ride there.

Overall a great album and I’m excited to go back and listen to more of this band.

Nourished By Time - Erotic Probiotic 2

360 spins in the roller rink, this album wears its 80s influence on its back. A lot of this album sound wise definitely can feel like new wave R&B of the 80s with an element of nostalgia and freedom you’d find sitting in your room dancing in your dreamscape. Cloudy Synths, sweet baritone vocals, midtempo kicks, and misty like keys all surround this album and gives life to a special project I would not expect to come out this year. Definitely say this is one of the most underrated ... read more

Feels cliche to mention this but Cyberpunk 2077 at the time of writing this got a big update. Reason mentioning this is a mission in the game without spoilers allows you to explore underneath the ocean and explore the memories of one of the games npc companion and for some reason that whole mission felt more human in that cyberspace than any piece of media that I’ve read, watched, played, or seen in the real world in a long time.
I bring this up because this album by Singaporean artist ... read more

Young Thug - BUSINESS IS BUSINESS
65

Dropped while he was in prison, this album definitely sounds like it was phoned in. Metro’s version puts 3 of the songs I think are some of thugs best in a while in the spotlight but every other song on the album cannot reach that same height. Not much to say about this album but Thugger’s downfall needs to be documented because he was dominating the 2010s.

Veeze - Ganger
85

Words barely able to escape his mouth, with each line sounding like he isn’t even trying, Veeze compared to a lot of the other rappers in the Michigan rap scene can sound emotionless and uninspiring.
This is exactly why this album and his overall sound is so unique, because underneath his breath is an underworld of bars that could be someone’s caption of the year. Every line that I hear on this hookless album is insane.

Liv.e is unique artist in my catalog, CWTTY was a super underrated neo soul experimentation in the form of dreamy mantras, jazzy beats, and whimsical storytelling. GITHP is even more phenomenal as she takes what she did before and reshapes her sounds. Jazzy tones evolves with the help of some new snares, electronic sounds have been added to her arsenal creating unique sound in her R&B landscape. This album has someone many layers and I’m excited where she goes next.

Popcaan - Great Is He
48

Very Disappointing album, he adds nothing new and takes the route of lazily generic sounds, uninspired lyrics and dull Im great and came up from nothing storyline that has been done to death. His album WWCF was a reggae classic and it’s sad to see him fall this low.

Favorite Tracks: We Can Done

Worst tracks: rest of the album

BigXthaPlug - AMAR
72

For his debut in the genre of dirty south trap, BigX excels at great trunk rattling beats and soul pounding beats. Nothing new has been done here but is a very interesting debut.

Favorite Tracks: Bacc to tha Basics, Badu Flow, Rush Hour, Texas

Least Favorite Tracks: Thick, Bad Bitches

This album fucking shreds! The lead singers vocals is adds this certain dread to every song. Buildups feel like a horror movie where the villain wants to be a star and causes ungodly amounts of chaos to get there. Synths sound like nuclear explosions powered by the blood curling screeches and hellish drums. This album has some very cool songwriting that adds to the dread and disparity the lead vocalist portrays throughout the whole album. Overall this album goes hard and is one of the best ... read more

jonatan leandoer96 - Sugar World

Swedish artist Yung lean is a pioneer when it comes to sad emo rap, so on his side project where he decides to sound like he’s alone at a karaoke bar singing his heart out can be a bit charming and fun, but overall his singing doesn’t hit the mark the whole project.

Favorite tracks: Sugar World, Blue light, and Rivers of another town

Least Favorite: Open (Copenhagen Freestyle)

Young Nudy - Gumbo
75

Rappers making food related albums is nothing new and Nudy joining the party makes sense. This surprise release from Nudy as a wild assortment of beats that surprise me on each listen but don’t quite reach the heights of his previous projects. The verses on this project however were often times lazy or uninteresting with a few exceptions like Peaches & Eggplants and Fish & Chips where he sounds hard and sounds like he’s having fun. Overall a pretty solid project and ... read more

Listening to album for the first time brought me back to when 15. Back when I was so angsty and was waiting for the world to end but one thing this album reminds that I never did take the ideology seriously and this album is like a nostalgic look back at a much more free version of myself that I long for. Songwriting on this album hit me way too hard and reminds me of all the great times I had with all the people around me. “Bringing me moments where i can’t sleep” is an ... read more

“Aphex Twin for Niggas” - Zack Fox

No truer words have been said, this mixtape has a grade production and high energy. His flow and cadence are like candy to the ears, bounce at high speeds as if they were nascar drivers racing in space. Every beat has me smiling and grinning so hard I thought my face would freeze. Definitely top 5 album of 2022 and looking forward to what this artists brings in the future because his music is like no one’s else’s right now.

Popstar Benny - University!

Plugg is starting to become a guilty pleasure for me and this album is no short of bangers. Every song on here sound like a unique boss battle. Beats on here have either this chirpy bass, 8 bit like synths, and 808s that sound like they were drowned in an underwater level of Mario if the lvl was drowned in lean. Popstar Benny has some recurring characters like Tony Shhnow and Bear1Boss, but also new guests like 4pooch and 3AG Pilot who take the beat and form on them like it’s their own ... read more
