Nice chill, jazzy ,and almost Lo-fi hip-hop sounding instrumentals, nice lyrics, nice chill vibe and nice singing from features. Reminds me a lot of Isaiah Rashad's "Cilvia Demo". There were no awful songs, only one was weaker to me which was "Vanilla". The length of the album (10 tracks) was best for this kind of an album.
I remember when this was unreleased and Donald had been livestreaming it on his website. Upon that listen, I had really enjoyed it but I didn't realise how long some of the songs were. The slight instrumental switches didn't help them from feeling like a drag on my listens after release. I also didn't enjoy how most of the songs ended with near to dead air, it was unnecessary to me. Anyway, I really like the groovy vibes Donald Glover can give. The instrumentals are still quite basic though, bland Hollister/Indie retail shop music if you will. His vocals weren’t enough for me to save this album either. The vocal effects put on his ... read more
This was certainly good but not worth such a long wait.
I liked all the instrumentals apart from the one for “Ezekiel’s Wheel” and “Flux Capacitor” but that’s only 2 out of 10. The stock sound effects that appeared in some songs were a weird choice. Instrumentals had a more underground abstract sound which I liked. There was good lyricism and nice storytelling on here for sure. They definitely didn’t hold back on their vocabulary. I do agree that if ... read more
