Nirvana - Bleach

"I liked Nirvana before it was cool" - A loser Gen X person stuck in the late 80's to early nineties.

Ah Nirvana my favorite clothing brand that likes naked babies. They invented grunge apparently a sound that would dominate for the next two decades and at least to my limited exposure to that genre, I have yet to find the appeal. This debut album from the iconic band hasn't given me it either. I got no problem with the multitudes that fuck with this shit but I just ... read more

An enjoyable Acid House release. Had a good time raving to this one.

Recs:
- Ancodia

The Ocean Blue - The Ocean Blue

Some decent Jangle pop with a few memorable tunes that have a minor nostalgic quality to them.

Pauline Oliveros / Stuart Dempster / Panaiotis - Deep Listening

Some nice meditative ambience that brings me back to preschool nap time for some reason. I'm sure they played nursery rhymes and lullabuies instead of deep ambience, but listening to this takes me straight to the floor of the dark classroom in a uncomfortable mattress surrounded by my fellow four year old friends each pretending to sleep but all we want to do is play outside. This memory doesn't come up often so it's nice to experience it again.

Yeah if you like ambience then ... read more

X Japan - BLUE BLOOD

I know it's speed metal but I still gotta say it. Damn that drum is fucking going CRAZY on the track "X". Feel kinda sorry for the lad they must be sore after how hard they are going and for so long. Respect to all speed drummers it can't be easy to be that fast and accurate and sustaining that crazy rhythm for minutes on end. My arms and wrists are hurt just thinking about it. But that's because I have done a lot heavy lifting for my job recently. Shout out to ... read more

Felt - Me and a Monkey on the Moon

It's a pleasant yet uneventful listen that got pretty boring as it went along. I liked Budgie Jacket at least.

The Durutti Column - Vini Reilly

A pretty disappointing Dream pop release. I usually really vibe with this genre but this just didn't hit for me.

The Mamas & The Papas - If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears
80

Ah... To be in the times when California was something worth dreaming for...

There is just something special about the deep charm of sunshine pop of the mid sixties. The optimism and good vibes are so palpable I could kiss it. It's just so ridiculously charming that I so easily fall in love though the music is pretty basic and very much of it's time.

I know the sixties had A LOT of problems but the sheer idealism of the music tempts me to want to transport myself there and ... read more

Frank Zappa - Zoot Allures
80

Goodness Gracious. Only Zappa I swear.

Only he can make an album so sonically engaging and having THE MOST SUSPECT LYRICS like holy shit. This contrast only makes his artistry more interesting to me. Only Zappa can make me unironically like a smooth jazz tune with a woman moan all over the place on it. Shits crazy and I like it for some dumb reason. So if you don't play attention to the wild lyrics this album is a great time, and like me you can stomach the lyrics and enjoy yourself ... read more

Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet

Ah cheesy 80's Dad rock. A radio staple. I personally learned Bon Jovi's 3 major hits from guitar hero just to show how cool I was as a kid. The shit rocks then, and they rock now. Everything else seems pretty generic filler and bright nothing memorable to the table. Overall it's a fine album that's carried by it's classic soft rock hits that will be dad anthems til the end of time.

Recs:
- You Give Love a Bad Name
- Livin' on a Prayer
- Wanted Dead or Alive

lovesliescrushing - Xuvetyn

A generally uninteresting ambient album that feels bloated and slow. A couple of tracks saves it from complete mediocrity, but imo it's not worth the hour plus commitment.

Recs:
- Valerian (Her Voice Honeyed)
- Xarella Almandyne

Junior Boys - So This Is Goodbye

Some decent synth pop. Nothing crazy just a few good tracks.

Recs:
- The Equalizer

- Like a Child

Foodman - Ez Minzoku

Lol random 🤣

Plunderphonics when it's good brings you into a strange world that fills you with wonder. When it doesn't connect all I get out of it is the opener phrase of this review.

Miles Davis - Get Up With It
80

I originally skipped this album in my long term project due to me not getting Jazz in general, having mixed feelings with Bitches Brew which was my introduction to Jazz. ( Yeah that probably explains why I was hesitant about the Genre until I eventually grew to love it. ) And it's a two hour commitment. Well now I love Jazz, have given the bitch a second chance, and got two hours to kill til dinnertime. Now I ain't gonna give ya a play by play action cause neither of us got the ... read more

Pretty good ambience with a pessimistic perspective of the future is what I gathered from the soundscape and moody cover art.

Bleachers - Bleachers

I liked Alma Mater. Everything else was meh.

Four Tet - Everything Ecstatic

Anybody else feel a bit woozy?

I have spent almost half a decade immersed into the vaporwave world and all of its wonders but until today I have yet to listen to the most infamous one and the one that got the Internet's attention. I can't believe that it's been over 12 years the whole phenomenon still feels so good damn new, fresh, and ever evolving.

But you can't forget the classics so in listening to this legend of the internet space I am honestly impressed in how encompassing and varied ... read more

Graham Kartna - Ideation Deluxe

The Textbook definition of Weirdcore. This shit is so zany and off kilter and charming. I love everything about it to bits!

Besides my utter addiction to anything surreal and strange this genuinely is a good representation of this side of the internet where utter weirdos like me call music like this their Anthem. It's artsy unique and bold and unashamed. Everything is a spectrum and nobody knows anything so fuck it why do we pretend that music has to be so structured and boring. Get your ... read more

The Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request

While not as potent as I was hoping, The Rolling Stones side venture into Psychedelia mostly inspired by Sgt Peppers and the general Summer of Love culture permeating the atmosphere at the time is an adventure to be sure. They have some unique quirks here and there that does make it a worthwhile listen even if they made the right decision to stick to what they are good at in classic rock and roll. Still I appreciate the effort and we got a number of gems out of this as well so it wasn't a ... read more

"@ScottShelby As for what's next for Zappa since I have listened to most of his Acclaimed stuff besides a couple of TMOI releases In likely to finish off that bands offerings before down the road see what Zappa has to offer in his more contentious releases."

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda
"@AidenBowe45 Groovy, funky and takes you on a ride. I don't remember if it goes wildly off the track but I wouldn't be surprised if it did with an artist like Hancock at the wheel."

On Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei
"@AidenBowe45 I'm excited for whenever you do decide to listen to it, they put you on a wild ride that's the best of both worlds and reminds me why I regard Krautrock as one of my all time favorite genres to lose my mind to!"
On Eyeliner - Buy Now
"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."
On Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
"@RSmithFan What I meant was that this was the first album that felt like it was made in the eighties. Don't know why I phrased it that way either."
On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
