Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814
95

Other than the excessive and unnecessary interludes that some could just be the introduction of the upcoming track and nobody would complain, this album from my 80's crush Janet Jackson is straight up PHENOMENAL!

What a dynamic, fun, engaging, beautiful album that is such a must listen gem. Honestly the gorgeous craftsmanship of the production, Jackson's addictingly sexy voice, the VERY important message the tracks have. It all screams all time classic and should be listened to front ... read more

Pixies - Doolittle
50

Yeah the Pixies just aren't my band. Even their big acclaimed and accessible album does nothing for me.

Kate Bush - The Sensual World
80

Kate Bush.

A phenomenal legendary artist with a vast influence and inspiration on many others that want to be a part of the magic that she seems to live and thrive within. And with this album she curiously doesn't go all out like previous releases. Don't get me wrong the production remains fascinating and her voice downright majestic, but the experience doesn't pack as hard of a punch this time around. An adjacent but just as whimsical perspective is provided and it still ... read more

NoMeansNo - Wrong

Punk is at it's best when it's just fun to listen to and man are there good times to be had with some of these tracks. I got reminded of Dead Kennedys at times. Since they are my favorite punk band to date this is the highest compliment I can offer. There's parts of the album that get a bit redundant and kills the vibe I got especially on the B-side. Good thing the last track picks things back up to finish the album. Overall it's a good time with great punk instrumentation, ... read more

A soothing satisfying album that while usually has a nice if unimpressive atmosphere with some striking highlights that I wish more of the album emulated. Regardless it's a very solid ambient pop release.

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique

Fantastic production especially for the 80's. And while it took a few tracks for me to connect with, the chemistry amongst the group is absolutely electric. Wished the overall experience was a bit more consistent, cause the vibes do get wish washy as their ambitious sampling gets in the way at times. Still I consider this a solid release that could have been something fantastic if I connected with their artistry more.

Son of a Bitch. It's perfect.

Like this music is SO in sync with my preferences that it's not even funny. If I were to only pick any kind of music that I had to listen to for the rest of my days, I would most likely pick something like this breathtaking album. Holy, that was WAY too amazing I just can't. Pure magic I tell ya.

Djavan - Djavan

The nostalgic bliss of Frutiger Aero mixed with the rich charm of Brazilian Samba. Also I like his voice, it's very nice.

Been a second since I listened to music in this spectrum so it's really refreshing to be reminded why I enjoy it so thoroughly. I hope you check it out as well since it truly is a pleasure for the ears.

Coroner - No More Color

Good news! My phone randomly decided to recognize that it has headphones plugged into it again and I can hear the little details of music that makes me appreciate it more than otherwise. And with the power of close and personal detailed sound waves, I found the soundscape to be a lot less generic and more rich with clarity and details. It's like wearing prescription glasses for the first time. Your experiencing the same thing but from an improved perspective.

Sodom - Agent Orange

Seems pretty generic thrash to me. Standard stuff that didn't leave any significant impressions from me.

Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
55

One track worked for me but a lot of this album just passes me by and I got nothing to really say about them. It's an ok thrash metal album with fantastic drumming solid guitar work and a ok lead singer.

Recs:

Operation Ivy - Energy

This particular genre of punk is not for me.

Godflesh - Streetcleaner

Didn't connect with this one.

Two sides of my perception of this kind of music is fiercely fighting against each other. One side hates it and thinks the voice is grating and the instrumental too much. The other is too busy summoning the devil to tell me what they think. So yeah, mixed feelings on this death metal release. I somehow enjoyed some, reviled the rest. Check it out you can stomach intense metal.

The first half didn't do much for me but with me enjoying a few tracks on the B- Side, I may be starting to warm up to thrash just as I am leaving it's golden era of the late 80's. Better late than never as they say. Overall it's a pretty decent Metal album.

Recs:
- Some Pain Will Last
- Betrayer
- Don't Trust

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness

Pretty apathetic to this one.

Madonna - Like a Prayer

It's a decent release from Madonna. The singles are good but I sound the deep cuts pretty forgettable.

Plunderphonics in 1989??????

Yeah this shit is absolutely crazy in the best way possible. Coherence is maintained somehow within the chaos so this isn't just something to turn off your brain and enjoy type shit despite how it seems. Personally I had a great time with this and hopefully you will as well!

Skinny Puppy - Rabies

Another interesting release from Skinny Puppy. I only really enjoyed "Rivers" while the rest was something to passively gawk at then move on to the next thing that captures your attention.

Martin Gore - Counterfeit EP

It's an ok synthpop release. Nothing particularly memorable, but I did enjoy "Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth" so you can check out that song and see if you want to test out the full album if you liked it enough.

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."

"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
