Icky Blossoms - Mask

Listening to a number of albums in alphabetical order #16

Some decent Synth pop with rock elements and an industrial closer. ( I think that's what that is) It manages to stay varied and interesting, but unfortunately little grabbed my attention beyond intrigue. Not bad, and they got potential, but this doesn't quite hit the mark more often than not. Still I think it's worth a listen if curious enough.

A very ok indie pop EP from Wild Nothing. Does little to make itself distinct from its contemporaries and executes what's needed well enough. Not memorable but not irritable.

TOTO - Kingdom of Desire

Listening to a number of albums in alphabetical order #14

I saw TOTO and just had to check it out. I am only familiar with their classic Africa with its endless charm and nostalgia. I'll be wise to not expect something like that in this album but hopefully it's a good time.

It's some competent boomer rock. Nothing particularly special. I was enjoying myself at first, but it got pretty stale as it went along. It's tolerable if uninteresting by the end of the over hour long ... read more

In the mood for some DNB or Jungle or whatever you want to call it. Hopefully this satisfies the itch.

It's too fuzzy and distorted for my personal preference, but it does what it do good and there's an appeal to be sure. So while it may not be for me I ain't going to rag on it or anything.

Future Islands - In the Fall

I love fall. It's my favorite time of the year. I felt like I kinda had to pick this one.

Oof... Yeah I am not jibing with this one unfortunately. I don't care for the voice. The production is frustrating but the mixing is not good. Slightly irritating experience overall. I didn't enjoy this one unfortunately.

Alright we are at H and this lucky short 26 minute album caught my attention amongst MANY contenders. Let's see how it does with the attention I am giving it...

Ok the sounds I am hearing are very pleasant. I must say I got damn good taste that even bullshit random stuff I pick is still so satisfying to the ears. I like the soundscape. It makes my ears happy. It doesn't really offer much else than just satisfaction but ... read more

I always wanted to check out this Bastille album but never got around to it until now. While I am only aware of his hits, I have really enjoyed everything I have heard from him. Hopefully I find this one enjoyable.

I swear his voice is fucking everything. The synth pop production is professionally done to give the intended vibes. Yeah the lyrics may need an improvement at times but the damn melodies the cadence and confidence in how ... read more

Here we got an absolutely ok Indie Rock album. They do well but manage to be completely forgettable with how safe they are playing things despite the good execution. The cover art is cool but there's a problem when the cover leaves more of an impression on you than the actual music.

Daoko - Dimension

Up next we got a double D in Dimension by Daoko. I have to scroll for like a minute straight just to get to D I got WAY too many albums saved there's no possible way to listen to them all. Anyways this one caught my eye and have no idea what to expect so let's just dive in I guess...

Time for some King Gizz. I should probably just binge through their discography than picking a random album at a random point in time and listen to it cause why not. But eh it's been a while and I haven't been exposed to the psychedelic music they are mostly known for. Hopefully it's good.

Just finished. Yeah I would say they are pretty good at this Psychedelia deal.

I realized as I was scrolling down the hundreds of albums to get to the Bs that I literally skipped all the numbers and went straight into A. It's no big deal I can always do them at the end, but how did I even manage that?

We finally make it to the first letter of the Alphabet and to start things off properly we got the debut EP from a cute young artist named Hailey Knox this is my first introduction to this relatively humble artist. And for a debut EP this is a pretty impressive pop album. Her voice is very nice to the ear. The music goes from pop to jazz,to even RnB. This time we are highlighting both the period and unapologetic wonkyness cause it's time to listen to another Graham Kartna album. I really enjoyed their EP Ideation Deluxe. The Second installment of this side project has the upside down exclamation point. Which has landed on this 2006 self titled hip hop release from ¡MAYDAY! I randomly thought up a side project at work today to pass time in my break from the long term project that's on a hiatus til further notice. I have been getting into dark ambience recently and have consistently found it a fascinating world to dive into. So when I got to the tracks that highlighted that genre I was so into it. Not to say the other stuff presented is bad or mediocre, just stuff that doesn't fit my current obsessions. Like I am also really enjoying the Electro Industrial shit that's the focus of the soundscape a good amount of the album. It may be because I listen to a lot of music like this album, but I wasn't particularly phased by it. Sure it's satisfying and does everything well. But to me personally this album kinda sticks to the standards of chillwave, triphop, and what have you. If you gave me this album and told me to guess who made it I certainly would not know how to answer. I would definitely not guess Ghostminus. An enthralling experience that has to be heard to be believed. I want to live in this album it just feels like home. Slow dreamy metal like this is certainly something new and interesting for me. For my first impressions on this kind of metal I find it pretty hit or miss mainly because of how slow and time consuming it can be. I either am immersed into the magic or am tirelessly waiting for the ten minute track to be over already and I am only four minutes in. Overall it's decent enough, but I can see an album of this subgenre REALLY connecting with me so I am looking forward to wherever that may happen. ... read more

On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
