Foodman - Shokuhin
65

A strange fascinating early vaporwave and plunderphonic album full of wacky zany bullshit that's sure to confuse and intrigue. Definitely not for everyone but hey if you want a weird journey why not check this album out.

Recs:
- Night Communication
- Yume Kikou
- Made in Japan
- Ikimono
- Desert Road
- Ice Ber
- Monster Story
- The End for TV

Bloodbath64 - Aestheticadelica
55

Apparently this is a vaporwave side project from TV Girl and I am not the biggest fan of theirs and this release didn't do anything to sway my feelings. It's ok I guess but very forgettable. I liked the track "Ugly Butterfly" but everything else is an easy skip you aren't missing anything by not listening.

Spyro Gyra - Carnaval
90

Jazz Fusion continues to be absolutely GOATED. Haven't heard a single miss since I learned the appeal of the album. Could listen to this shit all day!

Recs:
Everything except the opener which didn't hit for me for some reason.

Bill Evans - Portrait in Jazz
70

I'm feeling jazzy so I checked out some classic stuff from way back to see what People Biden's age were enjoying when they were my age. And I landed on this release from good O'l Bill Evans and yeah it's some nice classy cool jazz that does what it do well. If you are into the genre you should find this an enjoyable listen.

Recs:
- Autumn Leaves
- When I Fall in Love
- Peri's Scope
- Spring is Here
- Some Day My Prince Will Come
- Blue in Green

Kavinsky - OutRun
55

Nightcall is a synthwave classic but unfortunately I found most of this album pretty unimpressive. I appreciate Kavinsky's influence of one of my favorite genres, but I mostly didn't care for the music he put out at least for this album.

Xenon Masters - skyline deluxe
60

Some decent vaporwave that keeps things to a safe standard with a few tracks that still hit for me regardless of the fact mentioned.

Recs:
- Caramel
- Soft Party
- Crystal Lights

EMBA Soundsystem - Darkness of Tomorrow
75

Some nice meditative ambience that's easy to get lost in. The thirty minute experience is both not enough and very fulfilling. Had quite the crazy daydream with this bad boy.

Mandy, Indiana - i've seen a way
55

A... Unique album. Don't know what the fuck is going on most of the time but a couple of the songs did grab my fancy so there is that. Yeah this was certainly an experience.

Recs:
- Love Scene (4K VHS)
- The Driving Rain (18)

Hotel Pools - Nature
70

A bunch of simple serene ambient vibes to chill out to. Simple, to the point, and effective. Just how I like it at times including right this moment. It's a less than thirty minute commitment and Hotel pools packs a good amount of stuff into it. So why not take a step outside and enjoy the beauty and blessings that mother nature has gifted us graciously and wordlessly.

FM Skyline - Images

I love expanding my horizons and getting out of my comfort zone but there's also times for the musical adventures to be put to rest. Everyone has their comfort music and synthwave/vaporwave is mine. I just always find myself defaulting into the soothing nostalgia and general vibes of these genres and similar ones that brings up the same feelings. Theirs various artists that I go to as I discover more of my favorites. One of them being FM Skyline. They usually keep things pretty standard to the ... read more

Gov't Mule - Revolution Come … Revolution Go

What a thoroughly engrossing blues rock album that's fully worth the hour and ten minutes commitment. A true hidden gem that more should listen to!

Jungle - Loving In Stereo
70

I like many others were introduced to Jungle through the viral video for the infectious song "Back on 74" I found their latest album to be a great time as well. They even stole the show for me when they played at Coachella earlier this year. A song of theirs has been stuck in my head recently so I decided to go ahead and check another album of theirs while I am in the mood for it.

Loving in Stereo displays the joyful disco atmosphere jungle is known for with its rich production and ... read more

Fifty Foot Hose - Cauldron
75

With its far out thirty second soundbytes and damn solid Psych rock this album from the heights of the hippie movement is a time to be had! Sure the soundboard is very of its time but it does the job well, and they remain interesting to say the least. The rock is as timeless as ever so I'm sure you'll enjoy parts of this unique experimental album of 68. I sure had a good time with it.

Recs:
- Opus 11
- Red the Sign Post
- For Paula
- Rose
- Fantasy
- Cauldron

Brilxonic - Midnight's Edge
50

Some ok Downtempo Electronic shit. Would vibe to it in the club, but nothing about it is sticking with me when I head back home.

Emanny - Crawdad
70

I'm getting old what does it mean to call someone a crawdad? I'm not up to code on the teenage slang and if this word s swirling around that demographic without my knowledge then I may be getting ever more disconnected with the kiddies as I embrace my mid twenties.

Oh yeah there is a song that I should review. Emanny is at it again with the smooth flows, slick rhymes, and a laid back non serious goofy vibe that seems like a lot of fun to be a part of. This is a fun track and you slaughtered ... read more

Axolotl - City Of Silence

Thanks Remi for letting me know about your latest release.

Ambient music in general I am a bit particular about. It can't be too slow or sparse, nor should it be anything that gives any sort of energy that stirs anything beyond intrigue and curiosity. The vibe and atmosphere is very important as well as some variation to keep the experience fresh and engaging. Like water everything has to flow into each other effortlessly lest I would easily be taken out of the immersion. Plus there's me just ... read more

Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

This record is bigger than my petty irrelevant rating of it based purely on how fun and engaging it is to listen to according to my individual biases. Shits great and it's got a big time message to serve to whoever is listening. As big and appraised this album is on this site and others like it, it remains an underrated classic that needs to be heard and understood more.

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden

An immaculately crafted masterpiece created to be as blissful to the ears as possible and it somehow achieves everything it set out to do. Easily one of the best releases the 80's has to offer and a classic that has been and will bring vast inspiration and essays to multiple aspiring artists around the world. What an album, the hype is there for a reason.

If only "Desire" hit just as hard as every other track then this would be an easy 100 and my decision for 1988 AOTY would become ... read more

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

A mostly tedious experience with a gem or two that may be nice in the moment, but just aren't enough to make the over hour listen worth it.

Recs:

Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

That's surprising. I wasn't feeling a Iron Maiden Album. Yeah I liked the title track well enough but everything else breezed by with nothing to show for it. Usually I am pretty engaged with these guys at minimum but it just didn't connect this time. Can't win them all I guess...

On Black Sabbath - Paranoid
"@frogofprog of course, all the songs listed in the review are great including the all time classic in War Pigs. I just think as an album experience as a whole it could be a bit better."

"You are in for one hell of a ride if you're going to listen to it all the way through at once! Well worth the six hours of investment."
On Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
"@ScottShelby As for what's next for Zappa since I have listened to most of his Acclaimed stuff besides a couple of TMOI releases In likely to finish off that bands offerings before down the road see what Zappa has to offer in his more contentious releases."
On Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

"@musicfanboy You looked into that more than I ever cared to so I guess? I don't know. I do generally find slowcore rather boring to slog through, so your probably right."
On Terry Reid - Terry Reid
"@AidenBowe45 He reminds of Paul McCartney at points with how passionately he sings and the instrumental goes crazy. It's a fun album for sure!"
On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda
"@AidenBowe45 Groovy, funky and takes you on a ride. I don't remember if it goes wildly off the track but I wouldn't be surprised if it did with an artist like Hancock at the wheel."

On Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei

On Eyeliner - Buy Now
"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."
On Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
"@RSmithFan What I meant was that this was the first album that felt like it was made in the eighties. Don't know why I phrased it that way either."
On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
