Orange Juice - You Can't Hide Your Love Forever

What a Frutiger Aero ass cover. We still in the 80's dude, this esthetic ain't supposed to be big until the 2000's neon and big hair is the shit these days. Quit predicting the future and stick to the program!

I love me some soft rock or " jangle pop" apparently I just hear good music from a damn good band. The appeal is very straight forward and accessible which surprises me why this hidden gem isn't given more praise than it already has. The David Bowie esqe singing, the guitar, ... read more

Steve Reich - Tehillim

While definitely not as riveting as an experience of 18 musicians, it still is an interesting listen to say the least. While it's nothing that's must listen You can check this out if you want more Steve Reich since it's still quite the rich listen experience regardless.

The Gap Band - Gap Band IV
60

While I live for the funk as much as the next guy the only two songs that got me down and dirty was " You Dropped a Bomb on Me" and the closer "Talkin' Back" everything else was fine but nothing all that memorable at least to me.

Mecano - Mecano
70

Sometimes you just want some easy to enjoy synthpop album to have some fun to. This album while not being the greatest example of the genre, it still has a good amount of that classic 80's pop sound but in Spanish this time. I like this album overall even though it's really nothing all that special.

Yellowman - Mister Yellowman

What's the difference between dancehall and reggaeton? Cause this sounds like just another reggaeton album to me.

Pretty good tropical music this is to warm the cold soul this December. ( Unless your below the equator, otherwise Happy Summer!🌞) There's nothing here that surprises, but what's here is still executed very nicely by the Yellowman. So if your ready for a tropical vacation at this time check out this album!

Pigfuck huh. That's a new one. I wonder if anyone answered this Charming genre when asked by a stranger trying to break the ice?

The record is mostly more of the same whatever punk rock that I don't care much for. Sexbomb tho? Now THAT'S a certified pigfuck banger. Needs more pig squeals tho.

Thank you TikTok for showing me this video so I now know of this amazing throwback band's existence!

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRvWHpPQ/

Because of the TikTok I was expecting some very nice hippy folk music that will be a beautiful listen but nothing revolutionary. What I got from this album instead WAS MOTHER FUCKING EARLY BLACK SABBATH 2.0 HOLY FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

I got everything from this album saved to my liked list cause all of them fucking rule! Only reason ... read more

Lou Reed - The Blue Mask

It's been a while so I may be misremembering but this is the first time I have heard Lou Reed and have thoroughly enjoyed the album all the way through. Now there's a song or two that felt a bit flat for me, but DAMN is this good!

Everything is done from the production to the instrumental, to the lyrics, to the tone, to the pacing, to Lou Reed's singing. It's all so professionally done with no flaws that stick out. I felt the need to stand up and clap in appreciation of the expertise presented ... read more

Falco - Einzelhaft

A decent synthpop album from Austrian singer Falco.

I read that a couple of the songs namely "Nie mehr Schule" and Helden von heute" borrow from David Bowie songs "Speed of Life" and "Heros" and the album in general is highly inspired by the music legend.

So while it's no Bowie it's still a decent listen with particular highlights being "Auf der Flucht", the already mentioned "Helden von heute", and the closer "Einzelhaft". I ... read more

Simple Minds - New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84)

Very generic new wave that I feel that I have already heard about a hundred times already. At least there's "Somebody Up there Likes You" which is a good instrumental track.

Alice Coltrane - Turiya Sings
50

Is she the wife of John Coltrane or a sibling Or are their last names being the same just a silly coincidence? I know I could just Google this but what's the fun in that?

It's basically an hour of ambient tones with Alice singing in Hindu ( I think) over them for an hour. It's relaxing generally but critically it gets old rather quick.

中森明菜 [Akina Nakamori] - プロローグ〈序幕〉[Prologue]
65

Screw K-pop I am J-pop 4 lyfe!

Pretty solid stuff from the young star Akina Nakamori. Her voice is already matured and beautiful. And the production is always on point. I loved it when the guitars have their moments of shine. While a good amount of the album is just fine there's a few songs particularly at the very strong start and finish that are quite remarkable listens. It isn't the best album I have heard from this genre but there's enough good stuff within it to make it a worthy ... read more

Interesting combination of tribal percussion and new wave. There's some really great highlights in this album but generally the execution is just fine for me. Not bad at all.

Holy shit that opener had me all kinds of messed up. I was literally saying " what the fuck?!" "Holy SHIT!" "OMG!" "WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" "FUUUUUCCCCKKKK!!!!"
To say that it's a must listen is an absolute UNDERSTATEMENT! You NEED to listen to this shit holy fuck that was insane!

The rest of the album never reached the insane heights of the opener but everything is still damn solid at worst.

This is in my opinion a MASSIVE improvement over their ... read more

Not Marshall - Selected Atmospheric Beats 01

A very nice collection of beats you got here Marshall!

Tres, Quarto,Cinco, Siete, and Diez are the standouts to me. I really enjoyed the unique atmosphere and vibe you placed for each track giving everyone of them a standout identity. While it would be great to have some of these ideas expanded apon and maybe have someone sing or whatever over them to make these beats into a more complete song, I am happy with what is presented here to have that not really be necessary despite how it would be ... read more

Thank you @GameJunkyard for recommending me this album.

I honestly probably would have a way better view of this album if I paid attention to the lyrics. Cause on the few songs that did captivate me enough to pay attention I was thoroughly engrossed on the storytelling. But alas I am a sucker for productions and all too often ignore the heart of what makes many songs as good as they are.

So with that in mind I still had a decent time with this with the main gripe being that a good amount of ... read more

Gabe Lee - Drink The River

Nashville radio is a disgrace for not boosting THIS kind of country. I swear they have shot themselves in the foot so many times that country in general is massively dismissed these days which is a shame when there's genuinely good music from that genre that unfortunately gets overlooked because of the bias and stereotypes slapped onto the genre by people that only were exposed to the admittedly BAD music that gets knocked over the general publics head over the past decade or more.

Thanks @GameJunkyard for recommending this album to to me!

The best way I can describe this is if Masayoshi Takanaka was Latino. This is such a feel good album that's stupid consistent and enjoyable all the way through. I can't help but beam with a genuine smile with this fantastic music! The critics are absolutely based for rating this so high, and I am very happy to be made aware of this SUPER underrated gem of an album HIGHLY recommend you check it out!

On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
