Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
75

According to the list Aggregate this is the AOTY.( Edit: well at least it WAS when I initially typed this out.) And while I am a fan of Caroline and have enjoyed a few songs from this album back when it first came out I found most of the album a bit underwhelming based on my expectations from past favorite songs from her and what I knew what she was capable of. Also I was a fresh baby that just discovered this site and this album being at the top of the new releases page was the reason why I ... read more

Shorewood - lo único que quiero

Thank you Nathan for asking me to check out your new single. I like the juxtaposition of the pretty Spanish melodies with the absolutely wild 8 bit synths and the other effects you have used. It makes for quite the interesting listen. While the production is the star of the show for me since I don't speak the language, I can tell that you have been working hard on your singing skills since they are very refined and confident. All in all I really enjoyed this tune and have added it to my ever ... read more

Blood Tower - Cryptic Nonsense

Local Janitor discovers dungeon synth and gets addicted.

So here I am just scrolling through the rabbit hole of the tiktok-esqe "Similar to your taste" deal on Spotify so I can continuously expand my horizons and a song from Blood tower came by and said hello. I immediately responded by asking that song to marry me. Now they won't respond to my multiple texts and calls for some reason.

I binged their entire discography today with no intention of reviewing anything so I could be ... read more

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour

"It doesn't have the conceptual unity of Sgt Peppers"

Uhhh... DUH it's more of a whimsical trip than a formally structured album and it's fucking amazing.

( Oh also I relistened to Sgt Peppers again to see if I get it and yeah I get the hype now. I may remaster my review of it later today or tomorrow morning.Hell I may even do the white album if I feel spicy. NAAAAAAH, I'll just do it with Revolver the next time I need a Beatles fix. Spoilers tho I still like this album more than ... read more

Slowdive - Pygmalion

They really do take the slow part of their name seriously.

This is a very slowly paced album that focuses on a serene atmosphere with beauty permeating the air with cherry blossoms. I felt very much at peace while listening to this album. While I prefer albums that have more substance, these kind of albums do have their place and when in the right mood they can be more effective in making you float away than you were expecting. This isn't god's greatest creation or anything, but it ain't bad ... read more

twelfth - the crow

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates!

I just had two large plates full of my mother cooking, and am in bed half asleep and a bit out of it. So it's a perfect time to review @twelthcard album " The Crow" by lil chilly.
Due to my current condition I ain't doing anything in depth. So I will be back after the album with overall thoughts and highlights.

About 40 minutes later...

It's decent.

I liked the opener and "needs". The song "ignition" felt a bit too ... read more

高中正義 [Masayoshi Takanaka] - THE RAINBOW GOBLINS

I officially have my second Guitar God.

This guy just refuses to miss. It's insane just how consistently amazing Masayoshi Takanaka is. I adored every single second of this album and it's honestly a debate if it's his finest. I loved his other perfect album "T-wave" just as much as this masterpiece. They are both SO FUCKING GOOD!!!

I am tempted to snub King Crimson for a third fucking time but man would that be unfortunate. But this album is 120% AOTY material as well. Fuck it. ... read more

Franco Battiato - La voce del padrone

*Shrugs* I got nothing out of this.

Los Jaivas - Alturas de Machu Pichu

Some decent prog rock/folk. Nothing too impressive overall. I really enjoyed how it started with the first two tracks being absolutely fantastic. Then other than "Antigua América" the rest of the album wasn't up to par for me. It's decent but nothing that'll blow your socks off.

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Juju

Patti Smith??????
*Immediately looks up members of Siouxsie and the Banshees*
*Doesn't see my girl Patti*
*Sad*

Seriously Siouxsie sounds JUST like Patti. It's almost uncanny. Just because of this fact I'll probably enjoy this album more than what's fair. Only if they capture that Patti Smith magic tho. If not then it's getting the same treatment as any other album.

The opener was fine but didn't leave much impression. I enjoyed the guitar and general instrumental of "Into the ... read more

Rush - Moving Pictures

EASILY their best work that I have heard yet!

I may be stupid and have not noticed with any of their other work, but DAMN the instrumental on this Album is just so fucking amazing! The singing isn't obnoxious this time either! I loved the mixture of prog rock and synthesizers to make for a captivating and futuristic atmosphere. This shit fucking rules! Highly recommend this album especially the tracks that I recommend.

Favorites:
- Tom Sawyer
- YYZ
- The Camera Eye
- Witch Hunt

Makoto Matsushita - First Light

I loved September Rain and ADORE the closer Sunset. Everything else didn't leave much impression to me.

矢野 顕子 [Akiko Yano] - ただいま。 [Tadaima.]

I can only find a video with the full album so I have to listen in to find where to cuts between tracks are. I may not be perfect but here goes nothing.

Second track
Fourth track
Fifth track

These tracks offer some fun j-pop with some Kate bush-esqe flair and some surrealism to keep things interesting. This wasn't what I was expecting coming into this album but it was a welcome surprise!

The sixth track is really interesting. It goes to many places and definitely needs multiple listens to ... read more

Yellow Magic Orchestra - BGM

"Happy End" needs to be part of a liminal space playlist cause damn does it fit that vibe SO well!

Another striking highlight is the beautiful ambient track "Loom" which knows the rule keep it simple stupid and takes the listener into a wistful journey amongst the floating clouds to finish off this album.

Everything else was fine and didn't do anything offensive but lacked anything that got me really into what they were offering.

It's an ok album, but I know they can do ... read more

King Crimson - Discipline

Man it's been SO long since I have listened to a King Crimson Album that when I heard "Red" It was amongst my earliest reviews soon after I made the commitment to review everything I listened to back in mid June. Looking back at those early reviews they honestly weren't as bad as I was expecting. (Some were simple sentences but they surprised me in how comprehensive in how I overall thought of these albums. I may still need to remaster these early reviews since some don't do the ... read more

Kraftwerk - Computerwelt

Kraftwerk is back and better than ever!

Honestly this might be their best work to date! They have finally updated their sound to "modern" standards for 1981, and the music is a lot more engaging than their last couple of LPs. When I first listened to their LPs "Autobahn" and "Radio Activity" I was truly impressed with how they utilized early synths to create such a grand futuristic atmosphere, and they manage to strike a third time with Computerwelt! They are back ... read more

Wipers - Youth of America

@FritoRio was wrong, this is boring like any other post punk album.

Mission of Burma - Signals, Calls and Marches
55

It's post-punk so I didn't get anything out of it other than the closer "All World Cowboy Romance". Other than that great track more of the usual bleh in reaction to the mid (imo) music.

Grace Jones - Nightclubbing
55

It may be because I was half asleep but the first half of this album didn't leave much impression. And when I got fully awake only "I've seen that face before (Libertango)" and "I've done it again" caught my attention. I may be a bit unfair but this wasn't as interesting as Grace's last effort. It's decent but does little to engage the listener.

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda

"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
