吉田美奈子 [Minako Yoshida] - LIGHT'N UP

Decent city pop/ disco/soul album. It starts off pretty strong but kinda falters on the b-side not for the lack of trying. I just didn't connect with those songs. Check out the recommendations at least they are good.

Laurie Anderson - Big Science

One of the most mesmerizing and kinda trippy experiences that I have ever witnessed. Everything was masterfully done from the excellent utilization of synths to the clear and potent spoken words. It's such a strange and unique listen that it's almost alien at times. The pacing is immaculate and there's always something interesting going on. A perfectly crafted masterpiece full of unforgettable tracks that I will listen to MANY times for years to come. While every song has a unique quality that ... read more

It exists I guess.

XTC - English Settlement

The album Starts of pretty well with me enjoying "Runaways", "Senses Working Overtime", and "Jason and the Argonauts". But then it gets pretty boring pretty fast. It doesn't help that this is a double album that doesn't nearly have the diversity needed to keep the engagement levels up to par all the way through. Overall it's a pretty disappointing album with a decent start but never really did anything particularly exciting.

Oingo Boingo - Nothing to Fear
65

While Oingo Boingo keep their goofy identity, they infuse some good ole ROCK into the equation to ground the silliness into a more accessible soundscape. This makes some of the songs pretty damn enjoyable while others are still a bit much for me to buy into. Overall it's the best that I have heard from this unique band and I hope they continue to improve upon this formula whist adding some spices to keep things interesting.

While I appreciate the creative choices made for this album they didn't peak my interest unfortunately. This album is unfortunately a miss for me.

Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Hey look it's a Judas Priest album it's Been awhile. I just checked and it was August 21st when I last reviewed "Stained Class" so it's great to see my favorite Early Metal band not named Black Sabbath come back. They have had a number of bangers so far and with what's supposed to be their Breakout Album I expect a number more Headbangers to add to the list out of this LP.

After the riffy intro the Album dives into Electric eye. It's talking about some robot spies that we the people ... read more

The Damned - Strawberries

Easily my favorite The Damned album. I listened to the deluxe version and the extra songs really helped make this a more complete experience. There's surprisingly a lot of variety and creativity happening here and I am all for it! If the appraised early punk albums were this exiting and interesting to listen to then I would have a better opinion on the beginnings of the genre than I do. But with this album and some of the other recent for early 1980's standards pink albums I think the genre is ... read more

Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel

Other than the kinda underwhelming "San Jacinto" and I have the Touch" this was an amazing album with some of the most engaging production that 1982 has to offer. Peter has an impressive vocal performance throughout as well. This album is can't miss and has many songs that are just begging to be listened multiple times the soundscape is so rich and Interesting. Highly recommend you check this amazing album out!

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Imperial Bedroom

He must have heard me complain that he's getting kinda boring and went all 1967 Beatles in response.

Now this is definitely not up to the quality of said 1967 Beatles but honestly it's pretty hard to find anything that IS at that insane level of creativity. What is presented here is still quite the interesting and expansive soundscape that is sure to keep you entertained all the way through the 50 minute runtime. It's like an updated version of Sargent Peppers for the 1982 soundscape. Again ... read more

Duran Duran - Rio

When I think of the 80's some of the first songs that come to mind are "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf". The iconic synths and beats that this album is full of is just welded into the 80's identity that we remember fondly of forty years later. The music has aged like a fine wine and is still such a fresh sound. Not all of the music is as memorable as the two iconic hits, but the majority of the album is still a quality listen that's loads of fun to dance along ... read more

Laurie Anderson - O Superman

Thank you TikTok for bringing awareness to this masterpiece!

I will never not be absolutely entranced by synthetic voices singing to me. It's the mix of humanity and the artificial that brings up a surrealism to me and I just get hypnotized. The production is minimal but damn does everything including the repetitive "ha ha ha ha" just do their job SO well! The music video is just as intriguing and I highly encourage you to watch it! What a phenomenal track that will honestly hold a ... read more

Misfits - Walk Among Us

This is the fast furious and rowdy punk that is more tuned to my personal preferences. I like the sound even though it gets pretty samey after a few tracks. The rebellious spirit is great but I don't think there's enough spunk and ferocity here for me to believe that they will be too much trouble. Nice effort here, but I have heard this done better.

Dire Straits - Love Over Gold

OMG THAT FUCKIN OPENER THOUGH!!!

Man I wasn't expecting an album THIS great out of Dire Straights I didn't know they had it in them to do one of my absolute favorite Genres Prog Rock this much justice! This album is insanely amazing and while the opener is on a level few tracks in general ever reach the rest other than the slightly underwhelming closer are not far behind. This album is an absolute MUST LISTEN especially that jaw dropping opener that still has me shell shocked. Phenomenal ... read more

Roxy Music - Avalon

Very enjoyable 80's soft pop album. It's almost sensual how smooth this album is. It still remains a lot of proper class whilst teasing you with those sexy saxophones and sensual synths. I'm very charmed by this album. So much so that even though critically it's a good Album that doesn't do anything particularly great, I still highly recommend you check it out.

Thank you Remi for asking me to check out your latest single!

Unfortunately I agree with @God2 in that this is pretty one dimensional and isn't anything that grips my attention. It's a decent song that's inoffensive in the background but there's nothing about it that begs me to check it out for any further listens. Decent stuff but nothing that stands out.

中森明菜 [Akina Nakamori] - バリエーション〈変奏曲〉
55

It starts off pretty strong with "Cancel" and "Moroi Gogo" then falls off to mediocre pretty fast and fails to recover unfortunately. Akina does well and the production is strong but the result isn't anything all that interesting or engaging. It's too pretty and perfected for me to care if you get my drift.

The Church - The Blurred Crusade

I enjoyed the last two songs, the rest was underwhelming.

The Alan Parsons Project - Eye in the Sky

It's fine. A bit disappointing compared to how enjoyable "The Turn of a Friendly Card" was. Generally there wasn't anything bad perce but this album really struggled to find anything that lifted my spirit past neutral. It succeeds in a few songs but they are so few and far between that the overall experience is underwhelming. I recommend you check out the recommendations everything else is up to you if you're curious.

On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
