Jon Hassell - Dream Theory in Malaya: Fourth World Volume Two
80

Im gonna need to listen to more Tribal Ambient albums cause this shit is so fucking captivating and mesmerizing. It's like I am on an entirely different planet at times. What a magical, hypnotizing meditative atmosphere that's just dripping from this outstandingly unique LP.

While the first three tracks are pretty underwhelming like I find a lot of ambient tracks, the rest of the album that does catch me are not gonna let me go. I'm absolutely intrigued over the unique atmosphere that I am ... read more

Bill Evans - You Must Believe in Spring

Soft Jazz is a pleasant listen and is excellent music to have on the background while working. Whenever I tune in to see if I enjoy it as anything more than background music I fail to see anything of substance. It's nice music but nothing that'll stick in my mind or has any reason to have multiple listens.

Serú Girán - Peperina

Decent Album overall with a good amount of variety within. Not much stood out to me personally but a few tracks did perk my ears more than usual. The closer is my favorite of the bunch and highly recommend you check that one out at least.

Recs:
- Esperando Nacer
- Cinema Verité
- Lo Que Dice La Lluvia

The Sound - From the Lions Mouth

Just like their last effort I got absolutely nothing out of this experience. Nothing interesting happens.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Architecture & Morality
60

Hit or miss synthpop. Didn't need to be an hour long. Has some pretty damn good stuff in there tho.

Pretty damn good stuff:
- She's Leaving
- Souvenir
- Sealand
- Sacred Heart
- Navigation

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Technodelic

While not as great and innovative as their last effort I still enjoyed a good amount of this album. Everything is very nicely done especially my favorite parts.

Recs:
-Seoul Music
- Gradated Grey
- Key
- Epilogue

This Heat - Deceit

Can 2.0 with their final effort puts out an ok experimental album with some nice highlights. I like weird music like this, but I felt that they didn't go far enough to put out a more fulfilling experience. What's here is fine but I expected a bit more to it.

Highlights:
- Shrinkwrap
- Radio Prague
- Makeshift Swahili
- Hi Baku Shyo ( Suffer Bomb Disease)

Dead Kennedys - In God We Trust, Inc.

These guys would go absolutely feral over the current American political climate.

My favorite trouble makers do it again! If more punk had this much energy passion and strong messages then I would be more kind to the genre. These guys are such strong rebels and aren't afraid to say what's on their mind. The songs go a million miles a second and the lea singer keeps up with the insane tempo easily cause he's just as crazy. Highly recommend you check out this EP it's front to back insanity so ... read more

高橋幸宏 [Yukihiro Takahashi] - Neuromantic

I liked "Connection" otherwise it was solid synthpop that didn't impress.

Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna
55

Other than the classic "Edge of Seventeen" I got nothing out of this.

Agent Orange - Living in Darkness

Take a screenshot cause this is the rare time up to this point that I have a positive view of a punk album. You know why I like this album? Becat it's actually fun to listen to for once! These guys and Dead Kennedys get it. They know how to have fun whilst effectively getting their points across. I had a lot of fun with this album and it helps that it resembles more of rock than what I recognize as punk. Highly recommend you check this out!

Prince - Controversy

Way better than his last effort and utilizes synths in a more innovative way for the Time. Bonus points for that Hendrix-esqe solo on "Ronnie, talk to Russia". Even so with it being pretty damn impressive for 1981, in 2023 half of these songs didn't really stick the landing despite generally being well made songs. I swear I am not being unnecessarily harsh on Prince it's just an honest opinion of how I viewed the overall experience of his album. It's an overall decent album but ... read more

Electric Light Orchestra - Time

Oh to be back in the 1980s again...

A solid effort from ELO utilizing the latest synthetic trends and inserting it into their very established sound. The album falters a bit on the b-side but never crashes down to being mediocre. Overall it's remains amongst their best work with some great tracks that has stood strong against the passage of time.

Highlights:
- Twilight
- Yours Truly 2095
- The Way Life's Meant to be
- Another Heart Breaks
- 21st Century Man

The Cure - Faith
55

So it's another slow atmospheric post punk album that's a drag to listen to ala Joy Division. I will admit that for some reason I liked " The Drowning Man" but otherwise I was pretty bored with this.

Oingo Boingo - Only a Lad
50

I have said before that I enjoy goofy 80's music but every example so far has not been anything fun to listen to. More annoying than anything. I am going to change my tune if this trend keeps up.

GhostMinus - Digital Life

Thank you @GhostMingus for inviting me to check out your latest album!

The link she provides was a Bandcamp one and I am not knowledgeable about that site so I thought that there was a paywall behind listening to it because of the big blue button telling me to view purchasing options. I am getting a bit tight on my money so I was going to wait until the next paycheck arrives before I buy the album cause I genuinely want to support the users here at aoty y'all are super talented/skilled and ... read more

Loving - If I Am Only My Thoughts
50

I totally understand why @jaycrackers thinks that this is Beatles-esqe it does have a similar sound to it.

This Album wasn't anything all that interesting and I only checked it out cause Spotify kept recommending me it. Half of their recommendations aren't even that good so I don't know why I even bother sometimes. It's a decent indie album but nothing new or intriguing.

Vapora - Winter Fog
60

It only been like a couple weeks but we already got another album out from Vapora. It's a winter themed ambient album that's directed towards audiences that deal with a bunch of stress and this is to attempt to alleviate that mental situation a bit. Vapora themself told me that they suffer from anxiety and it's therapeutic to listen to and create this kind of music.

Now if you have been following my reviews for a while you would know that Ambient albums are not usually my cup of tea at ... read more

The Sea and Cake - Oui

After listening to @johnb3g new single I asked if they could give me a recommendation that wasn't anything obvious or very critically acclaimed since I already plan on listening to those albums in time for my long term project. So they recommended this album saying it has "Some Bossa Nova and Post Rock influence with some Midwest emo mixed within as well" and I can't say that I am not intrigued. This album certainly fits the bill for an underrated gem with only thirty other ratings, ... read more

Dua Lipa - Houdini

Dua lipa the sexy woman with all of the sass returns with a single! It's been a minute and I have heard that she's flirting with Psychedelic music and is working with Tame Impala himself for her new album. I am excited to see if this single is a part of that and how she handles this unique genre.

Yeah I can definitely hear the Impala influence on this song. The production is straight up his alley. I strangely also get the vibes of future nostalgia and it's accessible 80's/disco nostalgia. ... read more

"@frogofprog of course, all the songs listed in the review are great including the all time classic in War Pigs. I just think as an album experience as a whole it could be a bit better."

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."

"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
