Taylor Swift - 1989 (Taylor’s Version) [Deluxe]

OH there's Usher! I've been looking for him! Great to have Biggy Smalls be a part of this album!

Taylor Swift - 1989 (Taylor's Version)

Ah Taylor Swift. The biggest name around the world right now according to my ignorant western view. She had a big tour that saved local economies and stimulated the national economy. She has had numerous hits throughout the years, but the ones from what might be her most successful album to date "1989" back in 2014 was an entirely different beast. Her music was fucking EVERYWHERE. Music videos were hitting a billion views back when that was still super impressive for YouTube. She was ... read more

What a unique and interesting vaporwave album. Can't say I have heard anything quite like the unhinged vibes this album provides. I love it! I need more of it! This was honestly fucking amazing at points and that fucking closer is pure insanity in the best way! Fantastic stuff, highly recommended!

山根麻以 [Mai Yamane] - たそがれ [Tasogare]

A pretty ok city pop album with a strong finish. Like honestly those last three tracks are on another level than the rest! So I recommend you check out the last part of the LP at least, but if you want to give the whole thing a try I won't promise you will enjoy a lot of it.

The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms

These nerds are cooler than you will ever be.

SO close to perfection! If only "Fa-Ce La" held up to the amazing quality of the rest of the album! Those fucking guitars, that fucking Bass, and you can't forget about them drums!

What an amazing and thoroughly enjoyable album full of memorable moments and highlights! HIGHLY recommend you check this out!

David Bowie - Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)

It took a few tracks to warm up to it, but man this album is phenomenal! Once I got to "Ashes to Ashes" there was zero misses! This album might be right there with Bowie's very best in Ziggy Stardust, especially if on further listenings I learn to enjoy the first three tracks.

At this point Bowie's decade long reign at the top of critical acclaim is nearing it end for now, and what an album to go out on!

This album is surprisingly catchy, got some STRONG writing, Bowie's rizz is ... read more

Kate Bush - Never for Ever

Now this is more of what I expect from Kate Bush!

This is such and ethereal magical fantastical album full of awe and wonders! Her voice and the production are absolutely amazing! I am struck almost speechless at points of this album. I was pretty blown away! So this was what all of the hype was about!

It ain't perfect since some songs didn't hit as hard as I would have liked, but FUCK THE ONES THAT DO HIT????? Whew, I can't form the words, I just can't. This album is astonishing and you ... read more

What's up with many acclaimed albums of 1980 and having black and white covers? Like seriously like every other album cover is black and white it seems.

I was looking forward to listening to a full Prince LP for the first time, and this was a disappointment unfortunately. It was a pretty flat and uninteresting listen with horny lyrics. I have heard PLENTY of music with that kind of description and was never impressed with them. This is no exception and being such a iconic artist of the 80's ... read more

XTC - Black Sea

Only liked the closer "The Somnambulist" otherwise it was really whatever post punk background music.

Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel

The first album I have heard in the 80's that actually FEELS like it was made for the 80s, and holy shit is it phenomenal! I didn't expect an album to be both so reserved yet so explosive in how it evokes all kinds of emotions out of the listener! This album is honestly insanely good! I loved almost everything it had to offer and I am stupid exited for what this iconic decade has in store over the horizon!

Gothic rock huh? Well it is a bit spooky and ominous I guess.

This album is a stand out amongst it contemporaries at the time, I haven't heard anything quite like this up to this point. I liked parts of it but most of the album doesn't bring much interest.

Recs:
- Double Dare
- In the Flat Field
- Small Talk Stinks

Grace Jones - Warm Leatherette

I love the gentle synths mixed with the disco elements to make an excellent segue between the late seventies into the iconic synths that would dominate the decade to come. This is such a pleasant and easy listen. Everything just works and Gracie's voice is so good! A very enjoyable album that I highly recommend you check out!

Yeah no.

I'm seeing people praising this albums grotesque and messiness as if that's supposed to be a good thing. Yeah yeah you're probably going to tell me " well that's the point ya moron" well I am sorry for not liking what my ears are hearing. Sorry for having an opinion geez.

Yeah I didn't enjoy this album at all and unless you vibe with the grotesque and messiness of it I would say that you shouldn't press on cause it doesn't get better.

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Uprising

This might be Marley's strongest effort yet.

At first when listening to his early work I didn't get the hype over him in the slightest. I was hearing the same song over and over again in my perception. It wasn't until I listened to "Kaya" that it clicked for me. Ever since then I have seen his music and messages in a new light. And what a bright light it is.

This album is the third one in a row that I have been pleasantly impressed with what I was offered, and I am getting the ... read more

Eh. It's ok disco but nothing essential. I enjoyed "Tenderness" and " I'm Coming Out" but otherwise it wasn't anything interesting.

The Sound - Jeopardy

In one ear, out the other.

Rush - Permanent Waves
40

Tedious and meandering with no destination in mind.

This was a bit rough to get through. Like this sounds a bit outdated for 1980 and the singers voice is a bit too whiney for me to be unbothered by it. This wasn't the case with previous albums so IDK the voice bugs me this time. The instrumental is interesting in theory until you realize they are not really going anywhere with them. The momentum of the album never changes much so you get real comfortable and familiar with the pace of things. ... read more

The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card

FINALLY a fucking Prog Rock album! It's been too long! After all of that endless punk I thought I would never get my true love back!

This album is like right on the edge of being great but there's too much songs that I wasn't feeling for me to give it the full 80. BUT what I did enjoy out of this album was such a breath of fresh air that I am just beaming in joy! Thank you Alan Parsons and gang for this (almost) great album, I am very grateful!

An ok offering from Bruce. Its not his best work, and the album is a bit too bloated for me to stay engaged with it. There's some gems in here but they aren't enough to have the hour and a half runtime be worth it.

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain

"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
