Harold Budd - Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror
80

Welp. Hell has frozen over. I actually enjoyed a Brian Eno album. Never thought I would ever see the day.

There is just enough individual elements in the haunting atmosphere to keep me engaged and that fucking piano has me seduced. Combine them together and you got a damn good ambient album. Just yesterday I enjoyed a traditional punk album for the first time now Brian Eno is having his redemption arc??? Things are developing too fast before I know it I'm going to adore screeching ... read more

Wipers - Is This Real?
80

Well that was surprisingly fun.

I never expected to actually have fun with a punk album. This genre like Jazz has been real hard for me to warm up to but I think I have found the gateway album that's more accessible for people new to the genre before they deep dive into the rabbit hole.

This album has a lot of great tracks, and is pretty upbeat compared to it's contemporaries. I enjoyed myself with this one a lot more than I was expecting. So if you're kinda like me and think Punk is a ... read more

The Pop Group - For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder?
65

The Pop Group are as unhinged as ever I see.

When punk just goes crazy insane I am almost entranced by the madness. Enough of the slow sad boi slog that some other post punk albums have. Give me crazy or give me death!

Recs:
- How much longer
- Justice
- There are no Spectators
- Rob a Bank

This Heat - Health and Efficiency
50

Health and Efficiency is pretty whatever post punk. Graphic/ Varispeed is an atmospheric drone that bored me to sleepyness. All in all it's pretty meh tbh.

Bad Computer - Chasing Clouds
70

Man this throws me back to the summer of 2020 this shit was on repeat during lockdowns. Its still a lot of fun to mindlessly jam to but if you start critically looking at this it's a pretty generic EDM track. Still fun tho.

Steely Dan - Gaucho
95

It makes me feel like Joe Cool 😎

Man I read an exerpt of the Wikipedia page that's provided on the album page in the YouTube Music app, and man it certainly sounds like this album was painstakingly made for several hundred hours using multitudes of instruments and dozens of other musicians helping out. It deserved that place as a contender for Album of the year and it's a strong one for me personally as well!

This album is so fucking chill, sharp, sexy and even beautiful at times. God ... read more

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Kaleidoscope

Decent stuff. I make the comparison since I listened to them recently, but this is B-52 but a lot more mellow and it's actually good at points. So while it's not the greatest thing in the world I appreciate it for being a fine palette cleanser after that bad album.

Recs:

Terry Riley - Shri Camel

Trippy keyboard and not much else for over 40 minutes.

松原みき [Miki Matsubara] - Who Are You?
55

An underwhelming city pop album that does sooth the soul a bit but does little to Garner intrigue. It was an ok listen but other than the song " Howa Howa Shuwa Shuwa" I don't hear anything that got my attention.

The B-52's - Wild Planet
35

Cringe

I don't like that female voice like at all. And everything is way too cheesy even for me, a guy who loves 80's chessiness. I just feel a bit embarrassed listening to this crap.

Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth
50

Well that was boring.

X - Los Angeles
50

Insert hilarious joke about them predicting the downfall of the bird app.

Yeah this album did nothing for me. Parts of it reminds me of Blondie so that's neat I guess.

Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz
80

Ozzy>Black Sabbath or something IDK

This is the Ozz man's first output after he left the band that invented metal. And it's honestly great! Got some all time classics and some bangers throughout the album! I'm sure every single metalhead has already listened to this classic record but in the case that you haven't I recommend you don't miss out on this one!

Headbangers:
- I Don't Know
- Crazy Train
- Suicide Solution
- Mr. Crowley
- Steal Away (The Night)

Stevie Wonder - Hotter Than July
60

After the impossible heights of " Songs in the key of Life" I knew that this wasn't going to reach them. I did expect something more than what I was offered tho. This is my perception but this was a whole lot less soulful then Stevie's previous work unfortunately. I did like a few songs that had some of the magic that I expected out of this. So this wasn't a complete disappointment.

Recommendations:

The Cure - Seventeen Seconds

Pretty damn good. There's parts to this album that I really enjoyed and others that didn't have much effects. A great introduction to a band that I see the potential to be something quite special if they refined some things here and there. Recommend you check this out.

Highlights:
- Secrets
- In your House
- A Forest

高中正義 [Masayoshi Takanaka] - T-WAVE
100

My 1980 AOTY it's going to take a lot to top the sheer pleasure I had listening to this city pop Masterpiece. Masayoshi is just showing off at this point. I adored everything this album had to offer and will have a permanent spot on my summer playlist.

Another great album that doesn't get much attention. So if you are a fan of Masayoshi Takanaka PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE listen to this I GUARANTEE you will not regret it. This might be his very best work ever. Everything is perfect in this album ... read more

The Soft Boys - Underwater Moonlight

Meh, this didn't do anything for me.

Motörhead - Ace of Spades
45

Every song bleeds into each other they sound so similar. I have now listened to three Motorhead albums and only one tried to be fun to jam to. This is such a slog to get through. Jailbait tho...

ABBA - Super Trouper
90

What a thoroughly enjoyable album that's just so much fun to listen and dance to. Singing along to it comes with multiple listens. It's joyfulness is so contagious. The production, mixing, the singing and lyrics are all on point. I loved this album so much! Highly recommend you check this out!

Pretty good. Nice improvement from the previous album I heard from them. There's nothing extraordinary about this album that screams must hear but the highlights of the album are still certainly impactful while remaining graceful. Overall this is a solid album with some intriguing highlights.

On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
