"Chronic Town" sells itself nowadays as the first proper release by the historied rock band, this EP basically invented alternative rock as we know it (and we feel fine). A really great debut EP. Leans way further into an oblique post-punk sound than any of their stuff to follow, while still cementing themselves as unquestionable post-punk giants
One of the best eps of all time and has some essential songs by the band on here and its clear that from the beginning R.E.M were going to be something special
Maybe not the most mind blowing thing on the planet, but this was a promising start to the band's career. It shows off the classic jangle pop and (what was known as) college rock sound of the early 80's. The band sounds very tight on all these tracks. Particularly Bill Berry's drumming.
