Nem? - Magic Mirror!

Man, I can tell you had fun with this one. Thanks @Nem3215 for sharing your short EP with good choices for sampling, solid beats that are self produced. Which I'll give ya props for automatically being better than 80% of rappers as you have said on your Bandcamp page. Your rapping is tolerable to solid overall. And I enjoyed myself well enough. The one track that truly caught my attention was the last one from the excellent sample to your passionate rapping that as you mentioned have ... read more

Happy New Year! 🎊 🎉🎈🙌

And @Marshall4Real is back at it with a little single! This isn't the one that was on Instagram that you pointed my way. I didn't see it on Spotify, BUT I did see this. I am always happy to listen to your new music. So let's see what this "glow again" is all about...

I am used to your droning ambience, so I definitely wasn't expecting a sick beat to kick things off. Only to then slide in the usual noise a number of seconds into ... read more

Brand X - Unorthodox Behaviour

Thanks @frogofprog for recommending me this! (5/5)

How about some slick sexy fusion to finish off this year on? Or to start 2025 depending on your time zone. But yeah I don't want say much here other than I hope you check out the recs and enjoy yourself with them. Like good music should, it speaks for itself.

And a final shout out to the frog to finish this year as well as the usual friendly faces I often see hearting my humble reviews. It's always a joy to see your names! I hope ... read more

Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief

Thanks @frogofprog for recommending me this! (4/5)

I'm sorry, but I'm not much of a fan of this kind of folk rock. It just doesn't do much for me. Maybe on a listen further down the line this will connect with me better. For now, I found it to be a middling listen.

Queen - Queen II
100

Thanks @frogofprog for recommending me this! (3/5)

Man, early Queen tho. What a fucking band. Just a glammy theatric treat for the ears that's unapologetically over the top with fantastic instrumentation and amazing vocals! I like how the tracks flow into each other emphasizing that this should be listened as a whole experience for the album connoisseurs (aka NERDS!) Its just one enjoyable track after the next that keeps the vibe flowing. Every track has their individual spice and as a ... read more

Gentle Giant - In a Glass House

Thanks @frogofprog for recommending me this! (2/5)

It's been so long since I listened to Gentle Giant. It was likely before I even decided to make this account so I hardly know or remember what to expect from these chaps. It says progressive Rock and that sounds about right so let's get our pretentious pant on and see what they got to offer.

Well they certainly love throwing a lot at your ears buts having it all sound complimentary like a good prog record should. The deal is that ... read more

Gong - You

Thanks @frogofprog for recommending me this! ( 1/5)

I swear the flavor of psychedelic nonsense in the first couple of short tracks was the weirdcore of the 1970s. It's charming as well as off putting. It's unhinged, yet well done. Then the experience transitions into a classic meditative jazz funk rock space journey through the cosmos that's just a pleasure for the imagination even over fifty years after this released. Just quality listening that really takes my attention once ... read more

YOOOOO!!!!! I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS TO RULE SO FUCKING HARD!!!

I feel like I would be jamming to this kind of shit in the club ten years from now when this kind of shit hits the mainstream! @bon you and your friends did a phenomenal job with this! it's created from having fun and holy shit is it just plain fun to listen to! This shit is Internet core in the best way possible from the distorted vocals to the production that had no reason to be as good as it is. I thoroughly enjoyed myself ... read more

Mothware - someday your iris will be the horizon

Thanks @Mothware for sharing to me your three track single. You told me to not leave any thoughts unsaid, so I'm not going to filter anything out from ya. I have really enjoyed your full release "Please Be Gentle" earlier this year (edit: Actually it's from November 2023... it's been over a year already?!) though the remake a bit later failed to have the same effects for me, at least on the initial listen.

Here, as you claim you are mixing the elements from the ... read more

Leventear - (Shine) Lost Soul

Thanks @PlugnstyleKalo for sharing your stand-alone side project single to me!

I like what you are going for here though I agree with the others including yourself that it does need some polishing. It has a lot of interesting ideas that don't quite mesh or flow well together. Your cadence and flows are interesting but could be utilized in a smoother way to bring out the desired effects from the emotions you are evoking. Beyond the slight jankiness of it all mostly due to your admitted ... read more

The Dead Land - Bastion

Thanks @montythegreat for sharing your new single to me!

I liked that you kept things stripped back to focus on your singing. I tried to follow along to what you were singing with the lack of lyrics but kinda struggled. That's mainly on me though maybe a bit more clarity on your articulation never hurts. Your voice is pretty distinct and I like your cadence and delivery. You did well here. The supporting soft guitar, drums and harmonica adds a melancholic folk charm to the atmosphere then ... read more

Nas - Illmatic

Don't crucify me. I just simply didn't connect with it. Probably need to make a list some day of super acclaimed releases that did little to nothing to my irrelevant ass. You can throw the tomatoes and boo over there if I ever get to it.

Jeff Buckley - Grace

Gorgeous Vocals, Gorgeous lyrics, Gorgeous Instrumentals.
It's just Gorgeous plain and simple!

Recs:

- Lover, You Should've Come Over ( These two iconic songs back to back??? I almost died!)
- Corpus Christi Carol
- Eternal Life
- Dream Brother
- Forget Her

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

Ridiculously good!

Other than that opener that didn't do it for me, it's a wild rush front to back that doesn't relent for even a second! Utterly addicted to the perfect buildups all over this unforgettable album! Holy shit that was amazing!

Portishead - Dummy
80

It doesn't all hit but damn does it hit.

Recs:
- Mysterons
- Strangers
- It Could Be Sweet
- Wandering Star
- It's a Fire
- Roads
- Glory Box

The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die
90

Raw, brash, brutal honest storytelling with a distinct easy to follow voice with some dope ass beats, sampling, and general production backing the mad lad up. It's the prime hip hop era and this young talent with their smooth flow has shown the world up. His smooth confidence and style wins over millions. His attitude contagious. Loaded with a Glock it's B.I.G. A legend of the genre is born and ready to die.

The release is infamous and lives up to it's buildup and hype. Could ... read more

Chico Science & Nação Zumbi - Da Lama Ao Caos

A pretty dang good Brazilian funk rock Alternative metal what have you. Its good music and that's all that matters. Most impressed by the instrumental and production with solid vocals.

Recs:
- Samba Makossa
- Da Lama so Caos
- Salustiano Song
- Antene-Se
- Risoflora
- Lixo do Mangue
- Coco Dub (Afrociberdelia)

Organized Konfusion - Stress: The Extinction Agenda

Once they had me hooked I knew that I was dinner. Fantastic album when it's great. (And it's a great time overall) Too bad that a good chunk of the release didn't do much for me.

Recs:
- Intro
- Black Sunday
- Drop Bombs
- Bring it On
- Why
- Let's Organize (feat. O.C & Q-Tip)
- Stray Bullet
- Maintain

Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep
65

A decent early example of horror core that does seem on the nose but has a few tracks that still does the job well.

Recs:
- Blood Brothers
- 1-800 Suicide
- Mommy, What's a Gravedigga?
- Here Comes the Gravediggaz
- Deathtrap
- Rest in Peace (outro)

Soundgarden - Superunknown
70

A solid release from Soundgarden with a mix of great tunes to at least for me filler to slightly questionable inclusions. (Looking at you "Half"!) If it wasn't as bloated it could easily be a great grunge project for me.

Recs:
- Superunknown
- Head Down
- Black Hole Sun
- Spoonman
- The Day I Tried to Live
- 4th of July
- Like Suicide

"@AidenBowe45 He reminds of Paul McCartney at points with how passionately he sings and the instrumental goes crazy. It's a fun album for sure!"
On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda

"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."
On Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
"@RSmithFan What I meant was that this was the first album that felt like it was made in the eighties. Don't know why I phrased it that way either."
On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
