Burial - Untrue

Burial is often perceived as perhaps the ideal musical embodiment of Hauntology (the very one Mark Fisher spoke of). Initially, he drew inspiration from the rhythms of UK Garage, pulsating at the heart of club life. But where others see a celebration, he hears its ghostly silhouette. This atmosphere is achieved through eerie sound effects and deliberate sound degradation, like a cassette that has undergone numerous re-recordings. Kanye West - BULLY

The album evokes a strange sense of déjà vu: as if it were created by feeding a neural network Kanye's entire discography and asking it to imitate his style. This is the only explanation for such a derivative product, which seems to be ripped from the artist's past works. They seemed to dissolve into the electronic texture of the album: instead of breaking it apart, they actually deepened the feeling of immersion into a slow, viscous instrumental flow, as if it had arrived as a message from ... read more

John Oswald - Plexure

Plunderphonics is a way of composing music in which the primary material consists of already existing recordings. And this does not refer only to familiar musical tracks. Fragments of radio broadcasts, news reports, television recordings, and any other sonic artifacts of mass culture can all be used. Instead of traditional composition, the piece is assembled like an audio collage, pulling fragments out of their usual context and placing them into a new one.

The sampling technique itself is by ... read more
