disc 1 - 93/100
yea this side is definitely better than the second. no bad songs but the interlude is... uh.. not good, at least it’s very short.
favs: ‘what’s beef’ ‘kick in the door’
worst: ‘b.i.g. (interlude)’
disc 2 - 84/100
the highs aren’t as high and playa hater is baddd. still very good but honestly wish he got rid of some of the songs on disc 1 and picked the best from disc 2, and just made one album.
favs: ‘notorious ... read more
this was by far the most disappointing album for me in 2020, mostly because donny womack was so good. at least no photos is good 😞
a trap classic. i mean really was there a better year for trap music? it felt like everyone was at the top of their game and just having fun. this specific record however, shows the diversity of drake. we all know future, he makes trap music. period. drake on the other hand, does everything! drake has succeeded in so many genres it’s truly amazing. i think metro boomin and southside definitely brought out the best of drake and future. i love how the last song is ‘30 for 30’ ... read more
ok, so my brother told me to listen to freddie gibbs around this time last year. i listened to his most popular albums: piñata and bandana. i didn’t like either! the beats and production just weren’t my type of sound. i’m not a big fan of madvillainy either probably for the same reason. so about a year later, i turn on ‘shadow of a doubt’. idek why i did, but i am very glad!! this album is great. songs like ‘forever and a day’ and ‘fucking ... read more
so, after listening to this album 10+ times over the course of this week, i have to say this is one of the better 2010s r&b albums. songs like ‘garden’ and ‘love galore’ are just... wow. it’s not spectacular all the way through, ‘drew barrymore’ is weak, isaiah rashads verse is skippable, which surprised me bc i really like isaiah rashad! overall tho, this is very very catchy and the production is sensational.
i don’t even know how i came across this album , but i’m glad i did! the genres are all over the place and i love it. the features are well placed and certainly talented. i gotta say too, i love the length of it. 30 mins. some albums are just super long and full of what should have been throwaway tracks, but not this one. each track was mastered and placed well!
-1 point for the skits of biggie having sex, other than that it’s a masterpiece
It captures the lifestyle/aesthetic of america in the 50s and 60s really well.
House of Balloons represents modern r&b really well. Love the dark theme
the quality of the actual music is horrible and has no meaning at all but the beats are fire and so is his flow.
