It has so much variety in it's 14 tracks it's insane, songs are so different but at the same time I can't help but listen to the whole album when I just want to listen to one song, love to listen to it while walking or on a really long drive, it does it's concept exceptionally well, none of the songs feel like filler and I think you do yourself a disservice if you skip any of them.
I think Metal Church is really underapreciated as an early thrash pioneer, David Wayne has some great vocal-range in this album, riffs are solid, great solos, and drumming is really fucking good.
This is a guilty pleasure of mine. It has some god-awful production, especially with that fucking snare sound and James's background vocals mixing, no solos in an album as raw as this one just makes it feel undercooked, and the huge length of each of the songs makes it feel so repetitive you want to blow your brains out, genuinely made me have a migraine the first listen. It has some good tracks (Until It Sleeps is one of my favorite Metallica songs), but man is it boring. A lot of the tracks feel repetitive, and the album as a whole feels more tame and pop-y compared to Metallica's earlier discography, which could work but some of the songs are a snoozefest. The long 79 minute length does not help it at all.
