The Chats - Get Fucked

the chats go hardcore punk

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Your Funeral... My Trial

some songs are good and some are fucking stupid

Take as needed for the pain shows the dirty and gritty side of addiction, but dopesick shows a different side of addiction that members of the band were going through. This side of eyehategod shows the true horror of what depression and addiction can do to a person. These songs sound like they're one note away from someone overdosing or slitting their wrists. The album takes more of a swampy black sabbath approach with some sections of hardcore punk

mgk - mainstream sellout
50

Although a couple of songs are a step above tickets to my downfall in terms of riffs and songwriting and even one song comes very close to crossover thrash as well. However, most of the album is pretty bland in comparison. The album art is awful and the lyrical content is repetitive. Overall, I think MGK is slowly finding his new sound, but having trouble letting go of his older style and isn't taking his music as seriously. I feel like if he took his time for the next album and surrounded ... read more

Swans - Cop
90

One of the heaviest albums of 1984. The brutality of this project is like no other. This is a must listen to anybody who likes early industrial, sludge, and noise rock.

Heroin - Heroin
78

Pure emotional hardcore. I can see where midwestern emo gets its sound

This is a must listen to anybody wanting to get into sludge or any type of heavy music. I can feel the doom and the absolute flithy misery within these songs. It's like tony Iommi drowned in a bathtub of whiskey while overdosing on heroin. This album takes blues to the next level.

Celtic Frost - Into the Pandemonium
80

Not my favorite Celtic frost album, but it is a clearly innovative album with the expansion of their sound by including outside influences, such as industrial, goth, new wave, and classical.

Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
90

Acid bath will always be a one of a kind band, in which their sound feels impossible to replicate. The band mixes the clean vocals of Alice in chains, the sludgey depressive doom of the New Orleans scene, and in some songs harken back to hardcore punk and death metal.

Eyehategod - A History of Nomadic Behavior
75

On first listen, I really didn't connect with this album at all, but upon giving it a second listen and seeing them on tour for this album I really started to connect to the lyrics and album a lot more. Many critics of this album say that Eyehategod has lost its edge, which I do agree with to an extent, since the death of joey and the band becoming sober and more mature as musicians, it's expected that the album would explore different version of Eyehategod.

a lot closer to the sludgy hardcore punk of black flag and the Melvins and less of Eyehategod's southern rock and blues inspired sound. there are many parts on this album where it goes from slow sludge riffs to outbursts of hardcore punk's speed. The album's production is extremely rough but for recording budget the band had at the time, this album sounds good.

Undeath - Lesions of a Different Kind

Solid album that captures an old school death metal sound. I hear a lot of cannibal corpse inspired riffs and mortician like vocals.

Codeine - Frigid Stars LP [Reissue]
88

Amazing album. Probably one of the best slow core albums of all time.

Toxic Holocaust - Primal Future: 2019
83

Great retro thrash album. This a move away from the blackened thrash style to a more "mainstream" thrash style.

Acid Mammoth - Caravan
78

I see a lot of stoner and sabbath influence in this album. The band tries to stick to the classic doom/stoner sound instead of trying to explore and create their own sound.

NR

An amazing album to start off their career. Peter Steele manages to fuse together many different types of forms of music together, such as industrial, hardcore punk, thrash, goth/new wave, and most importantly doom metal to create an angry and heavy album. The songs on slow deep and hard typically go through many parts, which could go from funeral dirge complemented by synths and organs to create a dream-like atmosphere to a thrash part with screaming and yelling in them. Overall, this is a ... read more
