Jack White - Boarding House Reach
80

What really shines on this album is Jack White's heavily experimental sounds and combinations of vocal distortions that he introduces alongside with the beautiful guitar playing throughout the tracks. Overall a really enjoyable record that subverts your expectations and sounds different than your usual rock album that you'd expect from someone like Jack White.

Mac Miller - Faces
90

Easily Mac's greatest project and of the most ambitious mixtapes of all time. The heavy jazz and old school influences and samples in this thing work so much in Mac's advantage and it helps give this mixtape a plethora of emotions that can be felt throughout the track list. From light hearted braggadocio and humorous storytelling in "friends" to a pure existential crisis in "funeral", which is part of a fascinating trilogy of a man's life explored in three parts: birth, ... read more

Ab-Soul - Herbert
70

Overall i liked this album, but sometimes some tracks can feel like a boring, long drag and the mixing often sounds iffy to my ears. If Ab-Soul cut a few filler tracks off this album and focused on improving the production aspect of this album, my experience would be less of a snooze fest.

Pablo's inconsistent, like REALLY inconsistent, and that's why I love it.

I feel like my brain is telling me to logically give this album a much more lower score, and that reasoning might have some merit on paper, with it telling me that songs sometimes just don't flow with each other or the album just feels like its glued together, barely holding any coherency track to track, feeling more like a chaotic "collection" of songs rather an actual album, but what if that's exactly why ... read more

Lil Ugly Mane - VOLCANIC BIRD ENEMY AND THE VOICED CONCERN
100

This album is the the most unique, beautiful presentation of how far can one experiment with sounds and music.

I'll admit that when I first heard the name "Lil Ugly Mane" after seeing his name pop up from a theneedledrop review of this record, I thought his music is going to sound exactly like his name: trap, hip hop, gangsta' rap and yada yada, you know the rest. When I decided to this give a go for fun, it didn't sound like those things. In fact, it didn't sound like ANY genre at ... read more

Logic - Under Pressure
90

Logic's debut album is honestly his best project and in my opinion one of the better hip hop albums to come out of the decade. It just kinda bums me out to see the sheer love and talent that is put into it get dismissed and overshadowed by his newer, much blander and corny albums. While there's obviously some flaws of the lyrical aspects of the album, this album's production, at least for me, outweighs the flaws of Logic's lyricism by a LARGE margin and i can just tell that logic put genuine ... read more

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
100

Before hearing their music, all I knew about NIN was that they're some sort of gritty, dark rock band that experimented heavily with ugly and unorthodox noises, but besides these pre-notions, that's all I thought about them. Didn't really give them a shot since I thought they're like any other rock band. I couldn't have been more wrong.

The first time I heard their music was on pure accident, and it was when I just got Quake, which I'm sure some people also might have discovered them through ... read more

Joey Bada$$ - 1999
90

It's just insane how Joey made one of the greatest debut mixtapes of all time when he was only 17. This project's lyricism and the beats that he chose go hand in hand perfectly. This is Joey's best work by a long shot and a modern classic.

Madvillain - Madvillainy
100

This is MF DOOM's magnus opus. No, scratch that, this is a BENCHMARK in hip hop and one of the most important albums of all time.

It's not an easy thing for album to not only define a whole genre AND influence the sheer amount of rappers that we hear today in the underground scene as Madvillainy did. Madlib's jaw dropping and raw sample chopped heavy production goes hand in hand of the genius of DOOM's snappy lyricism that keeps rhyming and rhyming nonstop and tells funny jokes after jokes and ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - untitled unmastered.
90

For a compilation album that's full of TPAB leftovers, this thing's fucking amazing and I'd rank it pretty high in Kendrick's discography.

P.S, untitled 05 is the greatest Kendrick song of all time.

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
100

This album's consistently throwing emotionally impactful and amazingly produced tracks at you back to back with no misses. I can't even count the amount times I replayed "I See You" and "I Love You, I Hate You" and the amount of times i was simply flabbergasted by how amazing each track flows into each other. Not only there's immense replay value on this record, it's a conceptually beautiful album that tells us alot about who simbi is and the constant conflicting thoughts ... read more
