This is Lil Yachty's magnum opus and easily one of the strongest and surprising releases of the year so far.
I'll admit, i really did not expect what i was going to listen to when i dived in this and i didn't hear the leaks that came out so this was a completely new experience for me. From what i could tell, it was Lil Yachty, he's known for the usual uninteresting trap shtick that he does, yadayada, but the AI generated album art intrigued me and was enough for me to get into this, and little ... read more
"What's the difference between a posthumous album and a life insurance policy?"
When i thought Weezer couldn't make their albums sound REMOTELY like Pinkerton or Blue Album anymore, this album's release proved me absolutely fucking wrong.
This record is their third best album and it's a nearly flawless experience that experiments alot with harsh guitar openings like in "Do You Wanna Get High?" and abrasive noises akin to their older raw sounds on their sophomore. Speaking of Pinkerton, a funny thing to note is that the easter eggs and nods they include here in ... read more
A jazz rap masterpiece.
This album, combined with Q tip's absolutely masterful lyricism and its' phenomenal and raw bass samples is an absolute classic. Everything that can be said about this album has already been said before a million times, so all i'm gonna tell you is that if you somehow haven't listened to this yet, LISTEN TO IT NOW! WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE????
Carti's impact on the music industry and its' consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
Holy fuck.
This is my first time hearing Murder Capital's work and by god it is an amazing, emotionally impactful and nearly flawless record. The instrumentation on this thing can range from haunting to outright beautiful and incredibly hardhitting. Aspects of the record sound obviously sound like nods to other bands and albums, like I can't be only one that thinks "A Thousand Lives" sounds exactly like Radiohead's "15 steps"? This whole record just feels incredibly ... read more
An amazing, incredibly consistent project by Oddisee. The production on this record feels really pleasant and relaxing to my ears and the lyricism is really clean and witty. Though I feel like it does kinda starts to fall off in the second half, overall, it's an incredible listen and a great start to 2023.
This thing's the definition of underwhelming. I can't help but feel like this is more of a compilation of instrumental leftovers with little to no musical variety than a cohesive album. Don't get me wrong, they sound nice, but this album's also missing a key integral aspect of a Mac Demarco album, that being him actually singing in it.
This is possibly the greatest emo album, if not one of the best rock albums that i have ever heard in my life. Simply nothing will ever replicate the experience i had when i heard this masterpiece for the first time. It's an album so special that i know the songs all by heart.
I'll admit that albums like this sometimes require a certain angsty, teenager mood to be fully enjoyed, and that was when i first heard this album, and i think that's why i have a fond memory of this thing. Before ... read more
A flawless time capsule of the 2000s.
People often rank Graduation at the bottom of the college trilogy and if i had to guess, it'd be probably the inclusion of songs like "Barry Bonds" and "Drunk and Hot Girls", which might seem understandable at first listen, but to me, there's absolutely nothing wrong with these songs and their absurdity adds to the overall amazing nostalgia fueled trip that this whole record is.
The production on this album is incredibly heartwarming ... read more
Cudi's phenomenal vocals and the jaw dropping production on this record are the highlights for me. While it's certainly a really tightly produced and amazing album, i feel like it's too small of a listening experience for me to fully enjoy what it's offering. I just wish it was longer and experimented more with the duo's chemistry throughout the album.
Despite the large amount of filler in this record, i admire how experimental it is and unorthodox the instruments and sounds feel throughout the whole experience. It can feel pretty boring at times, but the highs in this album really make listening to this album worthwhile, like the opening track itself, which is probably Rocky's most eccentric and loudest piece of work and certainly one of his best.
This record is incredibly gritty and the drums and sampling throughout the tracks sound so fucking ancient and raw. The absolutely incredible production and simple chopped loops on this album are the centerpiece that glues everything together, from Westside Gunn's iconic punchy lyricism and ad libs (DRRRRRR POW POW POW) to the amazing features on this thing. Just an enjoyable, aggressive listen overall.
This thing is REALLY experimental, overall enjoyable and James Blake didn't pull any punches on some of the absolutely wild vocal effects that are scattered throughout the record. Though sometimes what he's trying to say is barely hearable or sometimes this album sounds outright awkward and uncanny.
It's nice but nothing's crazy here that grabs my immediate attention. The samples on here are for sure the highlights and the center of attention, but the alchemist doesn't go out of his comfort zone in this record to do anything groundbreaking. Overall just an alright record.
