Loud, abrasive and direct in their writing. ABM is one of the most interesting rap groups that debuted within the past 10 years and their sound can only go up from here. Fans of (on the surface) similar acts beware – this is leagues above the sanitized wannabe punk sound you'll find in a more traditional experimental hip hop album in how much of a mark it will leave on you in its short 30 minute runtime. This album holds no hostages and is so uncompromising and blunt stylistically, ... read more
I do not hate it, but at the same time I think its appeal is largely lost on me as an abstract piece of hip hop meant to embed Earl's depression onto the listener. Not through any major fault of its own but because Solace from 2015 captures every emotion this album tries to evoke in a way that feels far more concise. Comparing the two, Solace feels closer to an emotional punch to the gut whereas SRS feels like a bunch of demo songs or cool ideas/beats that never really feel concrete enough to ... read more
Underrated as hell even if sometimes inconsistent and misrepresentative of G.O.O.D. Music as a whole, has some amazing cuts and writing beyond just the Big Three singles off the album.
When push comes to shove, very few can or will ever catch up to Genesis Owusu when it comes to being a creative genius who uses allegories as abstract as the ones you can find on Smiling With No Teeth to describe anything from slavery to depression. This album is almost therapeutic, almost every song has Owusu emancipating himself from toxic relationships, friendships, racism, slavery and many other subjects. If you like Gorillaz's varied and often times zany sound/vibe or Danny Brown's witty ... read more
In preparation for this review, I listened to WTT, KSG and V1 in succession and came to an obvious conclusion by the time I was done. Compared to how grand Watch The Throne was and how glossy Kids See Ghosts was, Vultures 1 just kinda feels like Cope both musically and lyrically. It is not a *bad* album by any means with phenomenal songs like Burn and Carnival, but even with an album like WTT that was shrouded in glamorous, fancy flex raps, it still had some passionate, vulnerable moments of ... read more

Has a lot of incredibly beautiful songs and moments that can only make you imagine how in love Mac Miller was when he made this album. However, there are less than interesting songs that feel kind of bland in comparison that drag this album down. That being said, it's still pretty good and a fulfilling listen in spite of its roadbumps.

Jazz rock so clean and smoothe you almost forget there was a glaring error with production the whole time throughout that made the two members of Steely Dan dislike this album. Their standards are just that high on this masterpiece of an album.
I like AMHAC more than LP! I said it! This album has some of my favorite songs from him like JFMIAT and Free The Frail, and while still a bit inconsistent, its way less inconsistent than its older brother Veteran with (idc if i get cooked for this go jpeg yourself a mafia) higher highs than LP. Being short and less abrasive than Vereran helps so much as well, it was a relatively easy listen but still kept a little bit of that bite that Veteran had with way less filler.
Arguably the better of his first two albums, The Cool has a really, well, cool narrative with Michael Young History and interlocks it with some of his best hit songs and dopest rhymes. You don't get songs like Dumb It Down nowadays it's so fucking cool and impressive.
Criminally underrated yet brutally crushing nevertheless. There has never been a project that so succintly yet so poetically captures feelings of dread, suicidal thoughts and depression. Despite what first seems like ambivalence to his situation in his voice, his pain becomes harder and harder to mask as this project continues, resulting in the crushing fourth act/final verse of this project where he spills some of his deepest thoughts and lines over minimalist production. I'm grateful to see ... read more
This album is hard to listen to when you can hear the sheer amount of pain in his voice on some of these songs. You can tell he desperately just wished to be happy and live a peaceful life and yet even so could not attain for himself what he has provided for me and countless others with this therapeutic posthumous masterpiece. I don't feel like getting too indepth with every song on this album but I'll just say that Good News might just be one of the best songs ever made with how everything ... read more
It's rare to have an album as long as Faces keep a consistently high quality through its entire runtime, but Mac Miller managed to make it work on top of having some truly beautiful highs on here like Colors & Shapes and Grand Finale.
Some pretty good songs like Japan and Lemmy but I can't take his occasionally succint sociopolitical stances seriously when they're interlaced with incredibly weak sounding production and some really god awful bars. Also this mixtape has NO business being as long as it is
Once upon a time there was an EP. It was so bad everyone (including itself as jpeg has almost entirely wiped it off the internet) died. The end.
as weird of an album as youre going to get from anyone ever and i fucking love it. truly the album of all time
As a roach myself, I can't help but feel represented when Owusu passionately sings and raps about how he's a roach. Just like me fr fr top 3 of 2023
Here's a joke for you, what do you get when you cross a man with some of the smoothest flows and rapping abilities in the scene at the time with two of the best producers in their primes? You get this short-but-sweet love letter to Chicago with some of the best production of the 00's and some of the best rap flows of any album ever. The ending monologue, while long, encapsulates the albums themes perfectly. It is also yellow, and for that factor alone I'm giving it a perfect score.
