Each song is given a glossy sheen, one that accentuates not only the stronger pop hooks, but also the precise technical skill of the professional musicians drafted to play the solos.

The songs Becker and Fagen came up with are the usual mix of the funny, cynical, and cryptic, but here and there are moments of what seems to be actual sweetness.

If you enjoy laid-back pop rock, jazz fusion, or even progressive rock, I can’t recommend Katy Lied enough.

Those first three songs keep me going in life. Bad Sneakers is chorus galore. Like it is fucking incredible. Always find myself replaying that honorable flow and grand escapade sound. A bit of a misstep? To pull from Gerard Way, it lacks greatness. Even Bad Sneakers is a bit of a head-scratching single, the melodies just don't come together for me. That said, there's plenty to like — I'm a big fan of every other song, especially Your Gold Teeth II. Love to here these guys take a groove on a walk.
