Kendrick Lamar at his most fun. The songs where he lets loose on here are an absolute blast. Simultaneously, the more laid-back cuts are some of the smoothest he's put out. Respect to him for not putting any of the beef songs on the album, making it more about the west coast. Another stellar product from a fantastic artist.
Favorite Song: tv off or reincarnated
An incredibly consistent addition to Tyler's growing discography. Feels almost like a blend of his last three, being a nice conclusion to the victory lap he had from call me if you get lost. It is also some of his most personal work to date, going over many sensitive topics that aren't normally brought up in rap songs. I feel like this one will just grow with time.
Favorite Song: Thought I Was Dead
Such a fun, lively, and creative project. There's a lot of personality here that made me drawn to it pretty immediately, as it held my attention throughout the album with the varied production of snappy beats and laid-back jams. Dope album.
Favorite Song: DENIAL IS A RIVER
Catching up on albums I listened to but didn't rate last year.
Nice chill mellow project from Tommy Richman, really enjoyed the songs he was blowing up off of and checked out some from his back catalog. I like what he tried to do on this, but I feel some of the ideas fall flat and could've been brought to a more fleshed out product. Still an enjoyable listen for being his first real album. Looking forward to his next outing.
Favorite Song: seems like time moves forever
Yep, this is my first 0 for sure on AOTY. I can understand this was made with the intention of being bad, so I almost don't even want to give it the validation. Not a single enjoyable moment (except for the brad donation line, that one made me chuckle), the tpab parody poem lead up to Mortal Meistro Man made my jaw drop. This was genuinely not music.
Interesting EDM album. Makes me do the yoinkity schploinkity while flying down the interstate. I'll have to check out more IDM and Deconstructed Club after this for sure.
Favorite Song: Generate Utopia
Noise, but really well arranged and composed and performed noise. I can't help but sit in awe of what I'm hearing. I'd love a full length LP from these guys.
Favorite Song: Resisting Resistance
Dope bars and soulful beats. A solid boom bap album. Tha God Fahim kind of reminds me a lot of Rome Streetz with lower energy though, I would love to see a collab between him and Cookin Soul.
Favorite Song: Safe Hands
Some nice garage rock, did not know prior to listening that this guy was the front man for the White Stripes. Big mixtape-esque feel, and hearing how the marketing went that makes sense. Some head thrashing bangers front to back and a super enjoyable listen.
Favorite Song: Old Scratch Blues
An album full of nice production and vocal performances. jev shows again that he is worth paying attention to. I feel like this is a slight step up from his last venture, but he still sounds like he's in the borrowing from his contemporaries phase of his career. Once he carves his own lane and sound he could make something truly great, but for now this will work as another good entry into his discography.
Favorite Song: ALICE.
Decent pack of songs from Conway and Ransom, supplemented by some V Don beats. A couple songs on here that are just Ransom without Conway. Nothing crazy here, but it's a good selection of songs. If anything I think Ransom is doing better than Conway on this, it feels like he showed up to drop bars and dipped. This just doesn't feel super special at all, it's alright, and probably only something you would like if you are a Griselda fan.
Favorite Song: Higher Killer
While being a good and consistent 3 songs, this should honestly be longer. A victory lap ep for Hit-Boy and The Alchemist after their past few years of amazing work they have been putting out. Just dropping some bars on their own songs. It's cool, don't get me wrong The Alchemist is my favorite producer, but it feels like it's just getting started by the time the last song plays. Nothing spectacular on this either, just three decent songs you'll like if you were a fan of ... read more
This is "comedy rap" done well. Sounding like a mixture between The Pharcyde and Beastie Boys, these guys are having an absolute blast all over this project. The beats on here hit really hard (which are produced by Joey Valence? I love it when rappers produce for themselves. It feels like they can understand their own production the best), and are perfect for their delivery on the tracks.
Fantastic and goofy one liners. It's not trying to be anything that it's not, I love ... read more
Wow. Have never listened to atmospheric death metal. I've been recently dipping my toes into some more experimental metal works (That recent Knocked Loose record and Gojira) and have been finding more and more I like. The vocal delivery on the tracks was sludgy and harrowing. Just like a slow moving creep of absolute doom. The drummer is absolutely crazy, and the guitars strike some interesting melodies with the singer. Some of the songs on here started to blend a bit for me, but this was ... read more
This is my first Vampire Weekend album, and I am very pleasantly suprised. The indie and more orchestral production choices give it a really unique sound above other indie rock records. Front to back there is a lot to love from this. The heavy reverb on the lead singers vocals for most of the songs almost give the album a "performing in a big empty concert venue" vibes. Definitely a pinnacle indie rock record of this year, and would totally recommend it to anyone.

TOP 200 ALBUMS BY USER SCORE CRAWL (no soundtracks or non-English albums) #22 of 155
Definitely an interesting album front to back. Blending 80s synth elements with rock and dance, it creates a unique sound with all the ideas it brings to the table. Almost sounds haunting with the vocal delivery. I think some of the songs on this don't hold up very well though, still being good songs they just feel dated. Whole thing front to back though is really great.
Favorite Song: Enjoy the Silence
Some of the most generic drill beats with the same joke on every song. This got repetitive and boring after the second track. At least there was one decent song on here, that was a breath of fresh air.
Favorite Song: OPPY DAY
This was a sweet album. Very country, makes me feel like I'm chilling down by the river with some beers and friends. Just a fun collection of very real-feel country. Gives me feelings of nostalgia. Definitely worth the listen if you are a country fan.
Favorite Song: She's Leaving You
Yo where did this come from? Dark and dreary, dusty drums and harrowing piano instrumentals mixed with soul cuts. The atmosphere this puts off is unreal. All the performances have a lot of heart to them and the outro/intro samples keep a consistent theme going within the project. Short, consistent, and to the point. This rarely drops in quality throughout its 26 minute run time.
Favorite Song: Junkrat
A decent outing from Rome Streetz. The production is very interesting, although I don't think it fits as much as its tryna go for. Alright bars, although I've heard better rapping from Mr. Streetz. This guy is still a menace on the mic, always excited to see the next thing he drops.
