JPEGMAFIA delivered exactly what I wanted from an album out of him. Gritty and industrial, with a ton of songs that make me want to start punching holes in walls. With some also great cuts from a more introspective and stripped back production. I love the use of the guitars, and more rock focused production. This really feels like his best project so far.
Favorite Song: either on or off the drugs
Kendrick Lamar at his most fun. The songs where he lets loose on here are an absolute blast. Simultaneously, the more laid-back cuts are some of the smoothest he's put out. Respect to him for not putting any of the beef songs on the album, making it more about the west coast. Another stellar product from a fantastic artist.
Favorite Song: tv off or reincarnated
An incredibly consistent addition to Tyler's growing discography. Feels almost like a blend of his last three, being a nice conclusion to the victory lap he had from call me if you get lost. It is also some of his most personal work to date, going over many sensitive topics that aren't normally brought up in rap songs. I feel like this one will just grow with time.
Favorite Song: Thought I Was Dead
Such a fun, lively, and creative project. There's a lot of personality here that made me drawn to it pretty immediately, as it held my attention throughout the album with the varied production of snappy beats and laid-back jams. Dope album.
Favorite Song: DENIAL IS A RIVER
Catching up on albums I listened to but didn't rate last year.
Nice chill mellow project from Tommy Richman, really enjoyed the songs he was blowing up off of and checked out some from his back catalog. I like what he tried to do on this, but I feel some of the ideas fall flat and could've been brought to a more fleshed out product. Still an enjoyable listen for being his first real album. Looking forward to his next outing.
Favorite Song: seems like time moves forever
Yep, this is my first 0 for sure on AOTY. I can understand this was made with the intention of being bad, so I almost don't even want to give it the validation. Not a single enjoyable moment (except for the brad donation line, that one made me chuckle), the tpab parody poem lead up to Mortal Meistro Man made my jaw drop. This was genuinely not music.
